Listening to the Game

saintsplayer (on the os)

It's better than the threads on here make it sound. Remember, you only really hear about it when it goes wrong. It's how I always listen and I've missed very little commentary over the years. It started a couple of minutes late last week, but then you can just switch to the opposition commentary in seconds.

For the first time in a long time today I will neither be attending the game or be within radio solent catchment area. Is there anyway of listening to the game via commentary online.

Cheers

Simples - you won't

1) You will not listen to Solent on line once we kick off UNLESS you pay for Saintsplayer subscription.

2) OCCASSIONALLY an away team will not have restricted commentary and you can find their live stream site. Becomes less likely every week

3) Install Skype (or similar free VOIP) and find a friend who either i) lives in the 96.1 FM coverage area and get them to call you and place transistor radio close to their PC microphone so you can listen OR ii) Find a friend with Skype/VOIP with Saintsplayer who can run the commentary - much poorer quality

4) Search the likes of Iraqgoals.net (very unlikely)

5) Become a Hacker

That last one works quite well I'm told

Every week they find a new and different way to **** up what should be a simple-to-operate service.

It's just streaming a radio feed after all.

I hope everybody is emailing to complain, because we are paying money for a terrible service.

When they were this bad last season they had to offer everyone a free month extra.

That now looks like a mixed blessing :(

Reponse from SaintsPlayer... according to them, it's the clubs fault:

Hi Rob,

Thank you for your email.

The Perform Group are contracted to host the website by the FLi (Football League Interactive). Part of that contract is to provide streaming facilities for audio commentary. The club itself is responsible for selecting a broadcaster to provide that commentary. The broadcaster (usually a local radio station) is responsible for providing that commentary via a landline to the Perform Group so that it can be encoded and streamed.

In this case the radio station connected the incorrect match to the ISDN line, we will speak to the club to ensure that this does not occur again. We are working hard to have the problem corrected

Although we do our best to ensure that the commentaries are correct, we are totally in the hands of the radio station, over whom we have no sanction.

We do however apologise and hope that it is not too inconvenient.

Best regards

Looks like a generic reply, same answer was in my inbox almost as soon as I hit the send button.

I've forwarded it to the Main SFC email address. ****es me off as not everybody can get to the games and this is the only way of following SFC... not freaking Barnet/Chartlon or whoever else they decide to play!

I've also commented to officialsaints on twitter.

Officialsaints on twitter:

Sorry to those of you affected by Saints Player issues, needless to say we are absolutely livid with our hosts. Can only apologise

Saints Player should be back up and working now. Our website hosts plugged the wrong commentary feed into our site
