He was quality - best player on the pitch. Less than 2 years left on his contract. One year left by end of this season. Suspect he will use that to leverage a move away unfortunately as he is starting to look class

Excellent this evening - that is all.

Clearly not at the same level but reminded me a little of Bale for Wales in the way he thrived with the responsibility of being one of, if not the, main men in the team. Very ‘all action’ midfield performance. Hopefully we can unlock more of that in a saints shirt!

I’m hoping the club can make at least a 30% return on their investment on Charles - if they can then that’s a great outcome and we can all celebrate a superb bit of business.

Maybe I am getting old but it’s difficult to see us ever building a decent side under SR as if by chance we buy someone decent we sell and more often than not we buy crap/mediocrity which just adds to the doom loop we are in.

I just don’t see how we will ever build a side that can compete at PL level but perhaps that’s not really what SR are primarily concerned with.

The days of lower/mid table PL seem a very long way off now

It’s a very real issue. At this stage Charles is exactly the type of player we need to grow with us - selling him would more than likely mean we replace him with a lesser player…it is the way of Southampton FC unfortunately.

He was good, can't quite work it out but seem to 'notice' him more in the international games, feels like he's let off the leash a bit more and holds back a bit for us, probably tactical

He was very good against Derby too. MotM in my opinion. Maybe he is starting to grow into the season.

A guy who I play football with is a Wednesday fan and said he was their best player last season. We should be breaking the bank to sign him up for a contract extension (if he is open to it).

We need to be around the promotion picture by January and secure a contract extension. Otherwise he will be off and, right now, who can blame him?

Charles has been excellent most times he has played for Norn Iron (I didn't see the Germany game, I usually watch the games). We should be playing him the same Michael O'Neill does, much more of an attacking midfielder. Think he will be captain of NI in the future (already has been at least once), I suspect only his age is stopping him right now.

I watched that match with the nipper and staggered by how fluent and game Northern Ireland were, set up really well and gave the Germans a fright.  Had to look up their centre forward who looked better than anything we've currently got and found out he plays for Stevenage.

Good performance sham Saints cant play more direct through lines with pace etc.

Germany won't get passed QF if that,  terrible team none of the players are high quality and can cover if pulled out of position. Defence is championship level.
