The atmosphere at Orient!

Just on the travel coach on the way back and I'm still shaking from the adrenaline from when we scored the second goal!

The atmosphere was electric today, so loud and was so so happy to be a saint today, even at 2-0 down!

When the second goal went in and our fans ran on the pitch it was like we'd won the F.A cup. Seeing the Orient fans heads in their hands and the chavs in the corner finally shutting up was the best part of the day. If only the couple more chances we'd had had fallen a little better and we might have snuck this game.

The transformation of connolly and antonio coming on and changing from 4-3-2-1 to 4-4-2 saved the game for us. Once connolly is fully fit, if ever, we are going to walk this league. Orient didn't stand a chance after they came off the bench!!! Another winning streak coming on I feel...

..Rickie Lambert, Southampton's goal machine!!!!

saints fans superb, it was a great day out just got back. But why did the home fans start leaving on 85min they missed 9 mins (4 extra)

have to agree,I saw plenty of saints fans leave at half time,7 then when we went 2 down, they will claim we pay our money we can leave when we want

Went a little quiet after we went 2-0 down, but once we got the second - We didnt stop. I firmly believe the noise helped the players get the 2nd.

I think we were all a bit shell-shocked that that they got their second goal.

However, in the last 10 mins i thought we were awesome - it was like a cup-tie and the fans must have helped the team push forward.

Proud to be a Saint and really glad I went to the game....

Thought the Saints fans were absolute rubbish for most of the game today.

I didn't think it was rubbish, but it certainly has been better at other games this season. It's always the same though, when we take a big following and have a whole stand were too spread out for everyone to catch on to the songs. Sometimes though you need something on the pitch to get the fans going and the goal did that from then on it was very good. Lambert song sounded awesome!!

Agreed, first half it was like a libary. Atmopshere only picked up when we scored and felt we could get something from the game.

Indeed, about right. Very little, even at the beginning of the 2nd half when we were just 1 down. Disappointing really.

Quiet in the first half but only to be expected. We conceded early and the Orient fans didn't exactly challenge us for noise levels.

Most of the Saints fans were probably taking a breather - we'd been singing for 30 mins before the game began - probably you missed that bit otherwise you might have taken a different point of veiw.

I can't speak for where you were but it was plenty loud in my part of the stand. I was hoarse at half time.

I imagine you were in the right hand side. When I was looking round I was gutted I got given turnstile D, as all the atmosphere seemed to be coming from there to be honest.

Still pretty decent where I was though.

WERE THE RIIIGHT SIDE, WERE THE RIIIIGHT SIDE, WERE THE RIGHT SIDE OVER HERE!!

Where I was sat (right side) we sung the whole game, even at 2-0 down, hence why I started the thread about the atmosphere.

Can't speak for the rest of the stand as we were loud but was great support down there. Think the roof would have blown off if we'd got a 3rd!!

We were alright, but not as good as we could have been considering there was 3,000+ there. But then that's always the way when we take a big crowd away, beyond 1,500-2,000 the atmosphere tends to get diluted - not knocking it, it's just the way it is.

Orient were surprisingly good I thought, wasn't expecting much from them but they did at least do a fair amount of singing (albeit not particularly loud), which is more than you can say for a lot of home supports.

I was there and the atmosphere was fantastic. Much more than the players deserved at times but in the end both players and fans were fantastic.

Thught it was a good atmosphere, not fantastic. There were lots songds going on but it was rare that the whole stand were singing same thing/ The only thing that ruined it for is the idiots who ran on the pitch.

Given the numbers the atmosphere we created was pretty poor. After our goal went in it got better though. I'm not trying to make myself out to be an uber fan because i wasn't really singing much either until we scored - the game had "one of those days" written all over it.

Great stuff

when i was stood there yesterday i thought the support was great, i know the cyber fans will complain, but it was good.

problem for me was my mind kept going back to the two promotion games and at one point, according to my youngest son i was singing different words to a song

Went in Gate A, atmosphere was good all game in that section

We are the riiight side

By the way what are the words to the Lambert song, it seems i'm not the only one that can never decipher them all going by discussions with others around us.

Some thicko's were just singing the "na na na na na na na na" verse to the song round and round.

The first verse is,

He stands just over 6ft3, Rickie, Rickie,

He'll take us to the Premier League, Rickie, Rickie,

He gets the ball the takes the ****,

He wears the shirt of Matt Le Tiss,

RICKIE LAMBERT, SOUTHAMPTON'S GOAL MACHINE

Then the "na na na" verse comes in and after that it goes back to ^ and so on.

You mean the...

Na Na Na Na-Na Na-Na Na, Na-Na, Na-Na,

Na Na Na Na Na Na-Na Na, Na-Na, Na-Na,

Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na,

Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na,

RICKIE LAMBERT, SOUTHAMPTON'S GOAL MACHINE

I thought it was quite inventive to be fair especially the Na-Na bit.

Agreed.

Shame we couldn't keep the noise going to help us get the first though. ATM it seems like the fans give up hope before the players do.

I suppose that's a sign of the team's new-found confidence.

Long may it last.

I thought it was a decent atmosphere, especially given there was very, very little in return from the Orient end.

Not too sure why so many idiots felt they had to storm the pitch on the equaliser though. I could maybe understand it if we'd got a winner, just. But to go so mental at a draw to Orient; small time.

Pre- match atmosphere at the pub

Well I did the 8 mile walk from Paddington in about the same time as the website suggested by Pancake (2 hours 8 mins), without busting a gut. I've never walked through the East End before. I couldn't believe how warm it was. I was sweating buckets as I approched the Balls Pond Road so stopped for a cold drink and was accosted by three 'ard as nails East End grey squirrels for my trouble. Saw the famous Hackney Empire and an original Banksie (the Tesco one) in Islington. On the approach to Leyton, a grand view of the Olympic constructions.

Got to Leyton High Road and boxed clever by buying my underground ticket before the game. Tried to find the shop where I bought my customised Suzuki GT 250 back in 1975 but it seemed to have gone.

Thoroughly enjoyed the match and not much to add to the other posters. We should have won handsomely but there will be days like this, hopefully not too many. All I would say about the formation discussion is that we should have been 3-1 up at half-time before we changed, but it does seem to make a difference, though.

Thought Saints fans were great and singing was non-stop but fragmented into disparate pockets. We finished singing a song, only to hear another section half way through a completely different one, lol. Fun on the tube going back as you could hear singing from other carriages and various versions of 'your not getting on' every time we stopped, because all the other lines were closed and everyone was trying to get on the Central line.

Upon my return to Paddington, I ate a large pasty sat at the feet of Isambard Kingdom Brunel before catching the train home.

Up for t'Cup on Friday.

Keep the Faith
