Eddie Mitchell Stirs The Pot Before Cherries Game
Daren W replied to farawaysaint's topic in The Saints
How is he out performing Cortese? The players he employs are but not if we win our games in hand. He has a ramshackle 3 sided hovel of a stadium and no infrastructure... Cortese wins hands down methinks... -
I don't give a flying **** if it came from Osama Bin Laden, Lawrie deserved it... FFS can people not give it a rest...
-
So let me get this straight... No one has the slightest bit of proof that Lawrie has said anything about Cortese? No one has the slightest bit of proof that Lawrie has awarded himself anything In fact no one has the slightest idea of what Lawrie has or hasn't done. What we can say is how ignorant some people are on here when it comes to our genuine Saints legends. For some of us, our greatest Saints memories revolve around the man. To turn round and slate him as some people have done, without the slightest smidgeon of proof, is just disgraceful... If he had slated Cortese then he's entitled to his opinion! It's not a Fascist state, he has the right to an opinion. The fact that he gave us so many great memories entitles him to have his say... Right or wrong... Hang your heads in shame...

I think you'll find that was Rupert he was referring to... Nicola isn't really a posh name is it? -

So in other words despite one attempt, which was way off the mark, there was no mention of Cortese at all? It was just a genuine event, organised by genuine Saints fans. So when it transpired that the Ex Saints didn't have a beef with the club, certain people were all over this board demanding apologies. I wonder if they'll offering a apology for making assumptions about this event? -
Hold on a second here. are we now saying that Lawrie isn't entitled to say what he wants? There does seem to be a slightly fascist slant to all of this, you may not agree with what he says but he has every right to say it. If someone told you to keep your opinions to yourself, how would you react??
-
Could someone please explain to me what I have to apologise about?
-
Have you not heard???? Southampton only existed 2 years ago!! This whole 125th anniversary? It's 125 weeks... ffs, I'd have thought you have know that!

Pretty much true.. It's pretty shameful how people have turned on Matt, one poster on here even had the temerity to say that Matt wasn't so much loyal more lazy and stuck with Saints as it was just closer to home.. Show me one person, just one person, who thought that in the late 90's. They never existed . To a man we all adored Matt. I appreciate Cortese, appreciate what he's achieved here but I'm also just as appreciative that we had a player like Matt to make the quite awful 90's bearable... The way he's been denigrated on here by some people is just shameful...

Not one single person has picked up on this quote, funnily enough... "‘Now we are being told the ex-Saints, which is a charity that raises money for good causes and former players who have fallen on hard times, have been told they can’t use the club badge on any of its paraphernalia or literature." How come not one person has picked up on this?? The club refusing a charity using the club badge for their charity events? That's shocking, absolutely shocking. Just what cost does that incur the club? "Here's our gesture to the charity, the free use of the club badge/emblem." No much is it? It's amazing how blinkered people are by success, we're actually having people making excuses for one side and denigrating the other. So people assume that the reason the current players have been stopped attending a charity event is down to image rights? Image rights?? If you'd have said, the club may want to keep them matchday fresh then I'd have gone with that but Image rights? The morale thing has some validity but it's a mealy mouthed excuse none the less. It's really distasteful the way Mike Osman gets slagged off on her. Decent man who does a hell of a lot of work for charity. And "Lazy Guernsey man"?? Have we really sunk that low that the man who we absolutely worshipped can be called that? For your information Wes, we have no concrete facts from either side, does that entitle anyone to slag off a genuine Saints legend? Are we that desperate for success that we'll side with the club no matter what? I usually agree with you on a lot of things Wes but you're way off base with that comment... way off.. People have to judge the chairman independently. How would people be re-acting if, say, it was Rupert Lowe who had done this? Or Michael Wilde? Or Leon Crouch? Think outside your own personal agendas and ask yourself if one of those personalities, perhaps one you vehemently disliked, did this... what would you say? If it was negative, then if it was negative for Lowe or Wilde or Crouch then surely it's a negative for Cortese? I'm actually pro Cortese, I'm grateful that he saved this club and I'm grateful for the intelligent way the club has been run since but that doesn't mean the club is faultless. If Le Tiss and co are annoying them then surely the more dignified response is to be nice, to be accommodating, give them nothing to moan about. Stopping the use of a club logo for a charity, stopping players attending a charity function, is childish and spiteful...

So we know absolutely nothing about this or whether or not it's true but it must be Lawrie McMenemy so we can have an excuse to slag off a genuine Saints legend? It's funny how when people slag off Cortese, some posters get on their high horse and demand proof and yet when it comes to McMenemy they can believe the most tenuous of links (ie he'd been interviewed by the same reporter) and go off on a tangent slagging the man off to high heaven... And to think they then have the temerity to go on about people with agendas? Jeez... -
I think Saints have come out of this very well, the empathsis being on what's best for the player and not the club. I guarantee you hundreds of parents will be looking at that and thinking Southampton would be a good place for their prodigious offspring...
-
Such a shame for Newcastle and Liverpool fans though, always a pleasure to see so called big clubs realising there are bigger fish in their pond...
-
Spot on, we need cover, nothing more...
-
Disagree, I want the title more than anything else. I want it for Markus, I want for my mum and I want it for every Saints fan who's not here today to enjoy it...
-
Good point, perhaps I should have said Trophies as opposed to history as the two are very different, and I do believe that in terms of players, managers and history we are the better club...
-
lol Oh the irony...
-
Quick question, I've been arguing with some skates on another messageboard about the two clubs and I'd be interested your opinions; honest opinions... What, right now, is more important? a) History and let's be honest Pompey have a more illustrious history than us with two top flight titles and holding on to the FA cup when the rest of the world was fighting Hitler.. or b) The right here and now, and lets be honest, Saints are a healthy, stable, thriving club, on the verge of something really special.. I know what I think is more important but football is always about the past with our obsessions about stats etc. So what is more important?

"What's that??? We HAVEN'T strengthened the squad???? We'll never get promotion now..."
