Professor Posted 15 August, 2010 Share Posted 15 August, 2010 ..... the mourning for his passing to disadvantage the team? Maybe NC and AP are still active in the transfer market, but don't feel any announcements can be made this week. That would be entirely reasonable. We've had the reassurance about the security of Markus' vision for the club and that the funding is secure. At the same time, fresh in the mind is AP's statement that he sees a need to strengthen the squad. While we may be on pause, the game goes on for the other clubs in League 1 and we won't get any consideration from them beyond MK Don's agreement to postponing this weekend's game. But perhaps we aren't on pause at all, and no news doesn't mean nothing is happening.
Dave Benson Phillips Posted 15 August, 2010 Share Posted 15 August, 2010 I suspect that the club is in a period of probate at the moment, as such transfers cannot be made. I would however imagine it will be speeded through to allow us to make some purchases.
Colinjb Posted 15 August, 2010 Share Posted 15 August, 2010 I would expect that thing are working proffessionally behind the scenes while a respectful silence is maintained on the surface. More then a week would be too much.
Nexstar Posted 15 August, 2010 Share Posted 15 August, 2010 It wouldn't surprise me if we have signed a player or two (possibly before the Bournemouth game), but have kept quiet out of respect for Markus. Perhaps an announcement Tuesday or Wednesday?

There is nothing to stop the Chief Executive/Managing Director from carrying on as before. The same happens with any company when a shareholder dies, which happens quite often. Depends whether they would be relying on a sub from Markus to purchase a player. ( many people on here seem to think he was bankrolling us ) The may well have offered straight cash for a player or two, with Markus footing the bill, so have to wait for probate. doddisalegend Posted 15 August, 2010 Share Posted 15 August, 2010 I think the truth is we blew the summer transfer budget back last christmas in a bid to speed up the plan and get promotion a year early. It looks more and more likely to me that the squad we have is the squad we're going to get this season bar a few loans. It's a pretty good squad bar injuries and bans so lets hope Morgan behaves himself this year...................
Barry the Badger Posted 15 August, 2010 Share Posted 15 August, 2010 Depends whether they would be relying on a sub from Markus to purchase a player. ( many people on here seem to think he was bankrolling us ) A reasonable thought, but I very much doubt that Markus would've been saying "go and negotiate with a player, get it all sorted, and I will transfer the money at the last minute". Even if he was bankrolling the transfers I can't see him just transferring millions of pounds on an ad-hoc basis.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 15 August, 2010 Share Posted 15 August, 2010 I suspect there's been pause in proceedings, quite rightly to mourn Markus' passing, plus to addeess all the legalities but, hopefully, at some point early this week, there will be some further news about what's happening to the ownership of the club and how business is to proceed "as normal". I also suspect MK Dons would be rather unhappy if, on the one hand, we ask them to postpone the fixture out of respect to Markus and then, prior to or in the immediate aftermath of, when the game was scheduled to take place, we go and announce a couple of signings... We can't play as we're in mourning but we can strengthen the squad wouldn't be the best way to make friends!
BadgerBadger Posted 15 August, 2010 Share Posted 15 August, 2010 It's sensible to assume that when the club was purchased and a plan put in a place a proposed amount of money was put up to fund that plan and will be used according to needs. I can't really imagine they get money ad hoc for players as and when. NC will most certainly have an amount that he'll use to get us where we need to be. For that reason the uncertainty in the short term is not an issue

As the rearranged game against MK Dons is in September after the window shuts, then that would mean no more transfers. So I don't think that is a concern. So I don't think that is a concern. We could sign players between now and 31 Aug who wouldn't have been able to play on Saturday. By the same token so could MKD. BTW the reassurance you assume, is just standard corporate spin (trust me I know - not SFC INTK, but other experience).

Not sure what will happen with signings but it would have been totally inappropriate for a club to be in mourning and unable to play a game, but the chairman - who was particularly close to Markus - be working hard and announcing that we will be stronger when we do play MK. alpine_saint Posted 16 August, 2010 Share Posted 16 August, 2010 ..... the mourning for his passing to disadvantage the team? No, he wouldnt, and I reckon he would be less-than-chuffed if that were the case Maybe NC and AP are still active in the transfer market, but don't feel any announcements can be made this week. That would be entirely reasonable. Why ? It would send a clear message to the fans "Business as usual, we carry on with MLs plans" and it would set a lot of minds at ease, probably amongst the team too We've had the reassurance about the security of Markus' vision for the club and that the funding is secure. IF we have been beavering away at the transfer market in secret as some would have us believe, I would have expected more results by now. I am not convinced. Dont really know where you are going with this Prof. Are you saying that the management need to crack on ?

Deppo Posted 16 August, 2010 Share Posted 16 August, 2010 I believe it would be appropriate to sign each post that poses a question, such as 'What lager should be served in the concorse' and 'Who should we play at left back?' with the acronym for 'What Would Marcus Want?' What do you guys think of this idea? Or, more importantly, What Would Marcus Want?' WWMW WIFM

jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 16 August, 2010 Share Posted 16 August, 2010 i think the holding company has a substantial income source to support the 5 year plan although I would be surprised if all the money is tied up in the account. I would have thought the main bank account would have enough money to cover the budget for this season. The rest of the income could be tied up in swiss savings accounts (tax purposes) or maybe money comes from the Mali Group when budget is determined for the coming season.
