Ludwig Posted 5 August, 2008 Posted 5 August, 2008 Right, this probably isn't reliable and won't come to fruition now anyway. But I've been told by someone who spoke to Michael Chopra that Kenwyne all but had a deal to sign for Chelsea sewn up before he crocked himself vs England. Also said Chopra is going to move, isn't happy with Keane not playing him etc. etc. But, do we have a sell-on clause on KJ? Obviously such a move won't happen now and I know we got Stern + £6M which was a great deal at the time, but I'd hope we got a sell on clause, we could be in for a couple of million at some point, if he continues to progress and the injury (back earliest March apparently ) doesn't ruin him.
tombletomble Posted 5 August, 2008 Posted 5 August, 2008 I would have thought that as we got a fairly good deal for him that we won't be inline for anything else. £6m + SJ was quite a bit
Andy_Porter Posted 5 August, 2008 Posted 5 August, 2008 That's a shame, couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke.
NickG Posted 5 August, 2008 Posted 5 August, 2008 sorry to sound pedantic but Stern John was not in exchange for Jones, inevitably part of discussions but actually a separate deal on a free.

I didn't realise that. There may be a sell on clause then. I don't remember anything being said at the time though
Crab Lungs Posted 5 August, 2008 Posted 5 August, 2008 KJ was one of the best players I've seen in a Saints shirt in recent years. Left badly, very badly even, but I've no doubt he'll join one of the bigger clubs in the near future.

Remember Redknapp critisicing him for being tired saying 19 year olds dont get tired, when he was on his way out of SMS and was throwing all the young players under the bus.

Interestingly just read Luggys autobiography and it was him who decided to switch Jones from a CB to a striker when taking him on loan to Sheffield Wednesday, apparently he recognised that he would do better up there when he saw him in the youth team at Saints. When Redknapp saw how well he was doing he recalled him.
