Well now you know who he was, why not investigate..? John Martyn's music was always an experience. There's plenty of people who hadn't a clue who Nick Drake was until many years after he died, and now he's practically a cult figure. Check these people out. Just because they made music in the past doesn't mean they're suddenly off the menu.

Absolutely no excuse at all. There are people of 18 who have heard of John Martyn.
-
Now why isn't this a surprise..?

Sorry to be pedantic old chap, but just like his name, first it was the Rudi thread, then came the Skacel one. I was too busy to delete either, at the time. Perhaps I'll get around to merging them. Haven't done a merge threads in ages.
-
Just picked this up on the other Skacel thread. But I've provided the link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/7858760.stm Shame. I liked Skacel, and I kind of understand why he wants to go.

I suppose with his lifestyle John Martyn was always going to go early. But 60 is no age at all. I've got a few of the bloke's albums, including Solid Air. A one-off. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/glasgow_and_west/7858458.stm

Who is it on here who has an obsession with 2001 - A Space Odyssey..? Well I watched it again last night. I enjoyed almost as much as when I saw it at the cinema back in the late 60's. Utterly superb film. So special, it almost makes its own genre.

Yes, I confess it. I've been recording Poldark from UK History onto my DVD/HDD recorder every day so that I can edit out the adverts and burn the episodes to disc. But you've got to realise, this was the sort of stuff that I used to watch just before putting on my jacket and getting down to the pub on a Sunday evening. It evokes superb deja vu..! I'll probably get a lifetime ban for admitting this.

Rudi doesn't have fast pace, but he has skill and will mix it. Would be a popular choice.

Well done BBB. Appreciate your efforts SL.

OK, you find the rest then. There's the whole of Radio Solent's listen again facility to wade through. You're the best person to know where to look - off you go. I'll be expecting to hear the full interview later. Ta.
-
Err... look above your post.

Still a nice take on a song: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xEtJP1V6T-U

When was this exactly..? Radio Solent programmes are available to listen to again up to 7 days after the event. So if anyone knows the programme and the day, we could all have a listen to LC's comments. EDIT: Sorry DAY should have been TIME. I'm aware it was today [28th Jan, and before 8.30am] so presumably, that means Julian Clegg. Perhaps you can help look: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/p0020ml8 ANOTHER EDIT: Found something - Go about 1 hour and 54 mins into the show. You'll be in the middle of a report on Saints match against Norwich. I believe Crouch follows with comments. No charge..!

Yeah, that's about it. To be fair to him, he didn't start the hullabaloo though. In fact, I'm not sure who did, but it certainly did start. He has failed to live up to expectations, but I still hope he'll be in the side, and playing in the position that he played for Hearts, and made him such an expectation for Saints. And give a performance I still think he could if his heart was in it. Can't really blame him for being less than totally committed to the cause though. In my opinion, he's been let down almost as much as we have.

Suggest the user remembers the password..? And perhaps develops a little memory technique to stop it happening again.

Missed this post before. Completely agree.

Yeah. Excellent comment from the era. It was a very, very good team at the time. Able to withstand, and soak up pressure, and yet have the confidence, ability and belief, to patiently win the game. People nod their heads sagely and say, we'll never see a team like that again. But I'll never say that. There's always hope around the corner. It just might be a long, long way off.

Point taken. Shall I amend my post by saying that generally knuckle draggers don't head up multi-million pound businesses, and that it usually takes someone of reasonable intelligence.
-
Don't know if all are aware of this, but if you have Realplayer 11 [the basic free version will do], you can download the video. You don't have to watch and wait. Just let the thing play itself out and then move your Mouse over the video. A Download This Video popup will appear, and almost instantly you'll have your own copy of the footage. Better than coming on here in 6 months time asking where that odd 5-a-side video went.

Yes, I entirely agree Derry. But we have to work with what we have, at present. We can fervently hope for a change in the Board setup, and we can protest towards a change. But Lowe & Co are at the helm at this moment, and we have to stomach it for a while. However painful that may be.
-
Then what are you waiting for man..? Get down there and do your stuff..! The day Leon Crouch first opened his mouth and ranted [yes he did] about Saints, fans who heard him did a little mental step back. They weren't sure whether this man was the real deal. I thought he sounded like a bit of a knuckle dragger. But knuckle draggers don't have the nounce to head up multi-million pound businesses and make them thrive. They don't have personal fortunes in the millions either. So we have to give LC some credit for knowing the his way round a balance sheet, how hard to work, and how intelligent he needs to be. But he's opened his mouth many times since, and it gets easier on the ear. Among the passionate words there is a lot of sense. There's no doubt the man is a fan. Anyone who can stand up in a AGM and throw down the gauntlet to the current Board, as he did, is not there for laughs. As to his tenure last season, I think he did OK. Not great, but he was finding out what it was all about heading up a football club. He dipped into his own pocket to save the odd situation, rather than let things fester. And yes, he let a debt build up, but I suspect it wasn't all of his own doing, and besides, he had one eye on actually trying to do something, rather than budget the club to relegation. Yes, he made mistakes. But he got it right in the end. Then, in the close season, all that he did was completely dismantled. I think Saints would be higher up the table with LC in the Chair. I'm almost certain [certain..? how can anybody be completely sure, the rate Saints change managers] we would still have Nigel Pearson as Manager. I think LC would see the value of occasionally strengthening the squad, and transferring out the people who don't perform. Earlier in the season, I had a conversation with a friend who questioned my suggestion that... at most, 5,000 supporters were staying at home because of the present Board setup, such is the hatred of the present regime... Now I think there would be at least 5,000 extra supporters in the stadium. That's higher revenue, and it creates a better feeling all round. So right at this very moment, I'm in the camp which would rather have LC at the helm; with of course, the ideal being that there is a complete takeover from a new, rich owner. What I'll be thinking at the end of the season, who knows..? Mark Wotte may have changed everything round. I bloody well hope he does, because I hate being a Saints supporter, and having no faith in the people who run the club.
-
Always said that Marek knows where the goal is. Give him the service and he delivers. Last season he got zero. Thankfully, then Stern John also hadn't forgotten, and he was getting any service when it eventually appeared. Which was rare enough.

There are worse accidents to have. The next time I buy a good single Malt, I might try tripping over the sofa in the dark having placed the whisky at a safe, but recoverable distance. Could be fun.
-
Of course the key is home wins. The away wins and draws have actually kept Saints in with a fighting chance, but it's home wins that'll save this club from going down. Keep the unlikely away form going and turn the home defeats and draws into wins and this club goes up the league and not out of it by the back door.
