Burnley local media (@bodenknights) reporting they have made a bid for Adams.
-
Weird if true seeing as a couple of days ago Ralph said: "It doesn’t mean we don’t take any player but it’s a young one we try to build up for the future and there are a few players we are looking at.” 27 isn't a young player for the future. Its effectively swapping one 27yo RB for (based on his career) a worse 27yo RB. I hope he isn't ****ed off as from his comments throughout the window i.e looking to add quality, will replace Gabbiadini, definitely signing someone etc, he clearly expected a bit more - and has earned the right to expect that more than any of our recent Managers. If we couldn't get who we really wanted at RB in Jan then why loan Cedric - its not like we need €500k - the cost of bedsit in London? We could have kept him and sold in the summer once more options were available to sign a young up and coming player as stated as the aim. Getting rid of the players we have totally makes sense, but our process of actually signing players remains a cluster**** - but then again, Ross Wilson has overseen a few of those as Head of Recruitment Of our four main targets, JKA, Mepham, Maehle, Adams it seems we just can't afford any of them, or are unwilling to pay what is needed to get the deal done. We won't get any of these in the summer either as their prices will go up if they keep doing well. We can brief the Echo of being "hopeful" of signing good players, just like we used to brief Jeremy Wilson, but that doesn't translate to actually signing good players.

Don't see this one happening. Would be a risk to have no real options if Redmond got injured but summer is a better time to do business.
-
If we genuinely want him and can't see off Burnley then you do have to wonder about the capability of Wilson and Krueger.
-
Personally think we won't sign anyone. Reasons being: 1. We have little money 2. There are three days left and the players we want play for clubs who don't want to sell and have no time to get a replacement in. Sounds familiar! 3. Ross Wilson and Ralph Krueger have a long history of poor transfer windows, especially in January

£8m seems low these days for a player of high potential who is one of the top scorers in the Championship. Its the same as we paid for Jay Rod about 5 years ago and the fees have gone mad since then. Re the Gallagher point, that is näive. Its about more than what his goal tally last year was - its the specific attributes the player brings. If Gallagher had them then he would be playing in the first XI.
-
Indeed. He has only scored more than 7 goals in one PL season which was 2014/15 for QPR. Has returned PL tallies of 1, 6, 7 and 2 for Saints. So clearly not an 8-12 goal striker. And not worth anywhere near 60k a week.
-
If Adam Leitch confims we want him then we clearly do. Hope now that is known that we manage to get it done, as there will be interest from others. To sign Adams and get a fee for Austin would make it a very productive window IMO.
-
Adams is a similar profile to Ollie Watkins from Brentford who we have also been linked with. That type of player, to compete with Redmond and Armstrong, is exactly what we need IMO.
-
Nixon saying we are keen on Che Adams of Birmingham.
-
Maehle starting tonight for Gent. Clearly nothing imminent regarding a move. If we are very keen then a risk to wait til summer if there is a possibility of getting him now.
-
Some absolute drivel on here. IMO its all good business. None of these players, Cedric aside, have contributed this season. We need to get rid of big earners who don't add anything to the starting XI, to allow us to free up wages for a couple of big hitters whilst the likes of Obafemi, Valery, Slattery get a place in the squad on far less cash than who they are replacing. The only issue I have is at RB where we need a signing when Cedric goes. Finally good to see the club being ruthless.
-
We all trust RH. But its Ross Wilson and Ralph Krueger who are doing the deals - and both were here during those dreadful windows that CB Fry describes.
-
Has been a poor signing overall. Averaged about 5 goals a season during his time here. Two stupid FA bans at times where he may have had game time as well. High wages but a low ability to keep himself fit. Would be brilliant to get him off the wage bill and also get a fee in the process.
-
For me Ramsay has been a massive weak link vs both City and Derby. He just isn't ready for PL football. Why lose Cedric for €500k given the position we are in and the lack of suitable cover for Valery? Ramsay could end up playing 10 PL games before now and the end of the season. Madness. Cedric has the most apps out of all our full backs this season and regardless of his long term position, he is a proven PL level player, hence a team like Inter want him. If he was being sold I would agree with it, but for a €500k loan its bizarre. If the squad is too big, send Ramsay back to the U23s to learn his trade...
-
Quite clearly the issue isn't specifically whether Cedric is good or not. Its that whilst in a relegation battle there is no need to let someone go for 500k who is clearly still a viable option to play, if not always start.
-
Valery is raw and could suddenly have a dip and Ramsay is nowhere near the level needed now. Risky move to let Cedric go, especially given we hardly need to loan him out for financial reasons. Have to also consider that we have Ross Wilson and Ralph Krueger in charge of our transfer dealings. As far as I am aware, both have been present in our multiple terrible windows of recent years.

http://sportwitness.co.uk/club-contacted-southampton-player-ready-close-deal-theres-positive-signs/ Some differing views from the Italian media about how likely this is. Di Marzio usually the best source though so will be interesting to hear his updates today.
-
Don't see why Saints would be very keen on a loan: 1. Cedric would need replacing (whereas Hoedt doesn't) and from all the "long term, young player" chat we would have to pay a fee 2. His contract is up in 18 months so value diminishing. Now the optimal time to sell even if for a reduced price. 3. He is a long term signing for someone I think, rather than a short term punt and unlike Darmian would be on affordable wages for a side like Inter.
-
No Lemina in training pics from today. He really is struggling with his stomach muscle strain (which I believe is genuine btw). Bertrand is there. No Targett.
-
Not according to the club. He hasnt requested to take any money out. Have to remember, in the case of Hoedt for example that we will probably be paying Lazio for him for another 2 years, regardless of whether he is at the club or not. Likewise Carillo. Likewise Boufal. We have a series of expensive signings that we continue to pay for even though they aren't at the club, a wage bill that is in the top 10 in the PL and three Manager payoffs. It all adds up.
-
Judging by the Echo article we are waiting for someone to sign Cedric before replacing him (and I thinknwe knew that). The main area we need someone is in attack - we have no cover for Redmond. That said, those type of players cost, so Im not expecting anyrhing this window and agree the summer needa to see a total clearout. Interesting that RH seemed very confident of one signing a week or so back - was that the RB or the attacker I wonder?
-
Is the Carsten Jancker deal still being ratified?
-
In a word, no.

Why would it ever be anyone on here's decision? If on that basis it shouldn't be discussed on here then we may as well shut the forum down!
