Last minute scramble against Wrexham and a nice goal in the first half at Ipswich.

Since then, over three and a half league games with no goals from open play.

Complete rubbish.

One enjoyable game of football in the league for 43 matches

(Ipswich A last season which was still mostly shit but enjoyable because of the result)

This is indeed a big concern and something that needs to be addressed. Presumably Will and his coaches will be working on it intensively in training this week.

Thought they might have tried it for the last two weeks!

The next block of games up until the International Break is where we need to see the impact of new additions.

Today in many ways was a weird game to judge anything, as Derby's are always odd games which never really play to the strengths of the 'better side'. But we should have been better.

If we're still 16th or wherever come the October International break then it's all gone catastrophically wrong and we're out of the race before it even started. But I don't think that will be the case. I think we've got good players for this level and the cream will rise once things settle down a bit.

We could have done with the Derby a few months in tbh.

I agree the derby was awful timing and has dominated the start of the season. Fucking glad it’s over to be honest. Hopefully we can all settle down now and get this season up and running.

Yep, if someone had said: "pick the worst date to play the first derby match" the 14th September would have been a prime candidate... First fixture after the transfer window with an international break thrown in for good measure.

Glad it's out of the way and we can now get into a normal routine for the upcoming games.

This. It was dross but we came away with a point and it won’t define our season. We need to get some momentum going before the gap starts to open too much but no need to panic just yet.

Today's game ironically when looking at fixtures was an easier game. An apparent crap team. Now we have relegation teams which are must win or Saints get stuck in bottom six, or top teams who are far better football outfits. Now back to the next game will kick start season. Just kick the ball towards the goal its not difficult every team does that task very well against us. Over complicating tactics rather than just playing basic football. End October is it possible to get a run of wins for 6th, another 20 games run.

I can’t help but feel somewhat pessimistic about where things will end up this season and the reason is that we’re still playing the same turgid football as we’ve done for 3-4 seasons now irrespective of manager. Yes there are new players to pin our hopes on, but will they really make a difference when they’re not part of the starting 11 and players that have been very mediocre in the past get picked to start? We’ll not be in the relegation zone obviously, but the playoffs look way off right now.

Yeah there's a real lack of inspiration,  if we were playing well but just failing to convert chances you could say we just need to click and it will be alright, but instead we look clueless throughout the pitch and it's really hard to see where the goals will come from, as Benjis post shows we seriously lack a goal threat from open play

Ot wasn't that "turgid" in 23/24 when we scored 87 goals. Defensively weak but not turgid.

That Martin side of 23/24 managed to score loads of goals whilst also missing loads of chances, Armstrong definitely benefited from having Adams alongside him , perhaps Aribo, Stuart Armstrong and Brooks were better at unpicking defences,  just need to find some balance to the team

Tend to agree with what you say.
On paper I think we have a squad that is equal to, or possibly better, than 2 years ago and a Manager who seems to be more flexible in his style of play than Russell Martin.
All that said, we havent been that impressive to date, apart from the 3-0 at Norwich.
I wonder if, like the Prem, the standard of teams in the Championship has improved.
