  1. Adams isn't a decent striker, though. A potential £22m for him is an insane amount to turn down. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
  2. I don't even know who our 4th choice right back is, but there's no way in the world a team 3 points behind us would be weighing up a potential £12m deal with a view to him taking over the number two shirt next season. As a short term loan to cover Cedric and possibly Bertrand (although he's very one footed) the move has some merit, though. Having said that, if/when we reach a the safety mark, I'd rather the manager was giving game time to Vokins and Valery rather than someone else's player. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
  3. We're surely not signing Spurs' fourth choice right back to be our starting right back, are we? Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
  4. Wrong. The mid season break was conceived and agreed by the Premier League, the FA and the EFL in cooperation. "This is a significant moment for English football and one that we believe will greatly benefit both club and country," Martin Glenn, FA chief executive, said. "It's no secret that we have a very congested fixture calendar and over recent years we have been working with the whole game to find a solution. "Today's announcement proves that football can come together for the good of the game. We have also found a way to give the players a much-needed mid-season break, whilst keeping the much-loved Christmas schedule in place. "As we head into summer international tournaments in the future we are sure that this mid-season break will prove to be a valuable addition for our players." That the FA are backtracking on their commitment is, I think, a justifiable cause for grumbling from Klopp and others who have planned their players' workloads around a supposedly etched-in-stone break "for the players". We should be the most ticked off, though. Of the clubs having their break cut short, it's Saints who are the most affected, going from 14 to 10 days between fixtures. 5. The Premier League ordered all clubs to respect the winter break and not organise any games during their time off - the whole point of it coming in is to protect the players' welfare. For the FA to then organise fixtures during the break - to hell with the players'welfare - is far more arrogant than Klopp following the rules they all agreed to. The winter break was inked in a year ago. The FA have had all that time to plan their flagship competition in a competent manner, accomodating these changes. That they haven't is both ridiculous and utterly predictable. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
  6. You don't have to think. He played CB against Fulham and was fine - kept a clean sheet - and CB away to City a few days after the 0-9 and wasn't notably awful in a somewhat creditable 3-1 loss. Or you could watch any of his previous games at CB for Augsburg, when they weren't conceding ten goals a week. He's a decent young centre back who has had no chance to settle in to a new club in his proper position due to the absolute state of the team in the first third of the season. Unfortunately for him, his role in the squad now is as a sacrificial lamb, plugging the gaps in our poorly balanced squad. It's not a loan that has worked out for either player on club so far, but that's the way it goes sometimes. It doesn't make him a write off as a footballer. Danny Ings' loan last season wasn't exactly a raging success either. It's a pity for the kid, but I wouldn't be surprised if he goes on to have a good career. He certainly doesn't deserve the dog's abuse he's been getting for essentially answering the call to whatever hospital pass the manager has given him. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
  7. It's bizarre how much of a well oiled machine we are on the road while we continue to struggle to find the right set up at home. Spurs are killing us in transition. Just like Wolves did. And West Ham before them. It's only a matter of time before they make one of their breaks count. Not sure Obafemi is contributing much. Perhaps get Romeu on to sit in a midfield three and allow the wingers to push higher in support of Ings. Game's still there for the winning - thanks, Gunny - but not if we carry on on the same path. 8. Seem to recall the last striker we signed who couldn't get a game at Monaco wasn't a raging success... That said, he couldn't be worse than Adams, could he? Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
  9. Sell Vestergaard, replace him with Kristoffer Ajer at Celtic, paid for with Forster or Elyounoussi, kill multiple birds with one stone. Deadwood out, quality replacement in, no money spent, £15m-18m into the kitty. Everyone wins. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
  10. Bednarek is our second slowest CB behind striken oil tanker Vestergaard. He was hopeless against Wolves. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
  11. Redmond created our only two other chances from open play - missed by Cedric and Long respectively - and hit the bar. He played pretty well in an otherwise poor team performance. His form hasn't been great this season, but I don't know why anyone would be on his case for yesterday's effort. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
  12. It's been three years (and counting) since we got 40 points. Define reactionary. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
  13. Funny game - don't think we've played well at all, but two-up is not to be sneezed at. Jiminez has missed a couple, though. Fingers crossed we don't give him an early sniff in the second half and the match peters out. I worry about Prowse getting a second yellow. Whether it's the miles he's covered lately or what, he's been arriving late to every 50:50 today. Don't think Long has completed a single pass, but more than happy for his all round game to be useless if he pops up with his goal for the year. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
  14. I had a dream it was 0-0, and reading the report on the BBC website, the game was so bad the sponsors refused to award a man of the match. Liverpool also beat United 2-0, for those wanting to take a punt on my unconscious soothsaying abilities. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
  15. Even though he doesn't have the legs for a pressing game, he is our ONLY alternative central midfielder when/if Hojbjerg or Ward-Prowse become unavailable. Can't see him being allowed to leave in this window unless we're replacing him or recalling Harry Reed. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
  16. Unless he was insanely impressive in training, I can't see us making his move permanent. He's on a long, recently renewed contract at Augsburg - I'd expect the asking price to be well over £15m. Do we have that kind of money to throw around on a squad player. I like his raw materials and think he could become a really good centre back, but I doubt it'll be at Saints. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
  17. Why? Cedric's been playing pretty well and has more pace than Bertrand. Not that many have been able to contain Traore when he's in the groove this season. I fear he'll mess around like Antonio a month back. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
  18. This is yesterday Doesn't look like he's back any time soon. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
  19. He's a (highly rated) right back. Given that he's currently got a broken foot and would cost semi-decent money for us, perhaps we're putting in the groundwork for a summer move, after Cedric has left. Left back seems to be the manager's priority this window. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
  20. Hard to narrow it down to one player - our squad is on a knife-edge in so many positions. If either full back gets injured, we're screwed. It sounds as though the manager wants that addressing this window as priority number one. Hojbjerg and Ward-Prowse are our whole midfield now. If either gets injured or suspended, human wheelie bin Romeu is the only alternative and there goes our pressing game. And obviously Ings is our only forward who scores. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
  21. Norwich are cut adrift now - at least in terms of catching us - but 19th to 8th will be looking over their shoulders for at least the next few months. It's a tight one this season - no-one is truly awful. I think it might be one of those rare years where someone drops with 40 points. I'll certainly feel more secure if we can get three more wins asap. 37 with 7-8 games left would allow us to cruise in, picking up the odd points here and there. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
  22. Has anyone seen a VAR breakdown of Leicester's goal? In real time I was sure Vardy was well offside in the build up but it was totally glossed over in the broadcast: no replays, no lines drawn on the screen. I know all goals are allegedly checked by VAR as a matter of course, but it seemed weird that there was no mention of it and then the game just restarted. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
  23. Diego Forlan, against us for Man United, got a late goal, took his wet shirt off and swung it around his head, and then couldn't get the twisted thing back on as the game restarted. He played out the last few minutes topless, farcicaly carrying his shirt in one hand. It was a bit of a spectacle. I don't know if that played any part in the lawmakers clamping down on the practice, but the rules were definitely changed soon after. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
  24. Illan Meslier, playing for Leeds tonight, was rumoured to have been the young French keeper we showed around Staplewood in the summer. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
  25. Wasn't a good game, but we got over the line, rested some important players, gave a bit of experience to a couple of youngsters who'll definitely benefit from the run out; and the manager and board got to see ahead of the transfer window that our squad players would struggle in the Championship. Thought Smallbone offered little, looked very lightweight, but took his goal excellently. Reminded me of Hesketh's "breakthrough" against Palace. Not overly convinced he'll make it. Vokins was much the better player. Gets caught way upfield too much, but has great recovery pace and a decent engine. Could do with a bit more physicality and positionally there's plenty to learn, but I think he's a worthy long term investment. He had nothing to do, but it was also nice for Gunny to keep a clean sheet in his first game since the Leicester horror show. Seemed fairly confident. Adams is a write off. No quality. And he hardly even gets into goal scoring positions. Long might miss chances, but at least he understands the game enough to turn up in the right places to miss them. Adams is nowhere to be seen when the ball goes into the box. Hey ho. Shouldn't grumble about back-to-back home wins and clean sheets. It's been a while... Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
