ART Posted 3 May, 2013 Share Posted 3 May, 2013 Ever since Georges Proust left the club nd returned to France there have been few people of his incredible caliber available. That is, until now. Montpellier's manager René Girard is just that man, and has made it known of his desire to work in England. Last year René's Montpellier team won the Premier Ligue in France on a shoe string budget. Sadly club chairman Louis Nicollin saw it as a chance to cash in and sell of his best players. With a new summer sale being lined up, Girard has resigned and is thus available. If Saints are really serious about their ambitions, René Girard would be just the man to work with the young players and making use of his keen eye for recruiting good players. He could do a really fantastic job for us, working with the same French academy principles that Georges did so well for Saints René Girard wants to work in England http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22381080 René Girard's profile http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ren%C3%A9_Girard_%28footballer%
CWD Posted 3 May, 2013 Share Posted 3 May, 2013 I don't think he'd come to England to coach the Saints u18 team. Sounds like he wants to manage a proper team.

Saint Charlie Posted 3 May, 2013 Share Posted 3 May, 2013 Would he do a better job with the U18s than Doddsy?
dubai_phil Posted 3 May, 2013 Share Posted 3 May, 2013 Fair point about Georges Prost Art. I do hope that somewhere in our system he is still considered a friend of Saints and keeps an eye open for more Morgan's
ART Posted 3 May, 2013 Author Share Posted 3 May, 2013 Would he do a better job with the U18s than Doddsy? Of late Dodd hasn't been doing too well Losing 4 of the last 5 games and drawing the other. I always thought you were a big fan of Georges Proust and what he achieved at Saints. René Girard offers an incredible option for the club. If Cortesé was to speak with him I'm certain he'd jump at the chance to be involved with Saints long term.
Crab Lungs Posted 3 May, 2013 Share Posted 3 May, 2013 If you've ever seen Dodd's Eastleigh team, you'd know why we're underperforming...

Its about player developement, not results. If you focus on results in development teams there's a big risk you pick physically mature players over players with high technical abilty but that are not as physically mature. In short, I don't really care how many matches the U18s & U21s win as long as players keep being promoted to the first team.
Sour Mash Posted 3 May, 2013 Share Posted 3 May, 2013 There is an interview in tonight's Evening Standard with Jake Thompson about Bale - he says that there had been a debate at Saints re keeping Bale on when he was 14/15 and it was Prost that insisted he was kept on. max_saints Posted 3 May, 2013 Share Posted 3 May, 2013 this is all in my opinion but I highly doubt someone who has the ligue 1 title under his belt would want to coach our under 18s...

ART Posted 3 May, 2013 Author Share Posted 3 May, 2013 on what grounds? I live in Montpellier and have been listening to Girard talking over the past week on local radio of his future plans. Girard is training orientated and works with young players. He has a keen eye for spotting players who will progress and his past experience as well as developing Montpellier shows his ability to do this. He's been sold down the river by his Chairman, who continues to sell of players to the detriment of the team building. Southampton would be an ideal club for Girard due to their ambition and financial weight and wanting to develop players and hold on to them rather that sell them to make money. The9 Posted 3 May, 2013 Share Posted 3 May, 2013 on what grounds? On the grounds that ART has a very tenuous grasp on reality, maybe ?
