Saintandy666 Posted 1 January, 2011 Share Posted 1 January, 2011 (edited) Davis - 6. Didn't have too much to do, but stopped a couple of shots well and had one great save where he tipped it over the top of the bar. He was there when we needed him. My only criticism would be that sometimes there doesn't seem to be perfect communication in the box ending up in a bit of a scuffle. Richardson - 8. Richardson is a strong player and really outmuscles the opposition when they try to compete with him. Seabourne - 7. Really solid. It's sad really he is quite anonymous as a player, but I guess that is the way it is with defenders sometimes. Fonte - 7 Solid and as great as ever. I really like Fonte. He never lets us down. Harding - 8 Good at getting forward and links up well with the other players. He really does work hard, but a criticism would be that he is sometimes caught out of position after pushing forward. Either way, he has earned his place in the team and he puts in ALOT of effort. Chamberlain - 7 Good game from him. Great assist. Schneiderlin - 8 Holds the midfield well. And I think him and Chaplow really compliment each other. When it was Hammond and Schneilderlin up front it could sometimes get a bit too defensive. Chaplow - 8 Great game from him and glad we have signed him as you can really see the impact he makes. We really missed him along with Fonte at Brentford. Lallana - 9 My man of the match. He has such fast feet and he is our star player. He will only get better as time goes on as well. We must keep him because he is the kind of player we can build our championship(touch wood) team around. Lambert - 6 Still not at his best, but a notable improvement from say a month ago. He is a great shot taker but he just doesn't have the speed, movement or flair of say Guly or Barnard. In danger of fading away and getting replaced if others keep up their form. It is nice to have a bit of competition though. Guly - 7 Well taken goals. Dickson - 6 He had some good link up play when he came on. Barnard - 6 Was working as hard as ever when he came on. Gobern - 6 I don't know what to say to be honest. Good run at the end. What I loved today was that we did not give up. We kept pushing and with our 27 shots, it could have easily been more than 4 goals. I was thinking today about who if we got promoted we would have to loose and I reckoned the only definite one would be Harding. David perhaps because of age, Jaidi likewise... NickG Posted 1 January, 2011 Share Posted 1 January, 2011 How many more could we have had? Cleared off goal line, good saves etc?? Davis - not tested, looked safe when had limited to do Richardson - 8 strong, involved a lot, same wayward passing, good player Fonte - 7 - caught out of position few times, not his best game Seabourne - 7 - solid, too much hoof Harding - 6 - gave away easy possession too much Chamberlain - 7- Very impressive at times. Skinned their left back on numerous occasions, then disappears for too long. -typical winger! Chaplow - 8 - lively, good movement and tackles Schneiderlin - 8.5 controlled midfield, so comfortable on the ball, set up much of our good play Lallana - 9 - can't be bettered for skill or work rate. Excellent. MOM Lambert - 7.5 getting sharper each game Guly - 8 - glides around, skillfull, tries something different, happy to keep shooting despite stick his misses were getting and came good. Hope we keep him Subs: Dickson - 6 - Think he missed the sitter at the end. Barnard - didn't do much apart from miss one score one! Gobern - looked quick, not on long
70's Mike Posted 1 January, 2011 Share Posted 1 January, 2011 Lallana pure class hope NC does not try and cash in on him when Newcastle put in the call
madruss Posted 1 January, 2011 Share Posted 1 January, 2011 What an absolutely fantastic one-sided game of football! I've never seen so many genuine goal scoring opportunities created in one match before, could easily have been double figures. Exeter didn't actually play too badly first half, some nice possession football with the occasional ball over the top, but our defence was more than up to the task. Seabourne in particular was excellent. Ratings: Davis - 7 Very little to do overall, though made a couple of excellent saves in the first half. Second half played some lovely passes out from the back, and even had time to wave to the Northam! Richardson - 8 Solid as a fookin rock, strong in the tackle, strong in the air, reads the game well and even put some quality crosses in to boot Seabourne - 9 Won pretty much everything in the air, and reacted very quickly to make a clearance after Davis saved to stop a certain equaliser Fonte - 8 Usual classy stuff from Jose Harding - 7 Very solid first half, and linked well with Lallana going forward as always. A couple of slack moments in the second half let him down, he need to stop making bad errors in and around his own box if he's to keep Dickson out of the side Lallana - 9 MOTM Absolute class, some of his skills, tricks and dribbling were an absolute joy to watch. His movement off the ball is incredible and the only reason I didn't give him 10 is that he should have scored 4 goals and not 1. Although the one he did score was a belter!! Morgan - 8 Excellent performance in the middle, chased down, put his foot in and pinged the ball around with ease. Looked much happier on the ball in the second half when the game opened up and Exeter gave up. Chaplow - 8 So glad we signed him permanently, he chases, he tackles, he makes so many runs into the box, and he very nearly finished off one of the best team passing moves I've ever seen at st. mary's Chamberlain - 7 Did really well to set up Guly's second. Always a threat down the right and great to see him taken off early so he's fresh to destroy Dagenham on Monday Lambert - 8 He's definitely getting back to his best now. Winning flicks and headers, making runs, chasing down and (something he hasn't been doing this season) hitting the ball first time. Guly - 8 Two excellent finishes and deserved goals. He put himself about and made excellent runs as well as showing good strength when challenging for the ball. Subs: Barnard - 7 Could've had a couple, good to see him back Dickson - 7 Was a genuine threat and unlucky not to get on the scoresheert Gobern - Not really on for long enough

His first 8 passes went astray - I was watching him closely An early cross with his left foot fell perfectly for Morgan, who should have hit the target with his header, and then a through ball for Lallana which he should have scored (ok not a cross, but you get the idea). Still, defensively you have to agree he was excellent
forever a red and white Posted 1 January, 2011 Share Posted 1 January, 2011 Can't look past Chaplow, worked very hard and made a huge difference to help turn the game in our favour, his performance made it possible for the likes of Lallana and co to have the freedom to cause havoc. CWD Posted 1 January, 2011 Share Posted 1 January, 2011 Chaplow, Lallana and Guly were all too good for exeter today. Add to that a very tight defensive display on the whole and some superb hold up play by Rickie and, dare I say it, we're starting to look like we can win this league. Lambo, guly and lallana work so well together when going forward morgan had his best game of the season for me
Charlie Wayman Posted 1 January, 2011 Share Posted 1 January, 2011 Morgan Schneiderlin played for Saints... savour those words and that thought! Today in the second half we lucky 22000 witnessed the coming of age of a new world star. One day we'll look back in fond remembrance of today and say "I was there!" "How good was he Dad?" you young 'uns will be asked... "Oh! Son, I cannot begin to explain"
Dr Who? Posted 1 January, 2011 Share Posted 1 January, 2011 On a completely different subject it looked *****il the injury time goal) as the 3 goals Lallana & Guly Do Prado x 2 were going to be the only goal scorers. Lallana 20 Guly 11 = 2011!! Just thought that was a little bit strange, but no worries up popped the number 9 to bag our 4th, and I cannot think of a link there!! LostBoys Posted 1 January, 2011 Share Posted 1 January, 2011 I thought Morgan Schneiderlin was class today. All the team played well and we could have and should have had ten but I predicted 4 zip. We are going up
saint simes Posted 1 January, 2011 Share Posted 1 January, 2011 Maybe you should put your glasses on at the next match then..... were you even at the same match as the rest of us????????????? Yes I think he was at the same match as me, Richardsons passing and crosses were poor today, especially 1st half. Great game though, Chaplow, Lallana, Guly and Fonte had good games, second half I actually really enjoyed, its not often as a Saints fan you feel relaxed at a game! NickG Posted 1 January, 2011 Share Posted 1 January, 2011 Richardson's was struggling with the accuracy of some of his passes (too many) for a period of the first half. However, he was constantly available, immense in defence, and still managed some excellent through balls and crosses. Had a very good game. Roger Posted 2 January, 2011 Share Posted 2 January, 2011 Madruss Richardson did not put in one quality cross and his passing was woeful. His first 8 passes went astray - I was watching him closely He was solid as. Also you must have missed his slide rule ball through to lallana when lallana missed at start. Morgan had a great game though today, surely you agree and lamberts ball skills were superb, bringing other people into the game. Davis 7 Richardson 8 Fonte 8 Cborne 6 Harding 6 Lallana 7 Morgan 8 Chaplow 7 AOC 7 Lambert 8-Superb last 30 mins as with morgan. Guly 8.
ottery st mary Posted 2 January, 2011 Share Posted 2 January, 2011 Davis 7 Some good saves..steady eddie..More throws to feet would help. Richardson 7 getting fitter..strong defender Harding 7 works very well with AL..better defender than given credit for. Fonte 7...Always a mainstay and glad he is in our team. Seaborne 8 much improved ..good to have strength in depth. AOC 7 still to be looked after by Adkins subs etc...Exciting young player. Lallana 9 real QUALITY...A DELIGHT TO WATCH..worried the hell out of Ex defenders. Spiderman 8 much improved...Hammond injured. or the better bet at a cold rusty Daggers ground Chappers 8 he is the man missing in the middle...all action..Top man. Lambert 8 worked really hard linking up and creating space..well done Rikeee the goals will now come as well. Guly 8 well done for goals ...will be interesting at Daggers....glad to see Barney back amongst it...will definitely need his imput up front. For Ex...Harley is and was class on the ball...Lacked support and running off the ball by his team mates. At times he worried me as he outplayed our midfield early on...Like his side, ran out of steam and ideas. Bear in mind he, like some of the team, very ill recently. But then again the mighty Saints were too strong and we are ever improving. Harley Will be picked up by some team very soon. As stated would he suit our style....I really rate him.. ottery 10 for his support coaching from the stands.........
benjii Posted 2 January, 2011 Share Posted 2 January, 2011 Madruss Richardson did not put in one quality cross and his passing was woeful. His first 8 passes went astray - I was watching him closely Not closely enough I fear. That was his best game for us by some distance. As someone has already pointed out he went on a great run and played Lallana in one-on-one in the first ten minutes. I usually find Butterfield to be the better of the two on the ball but Richardson was very accomplished today.

I think Richardson is quality, but I think it was his worst game for us whilst still being solid and doing what he needed to do.
