silversaint Posted 18 April, 2009 Share Posted 18 April, 2009 Just back from the game and as much as I hate to say it today was one of the worst performances I have ever seen in my 23 years following saints. From the off we didn't have any passion and were beaten by a VERY average team. The players looked like they knew relegation was looming and the only players who showed any passion were Wotton SIZE and Kelv. I felt too embaressed to boo or clap at the end. Although staying up is still possible I feel we need to be realistic and try and keep hold of certain players for next year. Despite his screamer last week McGoldrick looked absolutely awful and well off the pace, i don't think he completed one pass. Today was horrific to watch for the fans who made the journey, and unfortunately I can't see it getting any better until next season at best. But today as on other Saturdays a good performance has been followed by a poor one. I totally agree - this bunch don't seem to care, the only problem I have is that we've now played the "kids" who were supposed to be the ones who gave a damn, who else is there? Next season we are going to either rely on whoever we can drag out of our current reserves as any half decent players we do have will be off (no great loss agreed) or league one journeymen - who wont care at all as they know they will be surplus to requirements come the end of a successful season (again, it is understood this is far from a given!). I suppose at the beginning of next season we should just be grateful if we still have a club to support.
Saint Fen Posted 18 April, 2009 Share Posted 18 April, 2009 Just got back and it was absolutely shocking, we look so bad and there is no positive to take from todays game. No fighting spirt, nothing up front and an awful midfield. Whatever league we are in next season (League 1 99.99% I'm sure) we will need plenty of new faces. forever a red and white Posted 18 April, 2009 Share Posted 18 April, 2009 i went it was not good to say the least. The only outfield player of any note that played alright was McGoldrick. Very disapointing, we were desperate for the points Wednesday didn't need them, but judged on the performance u would think they were the team at the bottom they way they fought for the points. I know that there are people on this forum who seem to have a problem accepting where the blame lays but there is only really one place for the blame and that is Lowe. He will forever have a place in the history of this once great club ( I have been a supporter for 55 years) as the bloke who brought the club to it's lowest ever point. We will rise from the ashes but never again must someone like Lowe be allowed to occupy such a position of power. I could spend hours going into why he was such a disaster but it has been said many times before on this forum. Please God he is gone forever but true Saints fans remain and we will continue to get this club back on it's feet. It might take time and there is no doubt now that we are relegated but we will return in due course and with luck we will be stronger and will learn from the catalogue of mistakes and mismanagement of recent years. Finally many congratulations to Leicester City and especially Nigel Pearson. But for Lowe this talented and charismatic manager would have stayed with us. CLOTH EARS Posted 18 April, 2009 Share Posted 18 April, 2009 The fact is the players are not good enough, but if you are crap and you aint trying very hard then you have not got a ****ing hope! To go down without a fight is totally acceptable!!! Quite evidently a TOTAL clear out is required as the current manager and players would be incapable of mounting a promotion push in League One ( thats assuming the club are around long enough to play in League One ). I find myself simultaneously in total agreement and yet somehow not entirely convinced by the above . The fact that is was an monumental error letting Pearson go is accepted by almost everyone on here (the odd troll or idiot aside) but I just can't see that Rupert Lowe and Nigel Pearson would ever have worked in the long term . Pearson would never have accepted the degree of interference in squad selection and management the Dutch clowns have tolerated this season , nor would Lowe have been happy dealing with a strong character like Pearson (the Strachan days are long gone now ) . As soon as we hit the inevitable bad patch RL would have used that opportunity to sack Pearson and justified it by stating he was never his choice in the first place . With hindsight Nigel Pearson was better off out of it . Whatever the manifest shortcomings of this seasons squad and Wotte & Poortvleit it all goes back to Lowe in the final analysis . He couldn't get the big decisions right because fundamentally he's the wrong type of personality to be running a football club . It's as simple as that really . It all comes back to Lowe eventually. Pearson may well have seen what would happen and may not have needed too hard a push. I suspect that Lowe said to him "This is how it will be" (kids, interference, no money etc) and Pearson would have given him a straight answer (You must be joking!). It then all proceeded from there. Pearson would have been right and Lowe completely wrong yet again.

Alan56 Posted 19 April, 2009 Share Posted 19 April, 2009 Over the 40+ years I have followed Saints I witnessed some crap. Yesterday was without doubt the worst. We now get what we deserve. We are the worst team in the league, the most badly managed and oddly enough one of the most unlucky too!! For some years I have questioned just what the hell the management team do in training. Yesterday not one of the three or four corners we got cleared the first man. This has been happenning for some years. Set pieces in the main are wasted, corners never defended. All matters that can and should be addressed on the training ground. The attitude of some out there yesterday stank. We know who they were and I trust that will be reflected next week. What we see are young ****y kids lauding it around the cities night clubs, beating up fans or thieving from those less well off than them. Those fans??? that chant the song about that scum BWP thieving from skates need to take a long hard look at themselves. By doing this what does a young thick footballer think?? Oh I am a hero, when in reality he is a moronic, thick, pig ignorant, ungifted, over paid football player. As I reflect on what happened yesterday and know deep down it has been coming for a while, I feel nothing but total alienation form the club I have supported since the mid 60's. saintalan Posted 19 April, 2009 Share Posted 19 April, 2009 What ever happened to players playing for pride in the shirt? Unfortunately more of them prefer to stand with their back to the crowd pointing to the name on the back of the shirt rather than facing them grabbing the shirt at the heart! Wherever we are next season I hope we can find a few of the latter. Alan
Barney Trubble Posted 19 April, 2009 Share Posted 19 April, 2009 I've witnessed some utter crap watching Saints throughout the years but considering our predicament that's got to be one of the most toothless I've seen for a long time. Mistake after mistake, players unable to do the most basic traits of a footballer - such as communication. I'm no longer ashamed to say that I left with five minutes of the game left, I'm no plastic but the truth is that I just couldn't take anymore, it was hurtful and a total waste of time and money.
