They weren't exactly banging in when he played. He had a good little run for 6 games but before Puel didn't pick him, much like Koeman and Pellegrino didn't and haven't. He would be a great player in the Championship but isnt physically up to PL standard. If we made him available in January I bet only one or two teams right at the bottom of the PL would even consider him.

Austin had one 6 game spell in 18 months here where he has been good here. The half season after he signed he was crap. Since coming back from his injury he has looked worse.
-
Austin was ****e when he came on, fat, slow and with a dire first touch. No chance he starts, and rightly so.
-
So after a few games we are back to Shane Long leading the line. Decent from him today, did what he does well - stretched the game, put their defenders under pressure and tried to win a pen by stopping running so a defender runs into him but the ref saw through it. However, neither against United or Palace has he looked remotely like scoring and there is little chance he will score 10 in the season. With nobody else really scoring can we really afford to not play Gabbiadini who is the best striker we have? Austin looked like a carthorse today. He isn't the answer. I would look to get shot of him in January.

Superb. Enjoy him while we can. Exactly what we were missing in midfield.

Austin is slow, poor technically and unfit, why should he be the "spearhead" exactly?

Get the **** in! Anyone know how Brickhill rank versus other PL clubs Official Asian Trading Partners? Marquee signing IMO. https://southamptonfc.com/news/2017-09-22/southampton-brickhill-capital-partnership-announcement

Totally agree with him. The only teams who get away with two strikers in the PL are: a.) Those who are happy to sacrifice possession and play very direct i.e Burnley b.) Those who have good enough players to dominate with fewer players in the middle of the pitch i. e Man City and sometimes Spurs who play very narrow anyway. Saints don't fit either of these criteria.

Its what my Stokie oppo told me to do, nipper. C**t.

The club, and all other clubs, want to attract fans who can and will spend money. You can post what you like on an internet fans forum but it is 2017 not 1977.

I don't think that is what Saints, or many other PL clubs really want though to be honest, at least not as a majority of the matchgoing fanbase. They want families with children who will spend money in the club shop, generate social media interactions, and won't cause trouble at games. Most of what ericb suggested makes sense but little of it will actually happen, as we all know. The best short term measure is the team playing better football, some new players emerging such as Lemina, and the team having something to play for or aim for - the atmosphere is always better then.
-
Hansen, a summer signing from Norway seems to be a good prospect.
-
Couldn't see Lemina or Davis in any of the pics or videos, maybe had some minor knocks. Palace was pretty physical.

Absolute drivel. You can win a penalty just the same as you can win a free kick. If the attacker doesn't attempt to beat the defender then the foul likely wouldn't occur so to say a player being fouled is "not his doing" is just wrong. He is fouled because the defender cannot stop him within the rules of the game so to me that has everything to do with either the quality, idea, pace, dribbling ability, anticipation etc of the attacker, combined with poor play from the defender. Just the same as creating chances or scoring goals.

No chance Austin is one of our best 10 outfield players.
-
Ridiculous IMO. Redmond isn't Mane but is miles better than McQueen as a winger (he didn't stand out as a first teamer against a poor Stoke team tonight). Sims is injured and Gabbiadini is a striker.
-
Still unconvinced Pied is any better than Martina to be honest.
-
Still think we undersold him. Brilliant player. Will probably be up there with Bale as the best player to play for us in the modern era in terms of what he will achieve in football.
-
Only two types of PL sides play with 2 strikers: - Teams like Burnley or Leicester who happily concede possession and play direct - Teams like City or Spurs who can afford to have one less midfielder and still control the match because they are so good. Its pretty obvious we are in neither category. One/two up front is not a guide to whether or not you play attacking football. Our area to improve is the setup of the three behind the striker and their attacking intent and the positions they take up.
-
Hoedt is good in the air and has a lovely left foot - some brilliant crossfield passes today. Would want to see him against some better, quicker strikers though before making a complete judgement - even today on the very rare occassions he was dragged out wide, he was beaten easily. Looks promising though and if we improve our corner delivery he should be a threat from those too.

Just on the way back. Good, battling performance and a deserved win. Lemina obviously class but lots of good performances today, including Romeu, Yoshida and Forster. Still not clicking going forward. Long was a good outlet today but we wouldn't be able to do the same at home versus teams that sit back. Tadic, who often gets stick, was good and lonked well with Cedric. Good also to get VVD playing. He is here for now so we might as well play him.

The obsession with Sammy Lee has to be the most bizarre thing on here, just ahead of the reverse opinion of Eric Black.
-
High-ish potential for a kit clash tomorrow?
-
Since the start of August? Pretty clear Shurlock is right, he isn't in the Manager's current plans.

Classic player who is probably great in training but struggles to have any real impact on games. Its his 6th PL season, I don't see that he is suddenly going to improve any more than a player aged 27 or 28. He will never be quicker, stronger or more aggressive and those are his wesknesses. Decent PL squad member but will never be a top player. No disgrace in that.
