Fitzhugh Fella Posted 2 January, 2009 Share Posted 2 January, 2009 Enjoyed watching this from the BBC. Good to see Channon, Ossie and Pedro singing "Oh When the Saints" and have never seen the Barry Davies piece on the final before. Also the boardroom filming is new to me - good to see George Reader (then our Chairman) get a few words with Mary's dad watching on. Things have certainly changed - no photo of a train in the Boardroom then. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/fa_cup/7783151.stm

lordswoodsaints Posted 2 January, 2009 Share Posted 2 January, 2009 the current players and directors should be made to watch that.....it will give them an insight into how important the club is to us lot. anybody know the fan that got hit by the team bus? would be interesting to hear his story?:-)
OldNick Posted 2 January, 2009 Share Posted 2 January, 2009 It was quaint seeing the board at the time,it shows how archaic it just was. i bet LM ran rings around them. george reader was my fathers headmaster. Some terrific memories brought back, and seeing LM as i remember him best.

Good to see the pictures from the old board room, and in particular Basil Bowyer, nice old gent he was.He actually contributed to a club fine myself and others occured whilst we were playing in France during close season. Very naughty boys we were.
Saint Richard of Woolston Posted 2 January, 2009 Share Posted 2 January, 2009 Halcyon days, indeed. I seem to recall I enjoyed football in those days. And the players looked like they did too.
SaintRobbie Posted 2 January, 2009 Share Posted 2 January, 2009 There's a big article in the Sun today over the train picture. WELL DONE LAWRIE - nice to see someone has the guts to not standby and let the club die with Lowe at the helm. The national media are now starting to have a go at Lowe, who has directly accused Lawrie of leaving the club skint. Oh dear. Here we go.

I think Lawrie's actions in giving the interview has less to moving Lowe on than it has to do with his own ego. The whole situation, from moving the picture to Lawrie publicly crying over it, is a bit sad really and writes another page in the dying pages of a once happy club. I think if Lowe is constantly critisized in the national press it will incease the pressure on him to step down as Chairman (his shareholding is a separate issue). So I think Lawrie, Channon and anyone else the press take notice of should be shouting loudly about Lowe's poor management and strategy. Whilst we're in the spotlight, now is the time to shout. While I kinda agree about LM's ego, I still find it sad that now, this club's finest hour is being tarnished by a rather unnecessary and spiteful one-way spat. For all his faults (and everyone has an opinion) LM's achievement in bringing home a trophy should be treated with at least a modicum of respect. Did you get your chips in the end? And welcome back Duncan. Watched this little clip with a mate earlier and it brought back such happy memories. Football seemed alot simpler then, although I'm sure there were just as many egos in play (methinks the lack of money around may have been one positive though). As for that train picture it really is small fry, irrelevant, off the radar and I'm sure Lawrie's ego is in play, BUT by golly for something so small fry and irrelevant it says soooo much about what is wrong with this Club at the moment. bridge too far Posted 2 January, 2009 Share Posted 2 January, 2009 I'm told that LM had another pop at the club's hierarchy this evening on Radio 5 Live, although I didn't hear it myself. Lord Duckhunter Posted 2 January, 2009 Share Posted 2 January, 2009 That's right Lowe, blame Lawrie for the Club being skint. It's beyond belief, Lawrie's to blame and not our Football Chairman or PLC Chairman.

Let it all drip, drip, drip - like Chinese water torture..... It was a good interview. There was David Pleat, Steve Claridge and Mark Pougatch talking to LM. It wasn't really a pop - more a laddish chat with which it was difficult to disagree. Certainly Pleat, Claridge & Pougatch ended up agreeing with comments that Lowe was not a football man but he is notorious for his loose cannon wacky ideas - eg Woodwood & now the Dutch duo.. Piut their wages together and hey presto you can afford a high earner. It is clearly far too obvious for our Rupert.

Imbibing Brandy, smoking the finest cigars and generally patting each other on the back in a frenzy of mutual admiration. Scooby " How are things at SMS lord Duckmeister" RL " They are as well as can be expected at this moment dear Scooboid" Somedunce " I hear tale that there are less flatcaps now you have closed the corners to drive the Lunatic Fringe out" RL " Yes, that little plan seems to be working. Those working class gimps can't help but shoot themselves in the foot though" Scooby & Somedunce (in unison) " Pray tell us oh ruddy cheeks, how is this?" RL " They've only gorn and given me a picture of a bliddy train so I can oust that oik McMenemy's picture from the boardroom, but he's gorn to the red tops and is whining about it. If only this damn business had not brought mcMenemy here in the first place . . (all 3 together) Yes!!! It would be a much nicer and richer place!"
