It obviously depends on the loan fee and how much of his wage we are paying. Personally, I don’t think he improves the team. He’s not any better than Gabbi or Austin and is probably on par with Long.
-
Personally, yes I would but then I love saints and that’s the only club I could imagine playing for. Obviously I’m not in his shoes and I’m not fortunate enough to have to make that decisiom. Point being, he doesn’t support saints
-
Voksey and his old man are big saints fans.
-
Not sure about that, but grew up with him (from same area and went to the same school), he’s not a ‘fan’. Obviously has an affiliation with the club being born and living in Netley, but was generally always resentful that he wasn’t good enough for us (as a nipper). If he was such a fan and wanted to play for the club that much, he wouldn’t have chosen Liverpool over us when he was at Burnley. FWIW we’ve been in contact with him for a few month (think I said this previously) we just wouldn’t pay £20m that Liverpool wanted for him.
-
Born in Southampton, lived here until he moved to Burnley... wouldn’t say he’s a supporter though. He’s Just brought a new house in Netley.
-
You what? Have you ever seen him play? He’s more like a Shane Long with Charlie Austin’s knees.
-
And after 2 he previously had. His knees are shot to bits... and people moan about Austin’s fitness
-
I’ve been saying this for about 18 months. I’ve a horrible feeling this could be the year we drop.
-
Drinkwater looked top draw in a team that won the PL (all be it because of playing next to Kante), he also moved to Chelsea who generally pay over the odds. What has JWP won other than the best free kick taker with no real end product? I’m yet to see (other than a decent cross) what JWP has to offer and evidently so have many (some very good) managers.
-
Players of a similar ability, who’d be better suited to us than JWP (not suggesting we should sign these btw): - Chalobah - moved to Watford last year for c.£6m - Jack Cork - Moved to Burnley last year for c.£9m - Schneiderlin - probably worth about c.£15m (much better than JWP) - Harry Winks - no idea on value would guess £10-20m (better than JWP) - Loftus-Cheek - probably more expensive and would guess £20-£25m, but he’s significantly better than jwp We signed Armstrong for £7/£8m and he already looks like he’ll offer us more than JWP ever has. Keeping players like JWP Is how you end up with a squad full of average players like ours.
-
I’ve watched loads of Juve games. Dyabla is a forward, who best position is behind the striker (similar to Grizeman), he can play out wide, but he’s best as second striker. JWP is not a forward. He’s a CM, who has been pushed out to play on the right because he’s not good enough or creative enough centrally. If you want him in the squad to put in crosses he’ll be better suited to RB. As others have said, we don’t need to replace him really as he’s on the bench most weeks. Bank the £10m and put it towards a forward or CB who will play week in week out
-
What experience? He’s been in and out of every squad he’s been in. Never has he really been first name on the team sheet or held down a starting place. £10m does sound a bit low, but in reality he’s just not that good. To think we sold Tadic for £15, I think £10 is about right.
-
Dybala is a AM/Second striker. He also has incredible creativity. You’re comparing apples to oranges, mate. JWP only ability is literally to pass the ball sidewards and takes a decent corner / free kick (which we never score from. You’re backing a dud buddy.
-
But he’s clearly not first choice and is an area we arguably need strengthening. What’s the point of keeping him wasting wage/squad place?
-
Beckham stopped playing at the top level around 10 years ago. In his later days, he played more centrally. The game has changed a lot since beckham played in the PL (I.e nearly no one plays 2 CF’s allowing a knock on). Name one top level wide player who is as slow as JWP? Lallana / Tadic aren’t blessed with pace, but they have quick feet and a lot of creativity to make up for it, JWP doesn’t.
-
Couldn’t give 2 sh!ts if we sold him, to be honest. If it was us offering £10m for him and he’d come from Watford’s academy it would cause a melt down on here. Average player, not good or strong enough for holding CM, not quick enough to play oit wide and doesn’t score enough to play AM. The only position I could see him playing is RB, if I’m honest.
-
Agree, but we didn’t and (imo) they aren’t.
-
I wouldn’t be against us starting the season with Bertrand at LCB and Targett at LWB.
-
We went into the window needing a CB, RB (cover) and RW/FW.... we still need a CB, RB (cover) and RW/FW. Think we could get away with Reed as RB cover, but the others we still need and pretty quickly.
-
Without a doubt. Been saying this since he tore us apart (at times) when he played for that danish team.

A good friend worked at the club in a fairly senior role and was very close to a few directors, so I was told bits and on a few occasions socialised with some of the players. Sadly they no longer work at the club and whilst I know a few who work there still, I rarely hear anything. Personally don’t get the fascination/hate (not aimed at you, pamplemousse talking in general) with ‘ITK’s’ on here. If I get told anything of note, which I think I can share, I will. It’s up to you if you believe or not - I generally take with a pinch of salt unless I can verify through my contact. But as eric has said, things are some times drip fed out (sometimes made up) and things change very quickly so can be out of date before they get out.
-
If we want to get the best out of Armstrong (I like what I’ve seen pre-season), I think we need to play him in the 10 or as a 3 in the middle. Personally I’d go 4231 McCarthy Cedric Yoshida Vestergaard Bertrand Romeu Lemina Redmond Armstrong Elyounoussi Austin However I suspect he’ll go for a back 3/5. If he does, I hope he goes: (5-1-3-1) Cedric-Bednarek-Vestergaard-Yoshida-Bertrand —————-——— Lemina——- —————- Redmond——-Armstrong———-elyounoussi —————Austin—————— Similar set up to England in the WC
-
The lack of composure in front of goal must just run through the club. Should be 4/5-0 up.

Has anyone actually said that?
