Alain Perrin Posted 11 January, 2011 Share Posted 11 January, 2011 "Son, you have a prodigious talent, you'll have big contracts waved under your nose - more money than most people can ever earn. That'll come, we can't offer you huge contracts now, but we can give you the chance to be something more than being a bench warmer. With Southampton you can be a legend. Your name, like Stokes, like Channon, like Le Tissier, can be associated with history; for your contribution in leading this club back to the Premiership. So come on, sign here." He's not checking up on a team that he's facing in a couple of weeks then? Chambo will be with us till the end of the season. After that he'll probably move on. Junior Mullet Posted 12 January, 2011 Share Posted 12 January, 2011 Hahaha, as if Fergie would sign OXO!! Man Utd are only interested in signing players of OXO's calibre if they can sell shirts in South America or the Far East FFS.

Saint Fan CaM Posted 12 January, 2011 Share Posted 12 January, 2011 Oxo will be a big test of intent on Nicola's part to be honest. With a 3 year contract he's committed to all the cards are with NC to keep hold of Oxo until Xmas this year at least and possibly beyond. If we're challenging for promotion to the Prem next season then Oxo might just stay with us as the funds will be ready to invest. Fact is, if the five year plan is to work as intended, we need to be keeping the best talent to come from the Academy and therefore my hope is that we brush interest from other clubs aside. I always think if we never relegated from the prem the likes of bale and others would still be here Unfortuneately kraftwork, they wouldn't be ....even if we were in the prem. I think we've seen the biggest test of Nicolas intent, by signing Lallana. That was huge and with interest from the premiership clubs wouldn't have come cheap. Oxo is different, he is under contract and it is more of a business decision based on any offer and of course what he wants himself. Although it's paper talk, our figure is 10 million for him (Which is crazy money for what he has achieved so far) but if he wants off now with 3 years left, that is the price. I suspect (But don't know) if Adkins was offered 5 million to spend on players if oxo was sold, he would have a diffficult decision.

I always think if we never relegated from the prem the likes of bale and others would still be here Thanks. My feeling regarding Bale and Walcott is that yes it's possible they would have stayed if we were challenging the top half of the Prem (rather than fighting relegation every season). There needed to be continual improvement in the squad (meaning investment) to achieve this and this was not happening under the PLC structure, so on balance I have to say that their aspirations would have taken them to other more "fashionable" clubs anyway. There is a difference now I think. While we are just a lowly 3rd tier club, we have strong leadership, a vision and investment in the future. There is a real, tangible expectation of success about the place. Everyone seems to be buying into the vision Nicola has portrayed of the club being back in the Prem and challenging for major honours. It all seems so plausible, however it hinges on all the wheels remaining on the bus (to coin a phrase) over the next 3-4 years and that includes the likes of Lallana and Chambo staying with us. Simple answer is that only Oxo knows if he's got the will to stay with Saints based on his contract conditions and his heart. I truly hope he stays but I think the money being talked about is huge. 50/50 chance at the moment.
derry Posted 12 January, 2011 Share Posted 12 January, 2011 We should now set a trend, cash on the nail. Set the price and take it up front, all the incentives in the world won't replace the loss to us. So if the price is set, that's it, plus a 25% sell on clause. If a club wants one of our valuable players we are willing to sell at that price they can write a cheque. It may well make a few eyes water but in my view the rediculous transfer fees would be no more if clubs had to pay up front.

Saint Fan CaM Posted 13 January, 2011 Share Posted 13 January, 2011 TSW mentalists strike again! Come on then - please explain why you would take either Rooney or Gerrard over Oxo - or are you only capable of having a dig at other posters? I would love to hear why you would sacrifice a product of OUR academy - an excellent player already with many years of potential improvement in him and possibly sacrifice what is clearly an excellent team spirit and risk diverting from the big plan, for one of two has-beens that failed for their country and are at dusk of their careers! You might idolise these so-called stars, but they do nothing for me.
