  1. I’m not sure he’ll want to come here... he recently expressed an interest in transferring to a team with European football... “It will be all the better if this club is playing in Europe. It is any footballer's great aim to play in the Champions League.” https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/6313370/xherdan-shaqiri-reveals-champions-league-wish-to-open-door-to-12m-tottenham-switch/
  2. I thought so.
  3. Leicester are close to signing Porto RB Pereira for £25M, which is less than his £33M buy-out clause, but there may be some add-ons... https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/05/16/leicesterclose-agreeing-25m-dealfor-right-back-ricardo-pereira/
  4. Injured but then not selected for an extended period of time presumably because Poch did not take kindly to Rose angling for a move.
  5. It seems odd to me. I think Bertrand is a better player than Rose. I was wondering if sports science played a role in Bertrand’s omission. He’s played a full season. Perhaps they’re concerned he has too much mileage under his belt and is more at risk of injury during the tournament than the other LBs.
  6. After all, if the fans’ opinions really mattered to the club, they would have fired Pellegrino in December.
  7. I have an old-fashioned belief that wasting at least £20M, much of which occurs as a by-product of pursuing managers under contract to other teams, matters. I don’t think that bringing player acquisitions into this debate really works when you look at some of the donkeys purchased by Everton under Moshiri.
  8. When the dust settles on this, Everton will have spent £20M in manager payoffs to Martinez, Koeman and Allardyce in the last 2 years. They may still have to compensate Watford for Silva, as well. They are a cluster**** of a club under Moshiri.
  9. The animosity between Everton and Watford over Silva hasn’t dissipated, it seems... https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/05/15/everton-will-hold-talks-watford-avoid-possible-points-deduction/
  10. After listening to the Blackmore interview and then reading this, I noticed a few interesting bits in the Telegraph article... Hughes announcement is likely by end of the week. City still interested in Bertrand, Barcelona interested in Cedric. They “still have two years remaining on their contracts and, should big offers come in, it is clear that Southampton will open their ears and not again want team spirit to be threatened.” Les remaining does not sound certain in the Telegraph piece. It’s “likely to depend on talks with the club’s new majority owners, the Chinese Gao family, about his ongoing control over the football operations.”
  11. I certainly liked his “club has been too clever for its own good” question concerning the appointment of Pellegrino.
  12. I almost punched my iPad when he said that. What planet were they on?
  13. McCarthy is player of the season. Gabbiadini gets goal of the season. I suppose it could have been awkward if Boufal won. https://southamptonfc.com/news/2018-05-14/southampton-player-awards-results-201718
  14. To answer the OP, really, really, bad. A poor choice for manager made almost disastrously worse by the odd decision to keep him on for as long as we did.
  15. I’m hoping he stays. He’s a player that gets a lot of stick on here, but we’ll miss him terribly if he goes.
  16. Isn’t he going into the last year of his contract? It will be hard to get a decent fee in that case. You’d hope that McCarthy would value the opportunity to start every game with Saints.
  17. Feels good to be staying up. Definitely the least bothered I’ve been with a PL loss.
  18. The Europa League may well do a number on Burnley.
  19. I can see Huddersfield struggling next year as well.
  20. This match was the first stress-free PL viewing experience in a while, so I actually enjoyed it until Jesus scored in time added to injury time. I could do without this year’s level of stress next season. Make it happen Les and co.
  21. Pretty much the last kick of the game, with some route 1 football.
  22. Well. 0-1 it is.
  23. McQueen on for Bertrand... Bertie gets a decent round of applause.
  24. We could almost have a best nun of the season poll.
  25. Cleared off the line with the keeper stranded!
