Scummer Posted 15 January, 2009 Share Posted 15 January, 2009 Until I saw his name, I'd completely forgotten about him. Played 11 times for us on loan from Liverpool in 2006. There's a number of players who've been at Saints yet failed to linger in the memory. Wonder who would be the person who's played the most games for us (in recent years), yet still be instantly forgettable.....?

Scummer Posted 15 January, 2009 Author Share Posted 15 January, 2009 We've had some classics from Liverpool actually: Sammy Lee Mark Walters Barry Venison (obviously not all directly from Liverpool, but I tend to think of all of them as 'Liverpool players')

trousers Posted 15 January, 2009 Share Posted 15 January, 2009 Why do these 'big club' fringe players stick with said clubs in the vein hope that they'll some day make it big whilst continually loaned out because they fail over several years to break into their first team? Surely it would be better to be settled in the first team of a lower league side as a 'permie' rather than flitting from pillar to post season after season? Dunno. One word, money Most players would rather earn a good wedge playing reserves or not playing for a big club, rather than be paid peanuts at a lower league club. You know who I mean, big feller, dark hair. Always put up one arm when he scored. You know who I mean, used to hang about with that bloke who had the long hair, blond I think. Had the bird with the big arris. You know, him. It's on the tip of my toungue.

Scummer Posted 15 January, 2009 Author Share Posted 15 January, 2009 Jamie Redknapp Jimmy Case I was more meaning players who came from there and did pretty much nothing for us. While that was the case for Redknapp, Case was slightly different. Why do these 'big club' fringe players stick with said clubs in the vein hope that they'll some day make it big whilst continually loaned out because they fail over several years to break into their first team? To be fair to Potter, he did leave Liverpool and went to Wolves. He hasn't played a single game for them this season.

Which backs up my point somewhat. But as someone has pointed out, my point was somewhat rhetorical given the answer is "money"

ulstersaint Posted 15 January, 2009 Share Posted 15 January, 2009 Jamie Redknapp Jimmy Case Jimmy Case from Liverpool via Brighton for £30k was Lawrie's last signing and one of his best. 269 games a few goals. How we could do with someone like him in our current midfield.
