Bailey Posted 1 May, 2009 Share Posted 1 May, 2009 (edited) http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11688_5263240,00.html As it says on the tin. Serious respect to the guy. To make a comeback from his initial injury is a phenomenal achievement, and it's just a shame he couldn't maintain his fitness this season as we really could have done with him at times! Not surprising that he's had to call it a day though in truth. Killer is a Saint through and through and I wish him all the best. I'd like to see him remain on the coaching staff, but new owners and a new manager may prevent that from happening. EDIT - Have changed the title after Svensson denies he's retired. SuperMikey Posted 1 May, 2009 Share Posted 1 May, 2009 Shame, he worked so hard for so long on returning to fitness but it never really paid off. I still believe that he's one of the best defenders ever to wear the shirt. Hope he stays at the club, he's got a lot of experience to pass on to the youngsters that they will certainly need next season.

It's a shame that he created the illusion that he would be fit and ready to go last summer. If he hadn't we might have got a central defender in last July and avoided all the tossing about with Lancashire,Pearce and eventually Cork who could have played midfield instead. No blame on Svensson really but his purporting to be an effective player sold us down the river when we didn't need that. Against Blackpool he was atrocious, he cost us that match . When you're finished you're finished no point in hanging on for dear life because you desperately want to try to play again.

Ever since relegation the club has appeared to switch between banking MS or banking on Claus getting fit again and somehow becoming the heart of our defence and each season it didn't happen. You'd think the lesson would have learned the first time...
Saint Fan CaM Posted 1 May, 2009 Share Posted 1 May, 2009 Fair play to the bloke. Great player once, but looked crocked when he played latterly. I don't think he'll be in any incoming regimes plans and I think he knows that, hence the comment about going home - he's made himself available. Good luck Killer. Fozzybear Posted 1 May, 2009 Share Posted 1 May, 2009 An absolute legend...... but its about time. We were living for so long in the false hope of his return from injury. When he knackered his knee the first time coincided with the clubs downturn in fortunes. That was a black day for the club. Wish him all the luck for the future, and hope that it involves staying with the club as a backroom coach.

Saintjersey Posted 1 May, 2009 Share Posted 1 May, 2009 Cheers Killer, you are a legend in my eyes. You helped turn our defence to one of the best in the Premiership. All the best for the future, hopefully you can stay on in some aspect with the club.

There are thousands of fans out there who would love to play for their team and maybe even earn a few bob at it while living that dream. Most of us however have to settle by feeding that dream while attending matches. If I had been able to live that dream, to play for Saints (meh! in my effin' dreams more like!) then when injury came to call I'd fight it tooth and nail and I would hang on in there. Maybe dumbly dreaming that I could pull on a fresh red & white striped shirt, to lace my boots and walk out on that pitch again. To play again for my team. Yup! I'd desperately hang on to that dream. I'd lose sight of the grim reality. Thanks Killer, for what you did do for us.

The day I have to hang up my astro-turf trainers & stop wearing my Saints shirt while doing so I know it will be a very sad one. I know it will hard for me to take and I'll fight it to the end and I only play in kickabouts! So if i was a professional footballer playing for a team I have a real passion for...well it would take more than a specialist knee reconstructor (made up job title) to tell me to quit.
