Southampton 0-1 Newcastle League Cup Semi Final 1st Leg
CB Fry replied to Saint_clark's topic in The Saints
By the same token I think we would need to win 5-0 tonight for me not to think we'd be the victim of the greatest second leg turnaround in cup history next week. 3-0 win and I think they'd turn it over no problem 🙄 -
It's hardly full PR bullshit what Jones has said. Especially the stuff Jan said about Villa would also qualify as "full PR bullshit" in the first place. Just for Villa audience not a Saints one. So not really worth get worked up about.
-
The perfect SaintsWeb scenario - we all agree he's shit, doesn't play in the position we need, massively overpriced but for fucks sake Saints stop dithering and pay the asking price immediately.
-
I agree with the general point but I think you are overplaying how much better Brighton is vs Hampshire if you are a millionaire. It’s not that much better. Marginal. Livramento for example chose us over them.
-
We now know we lost the "Loser gets Bednarek" play off 🙄
-
I doubt anyone thinks that Bednarek is "the answer" to anything. Just looking at the downbeat announcement on the club twitter feed shows you that. I imagine Villa had no interest in keeping him now, especially since Emery arrived. If there was a break clause, they've activated it. We've got a CB injury. At the end of the day he is contracted to us so we're stuck with him.

Southampton 0-1 Newcastle League Cup Semi Final 1st Leg

We have a bad decision on Saturday and that's turned into all the VAR decisions thwart us. Behave. Weve benefitted plenty of times from VAR. -
But did we? The was huge chunks of time when it was just Wayne Bridge and Matty Oakley. Season after season went by. If we were a Prem club in Lallana's key development years I doubt he would have made it into the first team. I think people's memories are being hugely distorted by the fact that we were Championship and L1 which allowed players not good enoughfor the Prem to get game time. You've put "PL" so do not reply with Le Tissier and the Wallace brothers etc etc. The fact that the same names get trotted out show that its never been that many. Its not been a great spell but the team has been struggling so probably not the best conditions for it. And as Chez says, our actual output (Reed, Targett, etc) is not too shabby.

Behave. Footballers live in big closed off mansions and spend their time on their PlayStations, Netflix, committing sexual assault or betting on horses. Whether their mansion is Hampshire or Sussex (or Cheshire or Staffordshire or Worcestershire) not that much of a difference. London clubs more attractive than playing for Middlesbrough or out of the way Norwich but between Hampshire and the county next door? No mate.

Jesus wept. They've finished 9th, once. Just like Steve Coppell did with Reading, Hodgson with Fulham and West Brom, Big Sam's Bolton, Mark Hughes Stoke (and Blackburn) and Sean Dyche at Burnley and of course us over a few seasons too. Most of those were actually 8th place finishes - Dyche took Burnley to 7th. This manager has got Potters team for now. They're in a good spot but even Potter could only finish above Ralph once. Let's see how this new guy gets on over time. The idea that Brighton have cracked it and off they go to be perpetually challenging for Europe forever now, do me a favour. Who remembers when it was Leicester that had the magic potion and had it all worked out? I remember, it was last season.

38 points is fine in pretty much enough any season these days - amy club tracking a point a game is basically on track for safety. Forest for example now nicely placed. They're not safe by any means yet but bang on track. We are miles off - even if we win our next two league games in a row we still won't be back to a point a game.
-
Er, you don't need 12 wins to stay up. 6 more wins max. It doesn't matter, we're not going to get them but we might as well be realistic in what us actually required.
-
We'll see. Our potential pool of players willing to come shrinks with every loss, and now the window will close with us bottom of the league. Meaning we are over paying for players with half an eye on their next move in the summer. Mercenary Central. I can't see SR just chucking money about when we are massively likely to be in the Championship next season.
-
Well, we did in 97.
-
People go on about the great escapes of the past but really the comparison should be the team that did go down in 2005. Our current team aren't fit to lace that teams boots and they were gutless and rubbish and relegated. But front to back most of that team would walk into this current squad.
-
We're shit and we're going down. We're stone bottom with second worst goal difference already. We've won one in six, can't keep clean sheets and aren't scoring. Yes we all remember Marian Pahars and Le Tissier scoring at Selhurst and yeah yeah yeah. We're down.
-
We're so relegated it's unreal. Get used to it.

Hi everyone Just been out on Mayflower Park with my Nephew and the drone he got for Christmas. Brilliant it is, went absolutely miles. Now back home. How are we getting on?

Graham Potter saying he has the hardest job in football the other day as well. Utter plank.
-
Narrow defeat leaving us bottom but with just enough "well, if we play like that every week then we definitely won't be relegated" content for the delusionals.
-
It was very clearly a choice between a new commercial manager and signing a striker and I, for one, support the club making what is obviously the correct decision.
-
But of course. That feels like the most obvious move for all parties.
-
Ekambi a great signing for us.

You're the one wailing about how "screwed" football is, so you don't need to tell me to chill out, sweetheart. If someone chucks £50m on Lavia then he's going to play for that club, not "doesn't play again for years". Honestly, calm down.
-
What are you basing this on? Lavia is not going this window so how is it evidence of "how screwed football is"?
