agreed. I have to ask why we signed Murty if height was an issue. A slow full back may as well be a slow tall full back like Harding. We need to get Gillett back in the side

Let me start my reply by saying that I thought Pardews decision to sub Schneiderlin rather than Wotton was rediculous (how he can now moan about us playing it long when he took our only decent passer off is beyond me - Wotton is a hoof ball, over the shoulder talentless player Pardew if you had not worked it out). So I am not defending Pardew for any reason. However, I do have some sympathy for his decision to take Perry off rather than a striker. I thought Lambert and Rasiak worked hard and well together and they deserved to stay on the pitch, but unfortunatley every ball was a hoof so they had very little to work with. I doubt Saga would have brought anything to the party. If anything Paterson should have come on as he hjas shown great strength in the air - more than Rasiak. In contrast the two centre backs were having absolute shockers and their poor marking, decisions, and distribution meant the ball never found our midfield. They effecively killed our side time after time with ball tobleroning off their heads, slicing into touch, wacked through to the keeper etc.. Sadly Lancashire offered no better. If Pardew drops Scheiderlin and plays Wotton for Swindon then any faith I had will be lost overnight. Time after time we subbed Schneiderlin last season and we became a far less effective side because of it. Pardew has already done that once and if he did not see he made a mistake then I expect a very long season indeed. I want to see us pass teams off the park and the likes of Rasiak and Lambert actually want to see the ball to feet not round their shoulders - we are not going to get that with Wotton over Morgan.

Unfounded speculation. A quick player to go alongside Lambert. Michael Mifsud?
Chez replied to Colinjb's topic in The Saints
who said Misfud was quick? Quick like Saga or compared to Wotton, but quick as in fast, I don't think so. -
I can't fault Wotton's desire and effort, but that is just not enough. A central midfielder should be the best player on the park. Great first touch, excellent passing ability, combined with an engine and enough pace to keep his oppossing CM honest.
-
absolutely not, but the manor of the defeat are the obvious failings (in terms of pace and height from our centre backs, threat from our wide players, ability to get hold of the ball in midfield, and pace up front) are a real concern. JPS or Perry at the back? Its a no brainer so why not make this happen?

never been a fan but I 'm not sure he could do worse than the others.
-
Jesus he was a liability. They wacked over the top and he falls over, they play it to the strikers feet an he nearly falls over. He looks a very very poor player on that short display. Hopefully he will get his act together. Unlike the other two time is on his side.

I simply do not understand why Woton gets a game ahead of Gillett. Wotton is so slow he can't ever make a tackle. I can only assume that Pardew wants that extra bit of height. That is the only thing Wotton offers ahead of Gillett.
-
we were played off the park. It should have been at least 2-0 at half time and it could have been 5 or 6 on another day. We offered very little threat indeed. Your marks out of ten are far far too generous IMO. Why you mark Rasiak lower than the rest is beyond me. He didn't win headers but if thatss the case why are we hoofing it up to him all day long. Why doesn't Lambert go for the first ball? Rasiak worked hard IMO but the service was appauling.

because Perry was so damn poor Pardew had no choice but to take him off. If he had more subs available I'd like to think that he'd of taken Thomas off as well. Those two were rubbish and IMO its not that they had an off day it is just that they were found out. Slow and poor in the air. What a terrible combination of attributes we have for cenyre halves. Saints fans need to wise up to the fact that Perry is not a good player. Only Powell is worse in posession than Perry. At least he won headers.

Thomson has the done square route of **** all so far, so to say he had his best game for Saints is saying absolutely nothing. In my opinion he did nothing substantial on Saturday either. He beat no one, he didn't get to the byeline when a great opportunity offered itself. He was zero threat. Of course tackling and heading go without saying - he doesn't do either. He is lightweight. He need to get some elbows. As I understand it he failed to impress at Bournemouth either. It worries me greatly that he is first change. Is he even all that quick? Thin yes, quick I'm not so sure. He is going to need a lot of time to develop and perhaps that should be out on loan. Mellis showed energy. Shame we hoofed it over his head for the entire half.

I'd take Pele over any of our defenders and any of our defensive midfielders. Skacel is better than Holmes - our only left midfielder. Simple. Centre backs are what we need though. Two of them immediately. A big bloke to win headers and a fast big bloke to win headers and to mark the fast strikers.

just back after a long road trip and I have just about had the chance to calm down. After 25 years of watching Saints you'd think I'd have learned by now what to expect, but a performance like that is totally unacceptable IMO and if Pardew does not learn from that he never will. We were embarressing. Make no mistake. Huddersfield were decent, but we were pitiful, Long ball ****e all game. The decision by Pardew to take Schneiderlin off and leave Wotton on beggars belief. Wotton is woeful. We need two centre backs quick sharp. I have been saying it for a very long time now that Perry and Thomas are **** and this game showed all of their weaknesses. Crap in the air, slow, poor talking, poor decision making and some laughable marking. Get two decent centre backs and Gillett instead of Wotton and we might start to do something. Davis 8 - two great saves in the first half and some very good sweeper work Murty 6 - solid enough but never got past the half way line Thomas 3 - garbage. Got steadily worse as the game went on. Perry 2 - slow, terrible in the air and clueless Harding 4 - given the run around in the second half James 2 - did nothign, when he got the opportunity to get down the line he crossed far too early. Rightly subbed Wotton 1 - non existant. So slow he never ever got near the opposition. Woeful player and performance. Schneiderlin 6 - no idea why he was subbed. He wasn't playing great but he looked like one of our better players. Very poor decision by Pardew. Lallana 3 - non existant Lambert 8 - tried hard but far far too many long balls. We have become a hoof ball side Rasiak 6 - worked very hard but won zero in the air. Terrible service to him though. Jacob 3 - looks fast but hardly touched the ball in the whole second half Lancashire 3 - amlost fell over every single time the opponent got the ball. Looks a poor player. Thomson 2 - lightweight. Is he ever all that quick? One great opportunity to get to the byeline and what does he do, yes you guessed it, he crossed it early.

It will just be a board member that knows the football business. nicola has probably spent every waking hour on the phone and on the road trying to tie up transfer deals and he probably wants to give that responsibility to someone else so he can look after everything else.

I saw Danny Livesey mentioned on an Echo thread. I suggested him last summer. Anyone know if he is fit?
-
We give them 1200 first and they come back to us if they want more. By doing it that way the club has a better understanding of the away ticket sales rather than being told a final figure a day before the game. Knowing sales will help in terms of planning of police, food , staff etc. I suppose they coud jsut ask BCFC for an update but maybe they (or other away teams) have been useless in supplying the information in the past.
-
I'd keep Patterson in the starting 11.
-
the Mirror suggested it was £100,000.

really? We werre shot but they only just avoided relegation themselves from the league below. -

so 40-50 (x£2 each) on a coach = £80 to £100, they appear to have turned a £20 loss into a £60 - £80 profit. This requires an explanation in my book. -
I just wonder if Pardew is concerned about Gillets lack of height. Overall we are a small side so that extra bit of height can make a big difference at set peices etc. Other than that I have not idea why Wotton gets the place. He is the midfield version of Darren Powell IMO.
-
get both them and JPS in then and offload Thomas and Perry because JPS is better than either of them.
-
sounds to me as though its you that has the blinkered view of JPS, based primarly on that poor Charlton game. You say it yourself that you have only seen him a few times. Those that saw every game will be far more forgiving of that poor display. I gave him 9 out of 10 in most games, so that Charlton display was out of character IMO. I have to say I can't agree with you on the following: "lack of ability" - he would be by far and away the most confortable on the ball of any of our centre backs if he came here now. Compare him to say Perry for example who dithers and makes some of the worst passing decisions I have ever seen of a centre back. "Poor in the air" - what a load of tosh. He is very good in the air. His strongest attribute in fact and he won headers all day long in most games last season. After he signed we became much harder to score against at set peices thats for sure. "very weak" - is he ****. He's a strong centre back that puts himself about. I don't recall any striker bullying him last season.

the echo has done its best and the reserve team manager mus have seen him play so job done. Whether Pardew prefers a different path is a another thing. I wonder how big Saeijs' wages are?
