St Will Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 Ssssshhh..! We're talking about the losing MENTALITY though - nothing to do with the results. Even if we lose tonight or against Brighton, it's pretty obvious that we don't have the losing mentality that we clearly had last season.
Mr X Posted 11 November, 2009 Author Share Posted 11 November, 2009 I absolutely think we have! I think I agree, as soon as we went behind last season that was it we basically rolled over and died

Evil Monkey Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 Last night I dreampt that we lost 1-0 at home to Blackpool. Pardew out.
Saint_clark Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 I have to say that when we went 1-0 down against MK Dons, I knew we would still win it. BUT...I still find it hard to remove that feeling in the pit of my stomach before every game telling me not to expect too much.

Thedelldays Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 The fans had it or too long calling people who expect better and want better week in week out.. Calling them unrealistic. Guess what. Pardew expects professionalism week in week out and he expects then to win as he even stated, that is the thing they are paid to do

Whitey Grandad Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 Could be 3rd Round of the FA Cup? Yes, that did occur to me after I had hit 'submit'. :-( So... That'll be next year then!

Chez Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 Are we finally starting to lose the losing mentality that we've had for so long?....... hmmm best not go there we have a winning mentality. Going a goal (or even two) down has not stopped the players believing they will win. I think the fans genuinely think the same.

Thats what you get being a football fan. !! still we have all to gain and little to lose this season, which is not a bad feeling.
ozzmeister Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 Should the question also be extended to the fans. Are we beggining to shed the un-nerving feeling that if we are only a goal up on 90 mins we could still quite easily concede?

Lazlo78 Posted 12 November, 2009 Share Posted 12 November, 2009 Are we finally starting to lose the losing mentality that we've had for so long?....... hmmm best not go there Maybe it seems like a fairly obvious comment coming on the back of such an unbeaten streak, but I think it is becoming obvious that the mentality has changed. The team looks like they are expecting a win from every game and confidence must be sky high! We need to make sure that the mentality is so stong that we can cope with a run of bad results. I mean, a few personal errors, a few bad calls from a ref, a few screamers from the opposition's strikers and you can quickly hit som bad results even though there is no greater underlying problems with the team. If they can weather a run of bad results, there is no limit to what this team can do
John Smith Posted 12 November, 2009 Share Posted 12 November, 2009 Are we finally starting to lose the losing mentality that we've had for so long?....... hmmm best not go there I said it at the time and I'll say it again, Jaidi will be our most important signing of this season. He dominates in stature, in the air and on the ground, BUT, most importantly, he breeds absolute confidence around him in defence. Lambert is starting to do what he does best, scoring goals, Lallana is relishing his chance to take players on without absolute fear of losing a goal if he loses the ball, this is mostly down to having Harding behind him. Hammond is awesome in the middle and will only get better. Spiderman is becoming better and better in that defensive midfield role, a quiet assassin, sniffing out the centre loose passes. And, although not all of you will agree, I believe this new found confidence in going forward, stems from being solid at the back. Along with KD staying to help us back up when he could've left for the CCC, Jaidi is the man in front of him who makes KD and almost everyone else look good. And that's because they are good, when playing without 'fear'. And that is what Jaidi brings. Awesome defender.
