The mini league

Not that I'm feeling positive or anything! but i suudenly realised how much two home wins could change the momentum of our season!! With Forest losing 2-0 at this very moment and Plymouth in free fall, two wins will put us right back in mix!!!

If our players realise their destiny is still very much in their own hands, we have a more than realistic chance of surviving!! If Forest and Plymouth do lose today and the unthinkable happens and we win, they will not like the feeling of looking over their shoulder!!

For one day only, I am wholeheartedly supporting Wotte et al in the hope that we pick up the essential three points!!!

Good shout Thorpie lets hope the lads actually pull this one out of the bag ... Preston havent lost in 9 games or so though :-s

if the shoe was on the other foot (Preston NOT winning in 9),I`d be more worried !

and remember,we broke Readings fabulous Championship home record earlier this season..

Our goal difference sucks + we wont win again for weeks now.....lets not get carried away. we are still sh1t!

Yes but the others are all sh1t too. As the original poster says, another win and we'll be right back in the mix. There's too much defeatism on this board.

Reading this thread has made me realise what a lottery this league really is. I mean, I know it's tight but I can't believe nobody has really bought this subject up before. We should have had a thread at the start of the season highlighting who's in and out of the relegation battle on a week to week basis. It would have been interesting to see just how quickly things can change. I can just imagine it now....this week "Oooooh we'll survie", next week "sh!t we're doomed", the week after "blimey this is close" etc.

Could I suggest that the mods make this a sticky so we can follow Saints and other fellow strugglers problems from now on?

teams well and truely in the mix (imo)

saints

charlton

forest

plymouth

norwich

blackpool

watford

barnsley

imo

Plymouth

forest

charlton

will go down in that order...

I think watford and barnsley have enough to stay up..

Imagine the pressure going to forest on the last day of the season needing a win to stay up...?

also, we have to play charlton at home which we would simply have to win...we also have palace at home who are nothing special what so ever...throw in wednesday and blackpool away we have a very good chance to get some important points...

and our game in hand....watford away (can only see a defeat there imo)

An excellent idea Thorpie! I am surprised that none of the admin/mods on this site thought about this idea before or made it a sticky anyway. It is this sort of thread that makes me want to keep reading this board, not the constant "who is to blame for us being sh*t" thread that seem to populate this place.

Good thread and I look forward to following it eagerly! Hopefully as a sticky!!

Gphjwill or whatever his name is was running one of these every week. It was quite interesting, not least because some names have disappeared totally off the radar (Doncaster) whilst others slipped away for a bit but are now right back in it (Barnsley).

My gut feel is that Charlton have got too much to do, so it will be 2 from us, Norwich, Plymouth & Forest.

Norwich have constantly bobbed aroung the 20th place and have never shown any signs of pulling away. They'll be right in it at the end.

Forest had a mini revival in Dec/Jan after they beat us, but have not managed to pull away.

Although Plymouth have 5/6 points on us, their form ober the last few months is shocking and they have dropped from 7th after about 20 games (they were even in the play off spots at one point) to be in the relegation battle. A slide like that causes problems.

Still not in our hands, but we are certainly not in Charlton's position.

Thanks!! i just need to attach it to all my posts now!!

seriously, I think the comments on here last night and this morning have proved how much behind the team we are!! finally the players seem to be realising it as well!! We need to beat Cardiff now, but if we sweat blood next sat and come up short, it will still be a big improvement!!

I agree that it will be a much tougher ask than Preston and arguably a point is probably on the cards and would be a good result IMHO.

Preston don't travel well and have only won 3 on their travels and lost 8 (it's their 12 wins at home that have put them up the top end of the table).

However, Cardiff have only lost twice away, but they have drawn 9 so I would be happy to make it 10.

Completely agree. It's getting like a 4 or 5 team lottery down there now. Shame we haven't been tracking this all season. Fully in support of this becoming a sticky as we enter the "squaky bum time" of the end of season run-in.

I agree with the lottery analogy that 'jawillwill' came up with. It is so tight down the bottom that we may as well just decide relegation on a scratchcard! Lol!

In all seriousness, this is a great idea for a thread. We should update each week as to who is in and out of the relegation lottery. I imagine with it being so tight, things will change really quickly from week to week. As thedelldays said, perhaps 6 points out of the next 15 could be enough to rise out of it!

Current lottery mini league contenders:

Saints

Charlton

Forest

Plymouth

Norwich

Blackpool

Watford

Barnsley

STICKY PLEASE MODS!

It's not a lottery because lotteries are about luck. If we pull it together it will be through a solid defence, hard work, good management - maybe Wotte can do that after all - and hard work. Luck doesn't enter into it.

Agree with the hard work ethic, i would still prefer to have lady luck in our corner!!

i do wonder who is the most worried tonight!!! Luggy must be slightly concerned i would have thought!!

Though bad, we turned the goal difference around by 4 goals today. A couple of similar days will see us catch and pass our relegation threatened opponents with our goal difference improving.

Hope springs eternal if we can beat Cardiff.

WIth Cardiff playing Sunday, Wednesday and Saturday we may have a better chance this weekend.

Plymouth have a tough game at Wolves and Blackpool will continue to drop against Bristol City.

Forest take on a practically unbeatable at home Reading. And Norwich v Cov could go either way.

This could be the weekend when we get the bonus ball.

Right the table will look like this in my opinion on sat:

24 Charlton 26 points

23 Saints 34 points

22 N forest 34 points

21 Plymouth 36 points

20 Norwich 36 points

19 Barnsley 37 points

18 Blackpool 37 points

I have actually been unbiased in my opinion, so how good would this look on sat if all these results came in!!

( i owed it to my thread to put predictions here also, ha ah!

If that happens, all of a sudden it all looks much tighter. I can't see Charlton making up a 10/11 point gap in the 12 or so games left, so they have all but gone. However, any of the rest could take the remaining 2 relegation places.
