PaulSaint Posted 4 April, 2011 Share Posted 4 April, 2011 £69 million less than last time (gulp). http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-12965536 More clubs to go bust methinks?
SaintSparky Posted 4 April, 2011 Share Posted 4 April, 2011 Only for those who live beyond their means and fail to plan their financial business properly. The drop in income is known in advance, there is no excuse for any club to get into financial problems due to this change.
Dazza82 Posted 4 April, 2011 Share Posted 4 April, 2011 This surprises me as i think the standard of football in the football league has improved over the last couple of years with some really good games, would of thought the price would of stayed at least the same. Golden Balls Posted 4 April, 2011 Share Posted 4 April, 2011 Teams will feel this loss more than we will, which is a roundabout way may be a good thing for us.

MarkSFC Posted 4 April, 2011 Share Posted 4 April, 2011 69 million over 3 years means 23 million per year divided by 72 clubs equates to just over 300k per season per club. I doubt that its actually split equally but could effect Div 2 clubs enough to hinder them. Maybe this is the start of the meltdown of the structure we have. North and South sections won't be far away at least below Div

It is significantly more in the Championship.
St Chalet Posted 4 April, 2011 Share Posted 4 April, 2011 There are two big evils in football that encourage clubs to live beyond their means. 1. Football Creditor Rule 2. Parachute Payments from Prem League Until the two above are abolished clubs will continue to (1) Continue to sell their assets on long term payment plans knowing that the money is as secure as a government security (obviously not an Irish one). If all deals were effectively cash then we would see more realistic fees. (2) The parachute payments encourage teams to 'bet the farm' safe in the knowledge that however extragent they are they have a safety net, combined with a significant advantage in bouncing straight back up. Alan Sugar was right many years ago on this subject.
Rocker268 Posted 4 April, 2011 Share Posted 4 April, 2011 Does this mean that the highlights on the BBC and the Football League Show will cease to be shown on the BBC from next season? I'm assuming so, but I'm not sure if there will be a secondary deal to protect this service
Capel Saint Posted 5 April, 2011 Share Posted 5 April, 2011 Hopefully the beeb can do a deal with Sky, much like they did with Match of the Day and so a highlights program can still be aired. With regards to clubs having less income, it is up to the Boards of the respective clubs to stand firm on players (via their agents) to pay wages within the clubs means. Trouble is, Boards tend to gamble on paying bigger wages to get the better players and hence take a big financial risk if they don't gain promotion etc, and the risks are bigger the lower down the leagues you go. Take a look at the Premier League, there aren't many clubs (if any) that are cash rich from the Sky TV money, gate revenue etc without a multi-millionaire or billionaire owner(s) putting in their own cash to pay the ridiculous wages of players. It has been a problem for years and Portsmouth are a classic example of what happens when the owner decides to step away and not fund the club anymore. Saints themselves were also guily of this when the Wilde bunch spent beyond the clubs means in a bid for promotion back to the Prem and we all know the nightmare that caused. Maybe less Sky money will get the Boards of clubs, especially in the Prem to start looking at reducing wages to a more realistic level. I guess time will tell........... The9 Posted 5 April, 2011 Share Posted 5 April, 2011 (edited) I'm surprised they got that much for the rights, Sky must have worked out that the BBC wouldn't be able to bid... I don't think the Sky money is anything like as big a proportion of income for some lower league clubs as it is in the Prem, and there's almost certainly not the reliance on the tv money because it's more rare that teams get a live game and isn't to be relied upoin - but it'll probably hit the smaller sides badly. North and South sections won't be far away at least below Div 1 I think clubs in the Championship not already receiving parachute payments from the Prem get something like £2 million - £3 million per year at the moment from the current deal. It's quite a significant increase from what teams get in League 1, which if memory serves was something like £500K. I know the Bournemouth Echo were getting pretty excited about it recently when they thought Boscombe were going up.
ericofarabia Posted 5 April, 2011 Share Posted 5 April, 2011 I hope Showtime out here get back into showing The Championship/L 1 games as the present lot Al Jazeera are total fecking dicks. They haven't shown any of our televised games even though they have the rights - unless they only have rights to show one game a week. And never publish their schedule till a day in advance FFS. Mind you I might not benefit as we go straight up to the prem at the end of next season LOL (I haven't even had a sniff of Old Speckled Hen yet - just optimistic about tonight and the rest of the season) Happy clappy me up boys. Saintandy666 Posted 5 April, 2011 Share Posted 5 April, 2011 Expect to see more and more sports taken away from the BBC and co as the BBC is bashed more and more by this tory government. When Sky merges with News Corporation, they will be unstoppable

Dazza82 Posted 5 April, 2011 Share Posted 5 April, 2011 There has been a recession. Really? When was that? So will they cut the money for Premiership games or will that be staying the same. I doubt that the recession has hit sky that hard they are just taking advantage of non Premiership clubs imo
