Holmes_and_Watson Posted yesterday at 19:15 Posted yesterday at 19:15 A couple of headlines today, pointing out Beeb issues. Newspaper editorial filters....ON! There goes impartiality. Beeb can say that no editorial decisions are made by civil service secondment staff. That doesn't mean that the writers aren't backing their bosses, and also have communication channels to them. There's also paying for the civil service, who are then in the Beeb, that we also pay for. The Beeb gets thumped from all sides over impartiality. There's also no doubt that when the gov threaten the license fee, or when they reported on the death of David Kelly, they jumped to the government's tune in the aftermath. But having the civil service do the writing is a dreadful look. I think I heard it had been going on under a couple of parties. BBC Bite size shaping the policy decisions our children will make, when they grow up. Perhaps it's civil service staff that are overseeing the educational content too? Others will just see it as yet another example of ideological capture in the Beeb. Yesterday, I heard the Beeb's great idea to fund it's pensions, I mean, educate, inform and entertain, was to charge people watching you tube. The beeb's recent announcements of more you tube content, now seems nothing to do with broadening their reach, and all to do with pretending everyone with access to their videos, must pay regardless of actually viewing it.

Who could possibly have predicted this? The irony of people aggressively stating that media bias is a “conspiracy theory” until the media confirm it is incredible. badgerx16 Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago (edited) That BBC Bitesize "game" has the immigrants crossing land borders, and asks players about how they would manage living next to an active volcano. Obviously focussed on the UK. It's a simpilified way of looking at challenging decisions and their consequences, not a political indoctrination program. Edited 15 hours ago by badgerx16

whelk Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago I feel bit of a mix with BBC - not one to continually bash it as aware some have vested interest in seeing it crumble but also wtf are they doing making podcasts about gangsters etc? Appreciate media changes and podcasts can be very popular but surely a market can leave alone. Not going to sell on like other shows and punters can tolerate ads

I just played the game myself to see if this hysteria is justified. As expected, it's been wildly exaggerated by the DM, as usual, because in no way does it actually teach kids to promote open borders as they claim. The bit they've got themselves so apoplectic about is a tiny segment in a 'mission' that asks players to balance the pros and cons of using migrant labour to fill a shortfall. Having already decided if you want to increase immigration or secure the borders, this point in the game then asks if you want to deport some migrants already in the country or grant them amnesty to plug some employment gaps, and accurately points out that deportation could be dangerous for them and will be legally challenged. That's it. Nothing whatsoever to do with current UK policies and nobody is being brainwashed (except for the unthinking morons who blindly take Daily Mail headlines at face value, of course). 3

Play the game yourself. See for yourself. It's a total fucking non-story intended to provoke knee-jerk anger among people who can't/won't think for themselves. And you've fallen for it - hook, line and sinker. 2
revolution saint Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago This is the problem with the online world. You can't burn it. Back in the good old days we'd have a bonfire outside a library but wokeness and 'elf and safety stopped all that. TBF the headline about civil servants within the BBC is more concerning.

Yeah, I did laugh at the tories getting worked up when they would have known about it before this story broke (and probably instigated it). Regardless, it would be useful to have a bit more context because at face value it's not a good look for the BBC.

That's it. Nothing whatsoever to do with current UK policies and nobody is being brainwashed (except for the unthinking morons who blindly take Daily Mail headlines at face value, of course). In lockstep, or goose-step, with the mail front page, is an express article. Some quotes from other people, who I am completely sure have also played it:- Danny Cohen, a former controller of BBC television, called for an urgent investigation into the findings. "The BBC needs to explain why its educational website is pushing extreme Left-wing ideologies to schoolchildren," he said. "There is such a lack of balance in so many areas of the BBC's output that it cannot be seriously defended as coincidental." Former Tory Education Secretary Gavin Williamson MP said: "The mask has slipped and the BBC has yet again betrayed its rampant Left-wing political agenda. The state broadcaster brainwashing children using a homework game is like something from a North Korean re-education camp." Shadow Education Secretary Laura Trott has demanded that the BBC remove the game from its website, adding that it has a "duty to remain impartial" rather than to "push a Left-wing political agenda onto young children". Alex Burghart, Shadow Cabinet Office Secretary, said: "The BBC was set up to inform, educate and entertain - not misinform, re-educate and brainwash.", Some choice words there that I can enjoy before I undergo a "brainwash" by "something from a re-education camp" not to. The article then quotes the mail one "The instructions stated: "We don't have enough people of working age to keep our society running smoothly. We should try to attract migrant workers and incorporate them into our economy." Each option comes with a budget "cost" and once they have chosen, they find out the impacts on the economy, public health and the environment. In one scenario, students are told that "a few" immigrants are living here without proper visas or permission, and they can either deport them or grant them an amnesty. Those who choose deportation lose a point on economy and one on public health. They are also warned: "This can be potentially dangerous for them [the immigrants]. Don't expect this to be unchallenged!" Those who pick to grant an amnesty are told "this will make them very happy," and are rewarded with two points in the same categories. In a second scenario, it claims geography pupils are told that allowing people to pass through the border easily "could really help grow our economy". They are offered the option of "open borders," resulting in another three economy points and two public health ones, in contrast to voting no points for selecting the "too radical" option." Now you've played it Sheaf Saint. I'm not seeing any options for royal marines to use lethal force. That lacks the patriotism the likes of reform would be looking for. It also lacks the educational/ first person shooter crossover the Beeb are going to have to look at, as they become more commercial.

Appreciate media changes and podcasts can be very popular but surely a market can leave alone. Not going to sell on like other shows and punters can tolerate ads True crime podcasts continue to be very popular. The Beeb were really late into the cold case type of podcast. Now, since it seems all programmes are podcasts, they've looked for specific areas. Gangsters and the like are one of them. The Beeb, with all it's resources is much bigger than pretty much everyone else. I like to think that some of their tardiness into it, was due to them not wanting to clearly use public money to crush commercial opponents. But they were probably just decades behind the curve. I do listen to beeb podcasts. I'll listen getting to sleep, so endless ads for Indeed do get in the way. Since I watch little TV, I pretend I need a radio license and that I'm therefore getting good value. 🙂
AlexLaw76 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I just did the BBC and, inshallah, I no longer eat Pork
