Just wondering how many teams have suffered administration and 2 relegations and managed to fight their way back to the premier league ? Also while on the theme did I hear someone saying no team has lost 8 out of the first ten games and survived?

I think we will be the first promoted team to loose 8 out of the first 10, and still manage to survive.

Thought this thread was going to be about David Connolly ;) haha

I'm sure there are a few clubs who have got relegated twice and then promoted back into the same division, but doubt it's happened with Premier League clubs. The only ones who have gone into Admin who have played in the premier league are Us, Pompey, Leeds, Palace, Coventry, Bradford, Ipswich, QPR, Barnsley, Derby....have I missed any!?

Well there have been lots of teams that have been well down in the lower leagues and suffered admin etc and made it into the Prem, so I'm not sure exactly what the question is? Is it teams that have left the Prem, gone down to League One in admin, then made it back into the Prem? That's probably only us.

Never let the facts get in the way, so I thought it was four points after ten games, which could be only six defeats.

Amazing how many wrote us off, ruling out time to settle, player quality, better fixtures and the important fact we were only about 3 or 4 points off safety anyway.
From the start of November, once the side had got some Prem experience under it's belt & once Cork and Shaw were in the side regularly, look how few games we've lost http://www.statto.com/football/teams/southampton/2012-2013/results

Have to think the team as it is now, more settled, more belief, fewer injuries etc., would have held on against one of MU or MC, beaten Wigan and/or Fulham and put up far more fight in the other games. Could easily be 10 points better off, which would have us in really dizzy heights! And IMO, that's just with our current squad. If it's improved upon, things could get crazy.

There's hope for all smaller clubs IMO. MU could struggle post-Fergie, and aren't exactly brilliant at the moment, MC throw cash around but I can't see them building a long-term team, Arsenal seem to make the same mistakes every year, Chelsea will sabotage themselves, Spurs could be screwed if they lose Bale, yet he might be too good to keep, and Liverpool, well who gives a sh1t. I think teams like Everton, Swansea and perhaps now Saints should be very positive.

The future looks very bright, indeed. When it comes to others writing us off, we were quite **** in more or less all of our first ten games, apart from Villa. We got a lot of positive words for how we played against City and Man. Utd, but the lack off ability to win games after taking the lead was just one of many signs of a typical relegation candidate.

No we were weren't. Out of our first 10 games, you could only really say we were really poor against Wigan, Arsenal, West Ham and West Brom and even those games there were positives from most of them.

Beg to differ on parts of that. Would add Everton to that list as well. Against City, I seem to remember them creating tons of big chances, while we scored on the ones we got. Agree we weren't **** against Man Utd, and didn't see the game against Spurs. My point was that I can understand why most pundits thought we would go down after the first 10 games.

Fair enough, I can also see why pundits would think we would go down, just wanted to demonstrate that we weren't "****" in all of our first 10 games.

I can see that was an exaggeration. Really poor is a better choice of words, and against City we were positive, but also very lucky not to get spanked.

But we beat Villa so that means we drew another game and lost the other eight.

I know our stats for this season. The stat I heard quoted was that no newly promoted team with only four points on the board after ten games has ever survived. The suggestion was that other teams had been in that position in previous seasons, but ended up being relegated. You can get to four points by only losing six games out of ten.

What was as the Xmas league placement all about, was it just the bottom team that ended up being relegated

West Brom only had 10 points at christmas time in our relegation season, but still survived.
