Benj540 Posted 21 January, 2009 Share Posted 21 January, 2009 What happened? Baird hardly gets a game and Bale is clearly off his game. Just were not ready for the increase in quality? Shame really we could of really done with Baird these last 2 seasons. Having said that Bale would have been pretty handy to have aswell.

saint_stevo Posted 21 January, 2009 Share Posted 21 January, 2009 Bale cant defend, his pace was enough in the Championship to make up for it. Baird was tarnished with the 'Sanchez signed too many championship players' brush and not got a look in since, and Hodgson has come in and bought his own players in, and to be fair Hangeland has been very very good
John Boy Saint Posted 21 January, 2009 Share Posted 21 January, 2009 Hey you might as well get payed 4 times + what you were on at Saints to sit on your backside, working 9:30 to 12:30. Than getting run ragged every Saturday and occasional week night: that is until the novelty starts to run thin like it did with Bridgey at Chelski. ozzmeister Posted 22 January, 2009 Share Posted 22 January, 2009 Would love both of them in the team now, maybe Baird a bit more, although didnt Bale also seem to bring the best out of Rudi?

1965onwards Posted 22 January, 2009 Share Posted 22 January, 2009 Bale is not a fullback,he is a very good pacey left midfielder, a rare breed. Will end up with top 4 club in right position in 2/3 years.
saintjay77 Posted 22 January, 2009 Share Posted 22 January, 2009 They both left us too early, Should have stayed and became total football world beaters like the rest of our acadamy
saint1977 Posted 22 January, 2009 Share Posted 22 January, 2009 Bale is more of a LM than a LB and Spurs have been misfiring badly. He'll come good. Baird is a different matter. Whilst I loved the fact CB gave 110%, his reading of the game as a centre-back got him out of trouble in 06/07 and we conceded a lot of goals from set-pieces that season. He scored a couple of superb goals but to get £3m for him was very good business. He's a tidy CCC player but not consistently PL although he can do well at that level on a good day. Papa Shango Posted 22 January, 2009 Share Posted 22 January, 2009 Bale will probably come good at some point, he's still very young. People forget that even for us he was very inconsistent.
Chez Posted 22 January, 2009 Share Posted 22 January, 2009 they were/are not as good as people hyped them up to be..? theo was/is good..and it clearly shows may be now, but Theo took an age to settle at Arsenal. Given time perhaps Bale will look as good, besides he has been injured a hell of a lot since he left. Baird never was Premiership quality.
saint-crinny Posted 22 January, 2009 Share Posted 22 January, 2009 Bale - So much potential and is definitely good enough for the PL. Look at the way he played when he first signed for Spurs before his injury. It's just a confidence thing with him, he seems so nervous every time I've seen him play, which is maybe not surprising given Spurs current form and the fact that he has made a few errors. Baird - not really good enough to play in the Prem. Not big enough for a CB, not quick enough for RB. Would still be a great signing for any Championship side though
INFLUENCED.COM Posted 22 January, 2009 Share Posted 22 January, 2009 greed happened to them. Ours could be categorised the same, was it borne out of necessity ? both were very good offers and difficult to turn down by all.
david in sweden Posted 22 January, 2009 Share Posted 22 January, 2009 Just were not ready for the increase in quality? Shame really we could of really done with Baird these last 2 seasons. Having said that Bale would have been pretty handy to have aswell. IMO the Baird sale, while unexpected, was even more remarkable for the fee that we got. Whoever negotiated that really did a great job. I would have thought something closer to £1 mill. I don't think he is really top Prem.class but he's as good as Fulham are likely to get. The Bale deal looked good, and he was OK going into a good /average side (which is what Spurs were then) NOW in a struggling side he's got a problem getting a game. HE looked good going forward (with Saints) but many people saw that he wasn't a top class defender, but as an attacking left-sided player he was exciting. Players don't become top class because they get signed by a top side, as so it was with Bale.
