St_Tel49 Posted 24 October, 2010 Author Share Posted 24 October, 2010 4 points off second, major problems!! Quite true - but my concern is that even when we win we are not especially convincing and our chances to goals conversion rate is abysmal. We are getting most things right now - except the finishing. Some of that is due to Rickie's poor start but our long shooting yesterday was dreadful. If you are on-target and the goalie saves then good for him but if you are off target then you get nothing. The Kraken Posted 24 October, 2010 Share Posted 24 October, 2010 Brighton are the leaders of the league and do not have 1 player in that list. Although I agree that our shooting from range yesterday was pretty embarrassing.

moon monkey Posted 24 October, 2010 Share Posted 24 October, 2010 The problem with our scoring is simply pressure. The players are aware they must get promoted. Because they have missed quite a lot of opportunities it has effected them and every game when they go to shoot all they think about is 'what if i miss?' Once saints start getting wins regularly the confidence infront of goal will improve. At the moment I'm happy to dig out close shave wins.

Compare at the end of the season and then you might have a point. Last season we had about 5 points after 13 games (may not be exactly right), this season we have 18. Tony F Posted 24 October, 2010 Share Posted 24 October, 2010 Brighton are the leaders of the league and do not have 1 player in that list. It's certainly an interesting statistical anomoly - Brighton have scored 21 goals - whereas Peterborough, 6 points below them, have scored 33 and have two players listed (we've only scored 13 which does indeed tell it's own story). beatlesaint Posted 24 October, 2010 Share Posted 24 October, 2010 Although I agree that our shooting from range yesterday was pretty embarrassing. Morgan's shooting to be more precise. Has anyone seen the goal he scored for France the other week ? Was he stood on the goal line and the ball hit him or something ? To continually shoot over the bar by that margin shows poor technique IMHO.
sfc6mufc3 Posted 24 October, 2010 Share Posted 24 October, 2010 When you think back to the run of games we had when we never found the net then we have certainly moved on since then and apart from last week had seemed to have found our feet after a horrid start to the season (both on and off the pitch). 4 wins out of 6 and 2 potentially winable games to come and it's looks ok. I would like us to start winning by a couple of goals however to avoid a nervy finish - but musn't be greedy and things are better than they were. Professor Posted 24 October, 2010 Share Posted 24 October, 2010 4 points off second, major problems!! Misleading I'm afraid when there are 11 teams between us and 2nd place. If it was just one team that was 4 points above us it would be possible to overtake them by winning the next two games, as long as the other team did no more than draw their 2. But from 14th place, even if we get 9 points by winning the next three games we still won't even get to third because the teams above us can't all lose. If we do win the next three we will make good progress and could be in the playoff zone but we haven't won three consecutive games yet this season so we do still need to improve. Once we are winning regularly and sometimes by 3 or 4 goals, that will be the time to relax.
NickG Posted 24 October, 2010 Share Posted 24 October, 2010 of those 11 teams we have gained at least 2 points and up to 7 points on them in just the last 6 games - i.e. since Adkins has been leading us.

Smirking_Saint Posted 24 October, 2010 Share Posted 24 October, 2010 so our problem in a nutshell is that BWP doesn't play for us?? He has hit a purple patch, players do, last season Lambert scored bucket loads and this season he is not. Hell, even a techniqueless JBT had a decent season for us. Basically, some times average players do well. BWP has found his level, he was pretty poor for us, i never rated him. We need players to move on with. We are 4 points from 2nd place so hardly in dire conditions are we ?? Add to that he was a cretin, ran into blind alleys a lot and had a big offside ars£
doddisalegend Posted 25 October, 2010 Share Posted 25 October, 2010 so our problem in a nutshell is that BWP doesn't play for us?? Did you see his to goals on saturday? route one at its finest, long ball from keeper BWP out paces the last defender one shot goal. If we tried that some on here would have fits about hoofball. Luckily Lambert couldn't outpace a sloth so it's not a tactic we could use.
