Leslie Charteris Posted 28 January, 2011 Share Posted 28 January, 2011 Reading that brings on a warm glow of pride. I think the best thing that could happen to the club is to get back to the Premier League follwing an Arsenal style model rather than a Man City or Chelsea one. Matthew Le God Posted 28 January, 2011 Share Posted 28 January, 2011 Their under-18s, bolstered by over-age players, are second in Group A of the Premier Academy League, ahead of Arsenal and 11 points clear of Chelsea. Well that is wrong for a start! You can't have over aged players in the under 18's Premier League Academy leagues, he seems to be confusing it with the under 21 development squad (or the Olympics). But other than that and reference to our CEO as "Nicolas", it is actually a very good, accurate article. It does make good reading, but does remind us all of the frustrations of having the "ultimate academy". I even acknowledge that he who shall not be mentioned did do something right (even though we had had a good foundation previously).

SuperMikey Posted 28 January, 2011 Share Posted 28 January, 2011 Focusing on the academy is one of Nicola's priorities - I really share that belief with him. I'd love us to be producing a new first-team squad capable of competing in the Premiership every 5 years, supplementing our talented youngsters with quality transfers from rival teams and those abroad. That's a pipe dream for the moment, but I firmly believe that under Cortese we're heading in that direction.
MarkSFC Posted 28 January, 2011 Share Posted 28 January, 2011 I don't think anyone disputes the good RL did with the academy BUT the only thing that matters !at the end of the day! is how successful the first team is. That he F***** up big time. I hope NC does not make the same mistake......I'm sure he won't!!
Picard Posted 28 January, 2011 Share Posted 28 January, 2011 An article on Saints best young players in the French sports newspaper. http://www.lequipe.fr/Football/breves2011/20110128_232610_southampton-l-ecole-des-champions.html Naturally they are most intersested in Schneiderlin.
