Even if you didn't know, the fact is we play a second tier/decent European team every single season the weekend before the season starts. Every single season. Why on earth did you think we wouldn't this summer?
-
Brighton are playing AFC Wimbledon away. We're playing Celta Vigo and Borossia Mönchengladbach at home. That puts things into perspective. Easy, ain't it?
-
To be honest I think the joke is the reference in the video to the leak rather than the leak itself being the joke. As this exchange has shown, it's far to risky to try and carry off.
-
Er, that's just happened already.
-
No, because then you've got a story you can't control. That would make the tabloids - saints new Chinese owners enrage fans with blue kit shock etc etc. Even the club saying "no it's just a joke" would be met with cynicism.
-
If it's all a trick then fair play to the club. The Australian photo could easily be staged, as could the link up on the site. As Garrevito says, no one seems to have actually bought it. Let's see.
-
Didn't see that coming.

Bloody good job they have a world class manager then.

Sorry, we have utterly fu cked up three, some say four, consecutive transfer windows, with even the manager saying we were too slow to react and land our targets last January. Last January, last summer and the January before that were total car crashes. The summer before that, yes we made signings but of players that markedly did not improve the squad. Missed targets, panic buys, awful selections, boneheaded contract extensions. At points last season we had a subs bench crammed with £10-£20m signings which was farcical. We are not "pretty good at quietly going about our business" we are utterly hopeless at player recruitment these days.

There will be a Group P for eff's sake.

16 groups of 3 teams? Jesus wept.

When does the Rhodesia vs Ottoman Empire match kick off?
-
They would have got one at the start of the following season, had they held on to their jobs. That's all it is. Here's Koeman being interviewed ahead of his second season. https://southamptonfc.com/news/2015-06-30/koeman-looking-forward-to-pre-season-reunions

He has a flawless record which I have no doubt will continue long into the future.

You can't say you're happy with the Christmas fixtures and at the same time say you want to take one out. If you remove the (say) 29th then that means you're taking out a festive home game from every club every other year. Madness. Rapid games in succession is the entire point of the Christmas football period. It's brilliant for the fans and from my perspective a central part of the marathon of the season. It's Becher's Brook, it's hitting the wall at mile 20, it's king of the mountains, it's the 5 set, 16 game fifth set in the quarter final at Wimbledon. Managers complaining about Christmas fixtures and fans whining about it is like the Brownlee brothers saying the triathlon would be so much more competitive if you just took out the bicycle bit.

No club will go back to not releasing new every year now. The entire economy is based on fast turnaround products with in built obsolescence and football shirts is at the vanguard of that. On sash it's all about the commitment - like when Leeds went all-white back in the 60s you have to do it and stick to it. I still think the sales of the new one each year would be much the same as stripe then stripe then stripe. Anyway, we won't do it.
-
Surprised it's you saying that with your in-depth knowledge of cross-stiched underarm ventilation collars or whatever it is you go on about... Arsenal can do infinite variations on red shirt white sleeves or Celtic or Spurs or actually anyone - it could be done, I can think of about ten in my head already. But we won't do it of course.
-
100%. It's unspeakable that chin-stroking bellends think some nebulous idea that if we don't play over Christmas we're suddenly going to win the world cup? Get to fu ck. Sky generation armchair fans who have never gone to a football match with friends and family in their entire lives. Christmas Day = build up to boxing day fixtures just after I've woken up halfway through Doctor Who.

That one was better that this latest leak (which seems to be legit).
-
If we came our and said from now on our kit is the sash and we firmly committed to it for, say, five consecutive seasons then fine. It's unique and would be interesting if we tried to own that look. The sash kit is still not plain white, and what you're advocating is not the sash kit. The demand for the white cup final kit is a red herring. It was a late development and we couldn't get it to market in time, so it was concentrated demand from completists and keenos who wanted the memento. No evidence that if that became our home kit the demand for that would be greater than for the home kits we've released over the last few seasons.
-
How is sending us out in a plain white home kit "playing it safe"? We don't play in white, it's not our kit, it would be effing stupid to do that.
