  1. Correct. I believe most of our team work, and now face the dilemma of choosing football as a career or working and playing at a lower level.
  2. See there is the problem. I don’t, I remember Speedie & Dixon 😂
  3. Steady now 😂
  4. Love these photos
  5. Will be interesting to see what changes this brings about though, as it is a major game changer. You will now have these women who were playing and had day jobs, whether this is student, part time worker, full time worker, low earner, high earner, mother, or shelf employed, and then all of a sudden this is your job. So there will be loads of factors that each one of them need to think about. What is their career, and can they earn more from football, which is a short career. Their age, where are they on their career ladder on and off the pitch. What is the potential on the pitch, was last season realistically their height. What are Southampton FC’s ambitions and aspirations. Do they see themselves in the WSL and challenging for Europe? The individual players potential, do they think they could already earn more at a higher level, are other clubs after them? We already have a keeper who could play in the top flight. So it really is a game changer and reflects the mens game, but on a much lower scale. It will be about your own worth on the pitch, and at this stage does this out way the career path? This will only be a problem for a short amount of time, because down the line players will know they are wanting to play professional football. So right from development they will be looking to make it to the top and top earners or ambitious clubs. They will know early on if they are making the grade, again reflecting the mens game. It will become the career choice and you study along side it, and if you don’t make it, you follow another career. But for the here and now it is going to be tough, because some will not make the grade and others will come in. I am sure some will cherish the moments from the season just gone and carry on with a career outside of football, but play at a lower level. We have another Southampton team just a couple of leagues lower. Again like the mens game. You can have a career outside of football and still enjoy playing at an amateur level. It has been a truly amazing 12 months since we entered the league, and got promoted at the first time of asking, with a wonderful group of women. The future is very bright, but it also get serious. I for one cannot wait for the next season.
  6. Saints women turn full time. I knew they would. Great news. just think what this will mean to these players. Delighted for them and the club. Exciting times ahead for sure. https://www.southamptonfc.com/news/2022-05-25/womens-programme-full-time-southampton-football-club-25-may-2022
  7. Are you sure it was not Roody! 😃 Katie Rood!
  8. I have just written to the FA as well as the set up as it is, does not offer to much and for competition sake it needs to be reviewed I think. Of course if they do take notice of my ramblings and we finish 2nd from bottom next season, you can all blame me! Let me know your thoughts.
  9. Just wanted to get all talk on the woman’s team back in here. Still celebrating the promotion yesterday, but talk about pro, semi pro, fixtures, signings and really getting ready for life in the championship. I would personally like us to take the leap for paying £20/£25k a week on the woman’s squad, so we really are going full time and serious about the woman’s team. I think this will happen over the coming weeks.
  10. We have some class players who could and will be playing at a higher level. The good thing at the moment is that they are all ‘local’ players who live and work in the area and play for Southampton (like the old days with the mens team). I would like to see them turn professional, but then they will Jack in the day jobs and pretty much go where they are wanted, and get the bigger money at a WSL club. I would like to think that they will stay and see how next season goes, but on the flip side we will need to strengthen to complete, so bring some players in. Maybe from Watford or other championship clubs, or fringe WSL clubs. We can only really do this if we turn pro though, which I think we will over the coming months.
  11. I’m so so happy. What a great day and enjoyment that was. I think we played better against 11 women than we did 10. We were just knocking the ball about at the back, but without having too many opportunities in from of goal. When Wolves had the ball they had more purpose and looked more of a threat. We saw it out though and that’s the main thing. By far the better team in the first half and deserved the win. Going to be a different challenge next season, but looking forward to being able to go to a few away games. Up the Saints!
  12. Yeah and the premier league great end to the season 😴 is on Sunday. As you say though only Wolves and Saints fans are interested, and even then hardly!
  13. Not long now. Really looking forward to this one. 😊 Last chance to get your match day tickets and travel. https://www.southamptonfc.com/news/2022-05-16/ticket-and-travel-details-southampton-fc-women-national-league-play-off-final-21-may-2022
  14. Did they release the new kit?
  15. Out of all the teams in the premier league that Liverpool have played away this season we have at the moment, the worse possession, the least shots on target and the least shots off target. Spineless.
  16. What is this defence v attack mentality we have against the top teams. We are at home to another premier league team. I have looked at other teams home performances against Liverpool and at least they have a go and lose mainly but have a go for god sake.
  17. When do they let us see it. Tomorrow? Last home game after all.
  18. Yes eventually the old generation of dinosaurs will bugger off and people can just get on with their lives.
  19. I would say it is miles better, but I would not say it is acceptable full stop. I still know of families, especially those of a religious background who turn their back on gay people. I would say it is getting acceptable across the board but lacking in certain areas of society. I would still say football is one of those circles in society. You are right though, it is not as bad (all the time) as the media build it up to be and in turn put pressure on the individual.
  20. Yeah they will probably nick it and end above Spurs, not that I give a toss either way. But they are not looking like the team of a few weeks back. Strange inconstant season outside the top 2.
  21. You are quite right it is not anyone else’s business. But the more people that do come out in a high profile and highest followed sport globally then it will hopefully become more ‘expectable’ and the ‘norm’. This will not happen in our lifetime, but then people will not have to ‘come out’ you have to remember that even in 2022 families and friends turn against people who come out as gay, so a long way to go before they are excepted socially and in the football community. As soon as the dinosaurs die out or somehow they change their minds then there will be no need to come out and everyone can just get along with their own business.
  22. Because they want to come out, but feel they will not be excepted socially or even more so in the football community. He has already said how much a weight has been lifted. So that’s good for him yes?
  23. Considering the average is 1/10 I would expect every football club has at least 1 gay footballer in their squad in the professional male game. I am hoping that this will give them all the encouragement needed to announce their sexuality if they feel the desire to do so. If not it should not be out of fear. It is 2022 for god sake. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/61467159
  24. Now interesting games tonight as Arsenal look to rescue themselves and finish above Spurs and Luton and Huddersfield battle it out for a place at Wembley I’m going for Arsenal and Luton. So get your money on Newcastle and Huddersfield. 😉
  25. More trying to promote it, as there is a lack of that from the club. I could not care a shit if you or anyone else watch it at all. There was a game on, a cup final so mentioned it. it is quite nice to watch a Saints team progressing and winning games, but as I point out all the time, it’s not for all and I get that, but a lot of the time especially with Saints, supporters might not even know that things are happening like the playoff final, because it is so badly advertised by the club. The woman’s game is progressing well, on and off the pitch.
