For me his best game in a Saints shirt today. Superb going forward, and some brilliant crosses. Not a huge amount to do defensively but what needed to be done he did it well, and a superb goal line clearance when we were hanging on a bit near the end. Well done young man!

I went to reading and todays game and thought he was fairly average today think he was better at reading.

Today he had little to do in the first half and second half he did what he had to but lost his 'brains' near the end as did the whole team apart from Rudi, just lumping the ball up field rather than passing the ball and trying to take control again. James has to be one of the most improved players over the season.

I'm still not convinced by his defensive abilities but he did a good job today. He got forward well and put some cracking balls into the box. On the whole, James has been decent for us this season when you consider that he's playing out of position, and some of the stick he gets is unjust IMO. He's definitely better in midfield than defence, but we don't have any alternatives for RB at the minute.

I just like the fact that James has played fairly solidly all season at right back give or take a few poor games when he is actually a midfielder. He doesn't appear to have kicked up a fuss by being played out of position and wants to play for the team from what i have seen, i like him even if he isn't our greatest performer.

what people should realise is he's a young player learning his trade, he has a good temperament, usually plays midfield. sorry but since andy gray everyone is a coach now.

watching replay after replay doesnt mean its easy out there on the pitch, things are done in a second, i thought we were great and was proud of all of of the players and celebrated with a few pints, mind you you i do anyway.

There was an entertaining patch in the second half when he had three or four crosses in a row straight into the box - rather poor on Preston's part to make sure it kept coming back out to him!

Last season the nipper would run right round the perimeter of Staplewood to watch him take corners, keen to learn - wonder what he thought seeing this little head pop up over the fence every time?

I have been watching him through the academy and reserves and he is a very average player - slow and cannot tackle but his crossing I think is good quality. His passing is below par and he gives the ball away far too often when not under pressure only surpassed by Gillet.

However after having a 10 metre head start and ending 10 metres behind the Bristol player last week in only 30 metres he had a better game yesterday

Agreed. Some of his crosses today were undefendable.

Thought he had an excellent game

FFS, what are you lot on, he launches a load of crosses into the six yd box from 30yds out, what the centre backs didn't clear, the goalkeeper caught. We didn't create a thing from his crosses.

He needs two things to make him effective, a couple of Saints players to come out to him, and to keep running playing one two's to get to the byeline and cross back across the box, then he would be a handfull.

I have watched him throughout his career in the reserves, and he is a decent enough midfield player who can deliver a better than average ball into the box.He really has been thrown into the deep end this season as he is'nt the quickest, his defensive positional sense isnt great which if he had any would make up for his lack of pace, and he has had little/no back - up from anyone playing in front of him.To his credit however he has hung in there, never moaned ,always given 100%,and slowly improved as the season has progressed. For that he deserves an awful lot of credit .

I was in Block Four with a very clear view of his clearance. The ball was heading straight for goal. How Lloyd managed to get to the ball and flick it sideways inches off the line was quite awesome skill. Well done.

Glad you cleared that up cos I wasn't sure when they showed it on The Championship this morning that it was definitely going in.

He really is growing into the RB role. I think he's been one of our better and more consistent players for some time now. Knows when to get forward and when to stay back. His deliveries into the box from the wing is probably the best we've seen all season and it certainly helped that we had Euell up front on Saturday because we benefitted when those crosses were knocked down.

For those not there on Saturday, he ran not only the RB slot but also the RM vs Preston, in the first half at least, because our midfield (Lallana in particular) were so narrow. Great engine.

Still lacks pace though which shows him up against some of the quicker more skilful players - gladly there aint too many of them in the CCC.

Remember him being excellent at Reading. Anyone been to both games who could comment. Sounds like he's improving, but when I saw him for the reserves a few months back he looked best in midfield still.

he has a good first touch and composure on the ball typical of a centre midfielder, but nothing has changed there in recent times. He still has a lot to learn and in my opinion his lack of pace and very poor heading ability leave him exposed. Preston offered absolutely nothing out wide so he was not tested at all on Saturday. I don't think that game is a faor measure of his progression, but I do think he has improved positionally. He certainly covers round much better now thats for sure.

He also does cross a very good ball but too often it is from deep. It worked on Saturday but it doesn't always. As good as Saturdays result was don't let that game disguise that we have a midfielder doing his best at right midfield.
