Weston Super Saint Posted 17 September, 2008 Share Posted 17 September, 2008 exactly should we pay attention to the league tables? Six games gone and things are looking pretty ugly Should we wait 'till Christmas or Easter before we start believing things aren't going to get a lot better?? Mr X Posted 17 September, 2008 Share Posted 17 September, 2008 We should be very worried the first five games have given us a clear idea of what to expect, but should give it another month before we start calling for heads to roll
Ponty Posted 17 September, 2008 Share Posted 17 September, 2008 I'd give it another month before completely ****ting myself. That would give us a good average of the perceived better and worse teams, home and away.
ottery st mary Posted 17 September, 2008 Share Posted 17 September, 2008 Some on here would still like to give it to xmas of 2012 but are not able to reply because there in the box with lowey sorting a few things out. Weston Super Saint Posted 17 September, 2008 Author Share Posted 17 September, 2008 Christmas is usually a fair indication. Or not..... Dec 31 last year we were 7 places above the relegation zone West Brom 25 47 Watford 25 44 Bristol Cty 25 44 Stoke 25 42 Charlton 25 40 Plymouth 25 38 Crystal Pal 25 37 Hull 25 37 Ipswich 25 36 Wolves 25 36 Burnley 25 34 Cardiff 25 33 Barnsley 25 33 Southampton 25 33 Coventry 24 32 Sheff Utd 21 31 Blackpool 25 30 Leicester 25 27 QPR 25 27 Norwich 25 27 S****horpe 25 26 Sheff Wed 24 25 Preston 25 24 Colchester 25
dubai_phil Posted 17 September, 2008 Share Posted 17 September, 2008 TBH I think the tables are ok for another month or so What would worry me is the loan window closing. We seem to know what the problems are on the pitch as well as off the pitch. But it is clear that unless the on pitch problems with the defence are sorted the off pitch becomes irrelevant. So for me it is about bringing in full back(s) and PDQ I wonder if the Ian Harte opportunity isn't one we'll miss. Centuries ago in good old Salisbury & District Sunday League 3 I was a right sided midfielder with inches of pace, but I kept getting put at full back and hated it. I wonder if the same is not true of Drew (except he's on the left I know!)

Six games gone and things are looking pretty ugly Should we wait 'till Christmas or Easter before we start believing things aren't going to get a lot better?? When I consider the answers to my "Give it time" post/thread, the answer according to many is simple: There is no alternative, so we will die doing what we are doing. (Edit: Post #8 in this thread is a great example of that defeatism) Believe it or not, stating that you see the need for change only invites the inevitable "what is your solution" response on here from the Ru**rt apologists. Saint in Paradise Posted 18 September, 2008 Share Posted 18 September, 2008 I think that I can answer for Scooby and a couple of others, we must wait until Mr Wonderfull Lowe says us peasants can look and not a moment before ! :D
alpine_saint Posted 18 September, 2008 Share Posted 18 September, 2008 anyway, what is it we're suggesting we do should things get worse? boo players? drop players? sack a manager? if people are doing their best and it isn't good enough i imagine we're just going to have to get on with it. no money sucks doesn't it, but even with money there's no guarantee you'd see improvement, just a lot more upheaval that would be as likely to finish us off as help us out. i know it's not an enjoyable concept, but many will have to get used to supporting their team no matter what, because we do have a determined young team and an honest manager, who i still believe is doing and will do a good job with what he's got. i'd love us to do well, but you can't just turn up and cheer for the good times. right now i'm just looking forward to getting work over with and getting to the barnsley game. If you are saying nothing can be done, and the fan base cannot expect improvement, then you have no right to demand anybody fork out what is a lot of money and turn up to the games knowing nothing is going to improve. If I wanted to give money to charity, there are much more deserving causes.
Thedelldays Posted 18 September, 2008 Share Posted 18 September, 2008 oh, are you talking about the first 5 senior games for most of our players? We can only get better imo. Its just good to see players who want to play for saints. Anything is better than last season and we wont go down. can we...despite getting worse in the process..???? (Edit: Post #8 in this thread is a great example of that defeatism) Believe it or not, stating that you see the need for change only invites the inevitable "what is your solution" response on here from the Ru**rt apologists. So, when you state that you see the need for change, do you expect all other posters to nod sagely and agree, with no consideration of what that change should be? It's no more than reasonable to ask that question, just as it's perfectly fair to expect a supporter of the current set-up to defend their position. This is a forum for debate, after all. Oh, and I'm not an apologist for Lowe or anybody else, just in case you're wondering.

If we were top of the table we'd be paying attention to it now and saying how wonderful it was, so I don't see why we shouldn't pay attention to it now just because it's not what we want to see. I think we can see from the Pre Season and now the League Games we are going to struggle. I have always expected us to be in the bottom quarter of the table. I would expect the team to improve during the season but we will be flirting with relegation the whole time.
