Savage suggests Moyes should buy a load of Southampton players.....
Killers Knee replied to petermcpete's topic in The Saints
RVP - great striker but a little fragile, needs to man-up. Carrick - solid DM, will keep MS, JC and VW on their toes. Vidic - Make a great partner for the best CB in the premiership. Thats all I would take from their squad. -

Moyes already stated in the summer he has an unlimited budget, if he goes shopping in January he will get bent over the negotiating table. -
SRL has been an offside passenger all half, expect Osvalso to start the 2nd. JR and VW having absolute stormers, Shaw still looks a bit out of it from the early injury. We are still in this.

If Jos can play 90 minutes without giving away a penalty or scoring an OG then his 90 minutes will have been a success. Can't see Saints winning now, but a nil all boredraw would be a great result if we can manage to park the bus.

Listening to Roy, could we become the No1 choice club for young English footballers? http://talksport.com/football/hodgson-southampton-has-become-new-hotbed-english-football-13110767275

Against teams that pass from the back I think we play better with him in the team, would like to see him have a run of games though. TBH I'd also like Gaston to have a run of games at 10 as well. Spoilt for choices, top-half of the table problem....

A serious transfer window review thread...
Killers Knee replied to Unbelievable Jeff's topic in The Saints
We now have a good squad, the best since the 80's. We have strengthened well through the spine, we still need some players to find form and MP needs time to find a balance to the first team. I am not concerned about the width/pace issue, I believe JRod and Ramirez can offer that. I am concerned about the Jack/Spider engine to the team no longer functioning and I would have liked to see an international statesman come in at AMC to challenge/train/mentor Lallana for a year, but I suppose that is stuff of computer games. Defensively we look good, Fonte seems to have improved or Lovren is picking up the slack very impressively, either way that pairing is working well. I would like to see another LWB to challenge Shaw, the current incumbent offers no challenge whatsoever. Now looking forward to the balance being found, players finding form, some good results and a surprise in the January window. -
Still think he will come good, we need to find the correct balance in Attacking Midfield. Possibly on the right flank with Lallana inside and Rodriguez on the left.
-
They certainly will not have Man Utd or Chelsea worried but they are definitely competing with us and West Ham for position. I think we have the capacity for improving our performances with the existing squad, hopefully MP can deliver. I agree we could have beaten them if it wasn't for the team selection, tactics and substitutions which were all a bit crap.
-
The result wasn't too bad, only lost by one goal to a team very much our equals. There were positives: Boruc, Lovren, Lallana and Fonte (looks way better than previous seasons). IMO we have problems with balancing a first 11. We lack squad depth in full back positions, the Spider/Jack pairing needs to be reinstated, MP needs to make a brave choice about Lambert and Osvaldo and VW needs to play middle of the three behind the striker and put pressure on GR for that role. AL and JR/JWP competing for the flanking AM roles.

Absolutely this, Spider/Jack partnership was a long way from requiring a fix, needs to be reinstated.

Post Match Reaction & MotM: SAINTS 1-1 Sunderland

Ha ha, happened to me when a Wolves playing Andy Gray shot was just wide of the post at the Dell in the 80's. I was stood front row of Milton end, hands in pockets, ball straight in the face. Was only about 11yrs old, didn't half smart. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2 -
rock, paper, scissors.

The Guardian predict 14th place finish for Saints

A UK sports journo who actually knows his trade, well done that man, you got your paper a new customer. Bang on assessment as it stands today, without further injury or signing. -
As it stands, do we have a better midfield than Utd?
Killers Knee replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
On their day we have a midfield that can compete toe to toe and even better theirs. Not sure our boys can perform as consistently, that is where SAF was genius. On a side note I expect SD to have a big season and outshine AL. Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk 2 -
Philipp Hosiner would be good, but Austria Vienna have progressed to the play-off round of Champs League. If they are eliminated by Dinamo Zagreb we'll have 3/4 days to get his signature, although he may be content with Europa league.
