PS4 or XBOX One

Batman

I have been a sony fanboy all my life, but since moving to Canada earlier this year and having more money than I know what to do with {where I purchased both consoles} I can honestly say that I prefer the XboxOne. It looks better with the menus and all, the games seem easier to play and I for one enjoy the kinect connectivity etc.

I like this. But I'd dispute the "Every game" claim.

I said pretty much. Virtually every console and most arcade games that I can find. It's missing a few ps2 and gamecube I think but most others are on there. If you want to give a suggestion for something not on there I'll have a look and let you know :)

Fair play, Hypo. That is a nice machine. I was in a retro arcade pub last night. Was a good spot. I played Tron on a beautifully bespoke and well maintained machine. Got a bit of R - type in too. Alas, was a bit drunk and failed the memory test.

Someone was selling it on eBay. EBay cancelled the auction but luckily I had already messaged the seller. Drove down to Swindon and picked it up a few weeks ago.

What's it called? Did you have to put the games on yourself?

Do you have Fire Ant from the Commodore c4 plus 4?

Thinking of creating a games room in the spare room.

2 minds whether to stick with PS4 or go for XboX one

Unless you're going to be watching an awful lot of TV in your games room and love Kinect it's an easy answer, PS4.

They are about the same on price if you shop around, there'll be some decent deals for both coming up to Christmas.

Just bear in mind that a lot of the Xbone deals only include digital copies of the game, whereas PS4 bundles include physical copies of the game, worth noting.

I know. Sony must be incredibly P'd off with those numbers.

Sony paid for exclusive advertising rights (Microsoft weren't allowed to admit the game was even coming to the platform it seems). Sony paid for timed Exclusive content. They have a reportedly massive lead on Xbox One. A percentage lead that would surely mean they should have had a bigger percentage than 46% to 36%. or roughly 4 copies sold on Xbox One for every 5 copies sold on PS4.

Why were sony players avoiding the game?

Then add the fact that the game sold 14% on Xbox 360, and 4% on PS3. Thats a total of 50% on Sony and 50% on Xbox.

Can Sony afford to spend money so unwisely on exclusivity deals?

Some of this is just laughable

Sony is actually incredibly pleased with those numbers, a current-gen, FPS, Bungie developed game selling better on PS4! Pretty amazing stuff I'd say.

Both console manufacturers enter into these 'exclusive marketing partner' agreements all the time, it's nothing new, it's why you'll see a M$ logo after a CoD, FIFA or Assassin's Creed Unity advert on tv this year and see a PS4 logo on Destiny and Far Cry 4.

Also, M$ were allowed to say Destiny is coming to XB1, they put in their E3 and GamesCom presentations showing what games they had to come for the rest of the year, just how Sony are allowed to say CoD, AC:U and FIFA are coming to PS4.

'Can Sony afford to spend money so unwisely on exclusivity deals?'

What does this even mean?!?!?! :mcinnes: of course Sony can afford to pretty much do whatever they like, they are an absolutely massive corporation with 10s of thousands of employees and a revenue stream that is more substantial than some Eastern European countries. As I said above, the exclusivity deal for Destiny was and is nothing new, it happens ALL the time, it's why you see an Xbox One logo at the end of FIFA, CoD and AC:Unity adverts and why you'll see a PS4 logo at the end of Destiny and Far Cry 4 adverts, it's just business, publishers like to have a marketing partner on AAA games to try and negate some of the marketing costs involved.

Anyway, the only stat that matters it there's 11.4 million PS4's out there, and only 5.8 million Xbones

1. Vgchartz is inaccurate and untrustworthy. They are so bad even Neogaf have banned reference to Vgchartz numbers on their site. ( http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=427771)

2.npd showed destiny on xbox one sold more physical than on ps4. You're telling me Sony are happy with that?

Neogaf bans a variety of sites for a variety of different reasons, doesn't mean VGChartz is inaccurate.

A variety of industry analysts (like Michael Pachter for example) say VGChartz is pretty accurate with its numbers most of the time, Forbes, Fortune, The New York Post and New York Times have all referenced the site at one time or another.

With your 2nd point, you're talking out your arse I'm afraid:

http://www.dualshockers.com/2014/10/16/ps4-wins-september-according-to-the-npd-dominates-destiny-sales/

I'm not sure if you're aware of this or not, but the NPD group ONLY tracks sales numbers in the United States, and the numbers included in their data ONLY tracks physical sales of the game, there is NO way to know what the digital sales of Destiny were for either console.

As always, it’s important to keep in mind that the NPD report only represents a fraction of the overall gaming industry. These figures only include new physical games sold at U.S. retailers. That means no used software and no figures on spending for digital or mobile games or in-game purchases.

At least we can agree that The Evil Within is a decent game!

There's no doubt that including digital and bundles destiny sold better on ps4. But the fact stays. If you only include US physical disk sales. It did better on xbox one

"The list of top-selling games below only accounts for new, physical copies. You'll notice it shows Destiny sold better on Xbox One than it did on PS4,"

True, means little really though when you look at the worldwide figures.

Just proves that Americans still love their all-American Box is all, and that the rest of the world still prefers PlayStation...

Just looking up these figures and statistics has made me how pathetic and irrelevent this debate is really though

Yeah, got a feeling that's Clyney's Xbone.

I thought Legends mode was just a FUT thing anyway?

When FIFA 15 came out I think it was just Harrison Reed and Clyney that got their copies on Xbone, everyone else got it on PS4.

Intrigued how he has done that seeing as the console is not plugged in.

Only if you believe that something very hot immediately becomes very cold when a power cable is removed.

Hasn't been my experience with electronics. The chassis retains heat for quite a while, as anyone that has ever had an overheating laptop will know.

Looking forward to seeing the Ps4 video as that runs hotter than the one.

Honestly, Nolan, this is just moronic fanboyism now, who honestly gives a f**k which console runs hotter?

pap was only having some banter pal, when the PS3 launched I posted sh!t-tons of Ken Kuturagi BBQ photos all over the web and lolled my tits off, it's funny to laugh at sh!t man, chill out.

I'm pretty close to getting an XBox One myself. There are enough exclusives on it that I want to play now, and more are coming. I fancy both the Forza games, and Sunset Horizon is getting a lot of love from the specialist gaming press too.

There's Fable to look forward to as well.

But yeah, Nolan. Chill. Get yourself a PS4 and love 'em all.

There is absolutely no reason to get a ps4 yet.

I'll wait until the Order and Bloodborne to consider it, but they're competing with multi plats like the witcher 3, a new rocksteady Batman, dying light, resident evil revelations 2 and project cars in that release window, so there may be other stuff to grab my attention.

Disagree, sir. Here's why.

1) Better experience on multi-platform titles, due to the extra oomph that the PS4 can deliver. 1080p almost comes as standard. I think I've got one game which dips below that.

2) You might have friends on Playstation. I'll certainly be looking forward to seeing my old XBox friends list; some people just aren't on PS4 yet.

3) Tons of freebies for all Playstation consoles if you sign up to PSN Plus, £40 notes a year. I know MS does this too.

There are all kinds of reasons to own multiple consoles. The most important is the software you can run on it. I've not seen a truly triple AAA exclusive title on the PS4 yet. inFamous Second Sun was enjoyable, but there it ends. The best exclusive stuff on the PS4 at the moment is remastered ast gen games, and the XBox One is leading the charge on exclusive next-gen stuff.

That said, most stuff isn't exclusive - and is out on both consoles, so for the vast majority of all games released in the next few years, you'll have a better time on PS4. Why have hamburger when steak is available?

We've got both in our house. I went with the Xbox One, my housemate the PS4. We as a house play the Xbox far more, in terms of software and features the Xbox wins hands down. The difference in graphics is minimal, we could barely tell the difference and there seems to be more exclusives on Xbox too. In conclusion, Xbox edges it.

It is weird that Evolve, Witcher 3, The Order 1886 and Bloodborne are all coming out in February, that's going to be one CRAZY month!

Personally, as a massive Souls fan I'm prioritising Bloodborne over everything else for that month, I'm seriously hyped for Witcher 3, Evolve, Dying Light (which comes out at the end of January) and The Order 1886 as well but it is Bloodborne that i'm most looking forward to on a personal level, if you're not into the Souls series I can see why it won't be everyone's cup of tea.

Batman:AK doesn't come out until June though, so I wouldn't worry about that clashing.

Disagree, and your logic is flawed here as well, just because you moved your XBone into a communal room so you can all play FIFA/CoD whereas your friend with a PS4 wanted to keep it in his room proves nothing, neither does your 'conclusion'. No definitive conclusions can be made until the end of the of the console generation, just opinions.

The only thing definitive we can say at this stage is that the PS4 has had a fantastic year since release and the XB1 is quite far behind, thats about it, only a year in of a possible 7-8 year console generation, it's a marathon not a sprint.

It's all largely subjective at this time anyway, M$ have reversed a lot of the XBones lack of features, rectified some of the menu/software problems and policy decisions and dropped the price significantly to keep up with the PS4 sales wise, and ultimately try to regain parity.

I care little for anything but playing games on my console, so the PS4 is perfect for me, I can install a game, see it in a bright square on my PS4 Dashboard and play it within 5 minutes, with my XBone this whole process would take AT LEAST 30 minutes, I love the snappiness of the PS4 and the no-nonsense approach to the dash, it's big, it's bold and it's extremely easy to use, navigate and find everything you want, pretty much the exact opposite of my experiences with the XB1 dashboard.

If you've got kids, or are using the TV features etc. or have a family then the XB1 may be a better option.

I've got all 3 current-gen consoles anyway so I get the best of all worlds so it doesn't really matter to me, I buy all third-party games on PS4 because I prefer the experience on there and Dualshock 4 to the XB1 controller, but buy and play all XB1 and Wii U exclusives on those consoles, I bought and played Forza Horizon 2 in September and loved it, I'll be getting Sunset Overdrive for Xmas and trying that out as well.

"PlayStation 4 has had a great year. But PlayStation 4 owners haven't, not really. We've done our part: bought the machines in good faith and persuaded ourselves that those extra frames per second, those extra lines of resolution, are really worth it. It's getting hard to keep that up. The PS4 must be the most successful console without a killer app there's ever been, but its momentum can't last forever, its feelgood factor has worn off, and its opponent has got its act together. Sony - and all your partners - it's over to you."

  • 3 weeks later...

Got a PS4 last weekend bundled with AC Unity, which is OK. Bought Shadow of Mordor also in the week. Just starting on a bit of Uruk-hai slaying now. Never had an X Box so cannot compare any of them with the previous Sony consoles I've owned PS, PS2, PS3 and now PS4 have done pretty much everything I've ever wanted from a games console. I might have missed a few exclusives on the other side but I've also had the benefit of the Uncharted series which have given me the most enjoyable gaming experiences I have had. Don't do online, too old/slow and can't be arsed to learn maps etc.
