Disco Stu Posted September 17 Posted September 17 (edited) I've heard it pronounced both ways but presumably the club have asked the player how he wants it pronounced and they pronounce it the way he wants over the tannoy. Matsuki.mp4 Edited September 17 by Disco Stu 1

swedish dave Posted September 18 Posted September 18 OK guys , I stand corrected. After hearing the other pronunciation all last season, I began to react in the last few weeks hence my first post, and without realising the (now) obvious error. In my defence ..my Japanese is somewhat lacking - especially when confronted with silent letters. 1
CSA96 Posted September 24 Posted September 24 12 minutes into his first cap, pretty good going! Nice goal too 6

Saint NL Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Lovely finish. (Var should be chalking that off for the offside fella interfering with play) 2
Football Special Posted September 24 Posted September 24 I know Saints are already well known / liked in Japan thanks for our many years association with Yoshida, nice to have another connection now, he's a great lad Matsuki 3

Played 3 full internationals and 2 friendlies whilst a Saints player. If you think some of England's games are a bit one sided; He scored once in their 14-0 demolition of Mongolia. Scored two in the 10-0 hiding they gave to Myanmar, and another in the 4-1 win over Tajikistan. Sugawara was playing for Japan as well while he was here Edited September 24 by Patches O Houlihan

Disco Stu Posted Monday at 12:02 Posted Monday at 12:02 Matsuki not in the match day squad for today's game. Hopefully that's by design.

In these friendlies doesn't the whole squad usually make up the team and the bench? No one actually gets omitted? Anyone else from squad announcement not in the match day squad?
Football Special Posted Monday at 17:26 Posted Monday at 17:26 Just checked. They have a massive 31 man squad for these games so makes sense not all would be included. Today's game had starting 11 and 15 on the bench so 5 players missed out 1

It's effectively a silent 'u'. Yosh was taking the piss when he introduced him. Right from his first touches when he came on as a sub early last year, he seldom missed pass and looked assured on the ball. The main criticism initially was that he was a bit lightweight and pushed off the ball easily, but that's not the case anymore. He's turning in to a really good player. As an aside, there's a Japanese youtuber called Oompa Loompa who basically mimics football coaches and players. He's been spotted at St Marys and he's a big fan of Matsuki and been giving him a lot of publicity which hasn't done any harm to Matsuki's cause.
