The general forum reaction would be "oh well, fair enough, he gave our season an early boost", or, possibly, a meltdown the same as when we sold him. Which do you think? If we do end up selling Fonte is he currently giving us an early season boost or is the whole thing just bloody annoyance dragging on and poisoning our season?

Not really. I think this thread is making it complicated by The9 beautifully digging into every permutation imaginable. On the day we finished sixth it was pretty much nailed for us to be a pot three seed in the EL, but some still want to go on the convoluted three month journey to establish that yes we are going to be a pot three seed.

I think we might end up with a nice surprise CB signing this window, for the reasons you say - not convinced Gardos is ever going to make it and poor old Yoshi needs to be relegated to League Cup bit-partness. Toby was a bit of a rabbit out of the hat two years ago so maybe we might have another one to go with our mystery attacker.
