  1. I don't know why there are multiple arguments like this harking back to the likes of Lallana and Mane etc etc. If we stay up next season we still haven't got a Lallana and we haven't got a Mane. And we've been pretty sh it in this division this season. No one is saying we'd rather be in the Championship than finish 6th in the Prem as we did under Koeman. But what some are saying is that being in the Championship next year might not be so bad if the prospect is another drab Prem season of nothingness. And the chances are we are going down so you can post all the comments you like - at some point you'll have to get used to it.
  2. I did say "by the time we get to end of the season". Basically I could be bothered to add up last season and the 33 we've played this. There are plenty of pretty tedious Prem seasons we've had in our history and nothing to suggest that next season is going to see us "playing our best football" or whatever if we stay up. I'm perfectly reconciled with idea that a Championship season could just as enjoyable as another drab Prem season.
  3. Jesus wept.
  4. Nor would I, and I didn't in the post you quoted.
  5. By the time we get to the end of this season, I wouldn't describe the last 76 matches as "the best Saints football in decades". Whereas the last 92 matches in L1 and the Championship, I would. Absolutely brilliant. And they meant a hell of a lot more than "less than f'all". But that's just me.
  6. TV coverage/streaming is the main thing and it's nice being high profile. But the Championship is brilliant in that there are so many mid week games and from a personal perspective there are loads of aways I can do, and it's a piece of pi ss to get home tickets when I do return to the city. Just a shame that the EFL have chucked their broadcasting rights in the bin to Talksport and Channel 5 (soon to be QUEST).
  7. The exciting thing about the Championship is the top two seems to be different every season, so it's impossible to predict who will be successful.
  8. Bexy's mum's been on the telly again.
  9. Bizarre. Why would Lallana need convincing to sign for Liverpool? Anyone with any recollection of the events of that summer knows that he wanted to go the minute the offer was in.

    Drums

I imagine we will hear a bit of drumming at Leicester this week, they go in for a bit of that if I remember rightly.
  11. We finished 14th in his only full season in the Premier League. When he fuc ked off out of it we were eighth but nowhere near top four. The subsequent regime turned us into a team just a win away from the top four, though. Well done them.
  12. Here's me thinking Chelsea would want to qualify for the Champions League but it turns out they just want to win a game of psychological warfare against Southampron.
  13. We should have money in the bank, even ignoring the parachute payments. So we should be set for a Newcastle like scenario but nobody really knows. And, of course, having the money and the players may not be enough as we discovered with Burley.
  14. We have conceded three goals to West Ham and Newcastle in recent weeks. We aren't keeping a clean sheet against Leicester. I certainly admire your optimism but it's gone as far as I'm concerned. If it was us in Brighton's position I doubt you'd be saying we would be going down with five games left to get a point or two.
  15. The Championship really is pretty magnificent as a league with the sheer number of proper big clubs in big cities in it. I've not studied it but I doubt there is an equivalent elsewhere in Europe. Genuinely no shame for SFC to be in a division with Leeds and Forest and Wednesday and Villa (if they stay down). Relegation annoying and utterly avoidable but we've been in the Championship before and we were always going to go down at some point so bring it on.

    Claude Puel

We've handed the story to the Talksport/Sky/Tabloid pundit army on a plate (....what did Southampton expect if 8th isnt good enough, bet they regret that now etc etc etc). Urgh.
  17. Surely a replacement top class defender would cone from the same place we recruited VVD, Lovren, Fonte, Toby. Why, when we had an excellent record in signing top class defenders, is it suddenly impossible or unreasonable to expect us to sign a top class defender or two? We are allowed to buy a dud - Hoedt fair enough - but we should have replaced Fonte with soneone and lyin' Les also said that Hoedt was not VVD's replacement. It's the fact we didn't even try and get replacements.
  18. So even the optimists have got us getting to 35 points which is clearly not going to be enough. Huddersfield have got that now and even they'll scrape a point from their horrible run-in. It's going to be one of those boring seasons where the title and the relegation places are settled with plenty of games to spare. At least the three going down are similarly "established" Premier League clubs so we're not alone.
  19. Luckily Leicester haven't got much up front so we should be fine.
  20. Fenway are not owners that are going to put money in and expect nothing back. They're not and you know it. And neither are the Glazers which you also know but you "don't care" because it doesn't fit your point. Because you're wrong of course. Most owners try and run their clubs within their means rather than pour money in and expect nothing back. That's what "Most owners" do. Most debt write offs involve converting loans into equity, ie they still own the club (or more of the club). That's generally how it works.
  21. She's certainly implicated in that. One of the most avoidable relegations in the last decade.
  22. Most owners put their own money into clubs and expect nothing back? Most owners? Fenway Sports is a little old charity is it? Glazers did it from the kindness of their hearts? Even Chelsea are running a tight ship these days. And I don't know what I'm talking about. Okay then. Just that one sentence sums up the utter selfish "but why don't they spend spend spend spend because I want them to" attitude of the idiot football fan. Put it this way - the Matt Le Tissier consortium would not have unlocked the investment in all the things I've talked about. And nice you toss off "a few top eight finishes" like it's nothing for massive old Southampton. Well, I'm forty, don't remember the Lawrie years so that's as good as it has ever got in my Saints life. But yeah, she's greedy. She's the greedy one.
  23. That money wouldn't have come in without her there. She facilitated the investment. More than any other individual in the history of the club. And it went on infrastructure and players and youth development and the Training Ground and promotion and 8th, 7th, 6th, 8th, a cup final and two European campaigns. But hey, she's greedy and horrible and everything. And the fans still moaned and giped and complained and whinged. The fans aren't greedy ungrateful pri cks though. Let's see what we get next now the horrible person is going.
  24. Just remind me of an individual who has been responsible for putting more in than she has. Happy to wait.
  25. You're correct that would definitely keep us up.
