Greenridge Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 Some interesting comments from Pekhart regarding his loan spell with us (From SSN) The Czech endured a miserable spell at the struggling Saints earlier this season where he made just two starts in the league, scoring one goal. "After my arrival I was not complaining at all about anything, everything was going fine. Three weeks later, when I played in the starting line-up, they suddenly put me in the stand," he added. "I went to the coach to ask him about the explanation and he replied that it was because of the club's policy. "Since then I did not know what was going on in the team and came on mostly only as a substitute. "Later I found out that the club had huge financial problems and the management wanted to play only with the players who had been at the club ever since. "They stopped picking players who were there on loan." Pekhart's luck did not improve when he returned to Spurs as he admits that manager Harry Redknapp was not even informed that he had returned. "During the first few days of my arrival the coach did not even know I was there," he explained. "I was with the first team for a while, then with the reserve team for a while. Now I am waiting for my agent to arrive and we will start negotiations. "I could not be nominated for matches anyway as I was a Southampton player until January 1st. Clearly he's wrong about that but you can understand his bewilderment about the whole situation.

ottery st mary Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 Honest Question..Only saw a video of him. Was he good enough or never given a chance or wrong system? Interested as we seem to have made many mistakes with loans or used wrongly.
lordswoodsaints Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 he was left in the stands because he was crap. and the bit about not playing the loan players is obvious bullsh1t as cork and pearce were regulars.
John B Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 I thought the policy was to play good young players perhaps he did not fit that description. We played Cork Pearce and Robertson
Junction 9 Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 It was just unlucky he was at the club at the same time we have a player like McGoldrick who is on fire. He never stood a chance.
Chez Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 he played poorly, but like all strikers they need a good long run in the side to find their feet.

Interested as we seem to have made many mistakes with loans or used wrongly. Saw him 3 or 4 times and never impressed me at all. In one reserve game he was abysmal. No touch, poor in the air, lack of awareness around him - going for headers that others were in far better positions to make and a lack of presence up front at all. Just my opinion in those 3 or 4 games mind.

Dicko Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 I'm only guessing here, but perhaps the arrangement with Spurs was different to other loan players and their clubs Pekhart or Spurs may have received money for every appearance, and once we realised he wasn't that good, we stopped playing him Like I say, only guessing
corky morris Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 My worry is that clubs wont want to loan us players if we chop & change so much. I am also not convinced that if we had Wayne Rooney playing for us we would score many more goals as the supply is sadly lacking. As for Pekhart. Spurs fans at work suggest that he is the kind of guy who works well with a smaller quick striker rather than as the lone striker.
Ken Tone Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 Just sour grapes from a failed player. When he came on a sub in hs first game he didn't do much in general play but scored a real striker's goal and I thought "we've got a good 'un here". But then he was given a whole game and did absolutely nothing --- looked appalling in fact -- and showed no sign of scoring either. That was why he ended up sitting in the stand. He just wasn't very good. K.

One reason players are loaned out is to see if they can perform at a higher level. Spurs maybe very grateful for SFC playing Pekhart Like McGoldrick Pekart scored loads of goals in the reserves. SaintRobbie Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 I just laugh now when I read things like this... how can it KEEP getting worse? Never understood how Lowe and the boardroom and shareholders continually manage to make things worse. We never seem to bottom out do we? Now a loanee player exposes the joke of a loan system in place. I am really worried. I think we are spending too much on loanees as it is let alone 'Club Policy' (ie Lowe) refusing to allow JP to play them. You couldnt make it up. Chez Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 Now a loanee player exposes the joke of a loan system in place. a loanee that played like ****, was dropped and sent home early. What did you expect Pekhart to say: "I didn't play very well in the few chances I got, so they dropped me to the reserves where I played poorly. They obviously realised Patterson was better than me so they sent me home."

John B Posted 5 January, 2009 Share Posted 5 January, 2009 And any of those three would do better than the current shower Yes but all those mentioned had better support from Midfield and the Wings so dont just blame the strikers Are they missing that many clear cut chances as I dont know. I blame the groundsman..The surface is not right for football..Just look at Man Utd. Didn't look half the side they normally are...What chance do our young go getters have. I also blame the loss of woggy from the kit room the side have never looked the same since. All the Saints strikers mentioned above were loved and adored by me and appreciate the memories fellow posters. Most of them didn't need any help to cause havoc...George Kirby used to nut them in the tunnel before the game, just to let them know what was about to occur. Pekart isn't not playing because we can't afford to play him. We signed him when we were skint and we haven't got significantly more skint since signing him. If we really couldn't afford to service the loan then we'd have cancelled the loan and sent him back to Spurs, wouldn't we? He was a useless donkey who couldn't get a game for our shower. He's hardly going to admit that is he? You couldn't make up what some Saints fans will swallow.

CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 It would seem we're not the only club who don't really rate this young player : http://www.goal.com/en/news/699/tottenham/2009/01/13/1059199/tomas-pekhart-to-leave-tottenham-hotspur He'll probably score the winning goal in the 2012 Champions League final now . :yawinkle:
