Weston Saint Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Correct, he has one more game for us. Very professional win today. Every chance we will have Abbott again next season from what I have been told Tilak is looking to get in the Indian side. Came to us via Deli Capitals management (our owners) but my indide contact does not know if he will be back next season. Very unusual to have an Indian player over here. Club find it very difficult to get good overseas players because of franchise cricket 🏏
Andrew Watson Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Another terrific win, shout out to Joe Weatherly. It is a real shame and worry that Tom Prest can barely buy a run.

It was a silly way to get out too, all we needed was to keep it ticking at a run a ball and he chips one up to mid-off. It's just not going for him this season. 1
John B Posted August 12 Posted August 12 On 06/07/2025 at 18:33, Andrew Watson said: Why the hell did we sign Baker ? Threw game away in the end. Feel sorry for Vince and Dawson. Do you still have the samr opinion of him as I think he could make it on the Ashes tour this summer Captain Phil Salt compared 22-year-old fast bowler Sonny Baker to England great James Anderson after he shone in Manchester Originals' 10-run win over London Spirit at Old Trafford. Baker began Spirit's chase of 164 with five dots and conceded only four runs when asked to bowl the first 10 deliveries. He troubled two international greats in David Warner and Kane Williamson, who have a combined 38,000 international runs to their name, with swing and lively pace. That helped limit the Spirit's scoring and, despite Australian Warner hitting 71, the hosts, who left out Anderson after defeats in their opening two games, were always in control. Warner was caught down the leg side off England seamer Josh Tongue with 38 needed from 15 and Baker returned to dismiss Australia international Ashton Turner for 13 - a deserved reward for a fine spell that cost only 22 runs. "He was outstanding," Salt told Sky Sports. "Jimmy had a rest today but that is the closest to what he did, if not better. It will be hard to pick seamers for the next match." Anderson also praised the highly-rated Baker, who was awarded an England development contract earlier this year despite having never played a County Championship match at that stage. "I have seen a lot of footage of Baker but not seen a lot of him live," Anderson told Sky Sports. "I have been so impressed. "Tonight he bowled outstandingly well. He has got pace, skill, swings the ball both ways. He has a lot going for him." 1
Barsiem Posted August 12 Posted August 12 (edited) It's crazy how quickly some people write players off tbh.... I agree he could will end up fast tracked into the England squad, but he's still raw so I'd hope not tests just yet. Maybe T20s. With his pace though England will be all over him Hopefully he stays free of injuries and doesn't get derailed like Turner has in the last few years Edited August 12 by Barsiem 2
Andrew Watson Posted August 13 Posted August 13 Poor batting performance, Prest had a chance to atone for his wretched season so far and blew it yet again. [ I like him as a player, but why is he unable to play much longer innings ?].
Picard Posted August 13 Posted August 13 Worrying that Weatherly couldn't finish his innings with a hand injury.
Window Cleaner Posted August 14 Author Posted August 14 19 hours ago, Picard said: Worrying that Weatherly couldn't finish his innings with a hand injury. Ball seemed to hit him on the wrist. Other than that not much to be said about yesterday's game. Their seam quintet was too good for our batting and our bowling wasn't good enough to challenge them with such a faible total to defend. Quick'ish seam bowling does seem to present us with a problem on occasions. Not much spin to slog yesterday.
Weston Saint Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Wheal and Abbott back in the squad for tomorrow. Not surprising, no Weatherly 1

Window Cleaner Posted August 14 Author Posted August 14 Good news on the bowling front, batting looks short though. Hope there's no silly flashing from Orr. We need a big start, 100/0 sort of thing.
Barsiem Posted August 15 Posted August 15 (edited) Well that didn't take long! He's in the squad to play Ireland as well. I suspect he won't play against SA but will probably get a game against Ireland Edited August 15 by Barsiem 1

stevegrant Posted Monday at 11:18 Posted Monday at 11:18 At the Oval today for our game, can confirm Manny Lumsden is FAST! Decent bowling conditions, warm and muggy, and Surrey's lineup is pretty inexperienced - only Burns, Foakes and Green with any real pedigree. 1
Window Cleaner Posted Monday at 13:31 Author Posted Monday at 13:31 Bowled really well. Surrey batted really poorly, perhaps a result of aforesaid good bowling though.
Andrew Watson Posted Monday at 15:06 Posted Monday at 15:06 Lets hope we can stay in top 2 and if possible take top spot from Gloucestershire who we still have to play away. [ Have to beat Notts and Derbyshire as well which will not be easy.]
Window Cleaner Posted Monday at 15:53 Author Posted Monday at 15:53 Surrey don't seem to take this competition very seriously. Batting and bowling today public rec standard. If they're consistent about it I suppose it doesn't much matter. They had quite a good crowd in though today, bit of an affront to them to play so poorly.
Gloucester Saint Posted Monday at 17:37 Posted Monday at 17:37 Lovely stuff, will see if there’s clips of Manny Lumsden bowling online https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/articles/c1kzl1jz09ko

Picard Posted Wednesday at 09:56 Posted Wednesday at 09:56 Confirmed Weatherley has a broken arm and will be out for the rest of the season. 1
Andrew Watson Posted Wednesday at 10:51 Posted Wednesday at 10:51 Good start after being put in,such a shame Orr got himself in and failed to go on and get a big score.
Andrew Watson Posted Wednesday at 12:08 Posted Wednesday at 12:08 Throwing the game away, Prest really is a walking wicket, totally wasting his talent.
stevegrant Posted Wednesday at 13:33 Posted Wednesday at 13:33 Another Gubbins masterclass as we get to 290/7. His scores in this competition this year: 144*, 40, 60, 81, 87* and 144* averaging a frankly ludicrous 185.33 Spinners seemed to keep the score down in the middle overs, so hopefully Neal and Organ can replicate what their Notts counterparts managed - I think our seamers are better than theirs, so that could be the difference.
31cc Posted Wednesday at 13:34 Posted Wednesday at 13:34 'ampshire 290 -7, Gubbins 144 n.o. Reasonable score, or not enough?
Andrew Watson Posted Wednesday at 15:56 Posted Wednesday at 15:56 Notts have a strong top 6,probably why they prefer to chase. I texted Weston Saint who is at the game and said I thought we might need 325 plus, very sadly I think that might be proved right.

Seems that our seamers weren't better than theirs. Jack very expensive. Why no Fuller ? On another note Prest continues his train-wreck of a season.
