Most people, outside of this forum, really don't give a toss about formation, just results and performance.

Results and performance are directly linked to the fact midfield is conceded every single game and free headers are regularly conceded with 3 CBs.

You know the point I was making. We had the best run of results in recent history playing 2 CBs. We brought Stephens back into the fold and started to play 3 CBs at the back and the results were much poorer. 

3 CBs has never really worked for Saints.

Yeah I know the point you were making. And the point I was making was it's not true. I just made mine with the facts.

Never really worked except for the only time we've actually won games in a row this season.

If you want to make more general point that isn't "the run came to an end when Stephens was shoehorned in" you're more than welcome to point to that evidence and I'll respond to that instead?

2 horrendous performances, but they’ll be some excuse for that I’m sure. It can’t be 4 at the back because that’s the answer to all our problems. With our full backs, playing 4 at the back would be suicidal and our attacking performance won’t better Charlton, Leicester, Birmingham or WBA either….

We also kept a clean sheet against Portsmouth. So you could claim that 50% of our matches with 2 CBs were clean sheets.

Given that formation appears irrelevant for some, time for TE to test that theory with the primary school 'everyone up top' ploy.

You may be right. You probably are. I was just commenting that getting a chant going about a formation is unlikely. I have never heard the people who sit near me, who are not shy of criticising just about every other aspect of the team and club, say "It's all down to playing 3 at the back".  But thank you for the, not-at-all patronising lesson in football tactics. I will bear it in mind at the next home game and will be chanting "Not 3 at the back" if we're not winning by at least 3 goals.

My original comment was that "I seem to remember the run came to an end when Captain Shoehorn became available". Your counter-evidence was that he was on the bench for the match when the run came to an end. So, you actually proved my point despite mis-quoting me.

Count me surprised when I just looked at the table and saw Watford, batshit crazy Watford, on their 3959395th manager of the season, in 4th.

Whilst we're languishing down in 15th.

The quality of the league this year is rubbish, there are no standout teams like there has been in the past. Yet we're somehow still contriving to be bottom half. No one can defend this, surely.

Being mid-table in this league is like being marooned in a cesspit of misery. It's a horrible existence of nothingness.  'The championship is a great league, it's fun' argument falls down the pan when it's like this. It's misery.

:D So did our run come to an end when we stopped play 2 CB's yeah?

Btw, when Stephens actually played as a 3rd CB/Left back in the next game - we got back to winning ways. Just FYI.

He’s banned from Atherley after Carbonaragate in 2010. Four made to measure Armani mini suits ruined.
