I have a secondhand mobile phone. I think there might be a run on them now.

I said earlier in the thread not to let my pedantic side free. I even went back to my post no.57 and corrected an error, just a minute ago. It's a disease. But one I'd rather suffer from than not being able to speak or spell reasonably well. F***ing hate typos, too. But ESB's pendantic is great. Being a pendant. One who, by correcting others, gives himself (or herself) just enough rope by which to hang. Bill: "That bloke's a total pendant." Ben: "I think you mean 'pedant,' mate." Bill: "I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant. BTW, is this noose too tight?" Yeah, I like that.

For prime examples, one has only to trot off to the main board and read... He should of passed to Lallana. He could of brought us back into the game. I would of taken [insert poor bloody blighter's name here] off. Sadly, it's people once again falling foul to poor pronunciation in their learning years, because should've, could've, would've, a contraction of should have, etc.. sounds a bit like should of, etc.. I think my absolute pet hate though is certain people's unability to pronounce the th in throw, through, three, etc.., substituting an f. This isn't because they're thick, although they may have a poor listening ear; it's because they've learned it from someone else. I know someone who used to pronounce the f rather than the correct th in all the words that are affected, and he quietly asked me to teach him how to speak the words correctly. It took him about 5 minutes after I showed him. Immediately, he realised he sounded as if he'd increased his IQ from under-average to over-average. He's an intelligent bloke, and nowadays the barsteward has a bloody good job, because he comes up trumps in interviews.

That's kind of what I was trying to illustrate. There's a difference between somone being passed by someone else due to being consistently much slower, and someone actually slowing down over a period of laps, watching a teammate pass, and then getting the lap times back to very quick again.

As was letting Keane and Berbatov go, with Defoe keeping them honest. An established partnership that shouldn't have been broken up. Well, if you're a Spurs fan, it shouldn't have, anyway. Wonder how Gareth Bale feels this evening..? Sent off, and bottom of the league. What a difference a little time makes. Walcott's career was going nowhere only 12 months ago and, of the pair, he's now the man to be.

I believe Australians have a tendancy to use that expression, as well as that other term, which they stretch, i.e You [singular] to Yous [plural].

Hmm, as long as nothing actually happened along with the noise, I tend to think they'd give it a go. Having now seen the Chinese GP, I have to comment on the Raikkonen/Massa pass, late in the race. It may not have been official team instructions to let Massa through, but let's not be in any doubt that before the race, I'm sure the Ferrari drivers were made aware [especially Raikkonen, who looked embarrassed in the post race interview] of what was expected of them. Any other team could possibly have been penalised, but of course, McLaren weren't about to protest, so no action taken. They may need to do something similar at Interlagos, in any case. Like the MotoGP today, not a great race for the casual watcher, but enough fun for the keen. A disciplined and fast drive by Hamilton helped me to stayed awake.

Bit late commenting on this thread, but my 5 eggs worth is that we have nobody else who is remotely qualifed to do the job. Lowe and Wilde have burned our bridges and fully committed us tothe cheap option with JP and his methods with young players. We have to stick with it, and either progress, which is entirely possible, as JP has never actually failed at anything in the past; keep our heads above water until a takeover with money happens, or drown. At the moment, the jury must be out.

Well, tbf Ponty, both drivers have had similar performances, and Massa has only been truly superior since his points advantage piled up, and even then Raikonnen has been in with a shout. Yesterday, to prove it, he was second fastest in qualifying. Kovalainen has simply been a lot slower than Hamilton, which incidentally, either says a lot about the Ferrari as a car, or about how good Hamilton is as a driver. I won't mention how good I think Heikki is, because you would have a lot more data on that than I would. BTW, my first time in watching theChina GP coming up.

I can't believe they make so much of nothing. Of course, they daren't actually consider as a black power fist pound. Y'see..? I'm even getting into it. Nice to see Ali G showing the shallowness of it all. So much so, even the presenters laughed. The Media will find the most insignificant things to twist.

Good stuff. Reminds me that my Dad used to say honour with the aitch sounded out, as in how and hover. It used to drive me mad, but at his age, he'd earned the right to say words however he liked, and he wasn't going to change. He also used to pronounce a few other words with a U.S. slant, particularly new, which he pronounced noo, dual, which he pronounced dool, and a couple of others I can't remember ATM. My cousin has absolutely no connection with the U.S.A., but he has a curious penchant for calling every identifiable part of a car or motorbike by its U.S. label. Every time he mentions one in company, everyone else will chorus the GB label. For example, he might say... the car broke down, so I lifted the hood... we'd all shout BONNET..! He mentioned one the other day about his motorbike. He'd gone around a corner quite smartly and scraped the footpeg. Footrest, I immediately retorted.

Don't get me started..! Think I'd better get the mower and strimmer out for a while, otherwise I might be swallowed up by the pedantic side. It's hell in there, you know.
-
Yeah, that one gets me too. Especially when people believe it to mean a mute point; i.e. something which the people concerned should be quiet about. Rather than moot point, meaning a talking point, or something of possible disagreement to the people concerned and worth talking over. People even say... mood point, whatever that is.

Special mentions must go to young Brit Bradley Smith, coming second in the 125cc race. Perhaps a World Champ of the future. He still racing with a lot of riders older and more experienced than himself, except for his fellow Brit racers. And finally, Rossi's little dog Guido died last week. They showed a little cartoon pic of the dog with angel wings sprouting from it. He's getting another tomorrow, and naming it... Guido..! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/7678480.stm

This race didn't hit the highlights for the dip-in viewer, but there was still plenty of interest all down the line for people who know the riders, and the championship. In qualifying, Dani Pedrosa was on pole, followed by Rossi and Lorenzo. Stoner was off the pace, but everyone had had a bit of an odd qualifying session due to fast changing weather. Hence James Toseland was 12th on the grid, despite being a lot faster than quite a few, even his teammate, Colin Edwards. On to the race itself. Weighing no more than a flea, Pedrosa predictably got his Honda off the line, as also predictably, Rossi was once again swallowed up by fellow racers. It wasn't for long though, as he quickly worked his magical way through the people who'd had the temerity to overtake him at the start. Meanwhile, JT, who'd been rather p!ssed off with being 12th in qualifying, made up several places before the front end washed out. That ended his race. From that point the race split into two. Pedrosa and Rossi dashed off into the distance, while a glut of riders, inlcluding Lorenzo, Dovizioso, Hayden, Stoner, Nakano, competed for 3rd place. People were climbing all over each other, while the programme director concentrated on the Pedrosa/Rossi battle. It was perhaps understandable, as Rossi was following Pedrosa like a shadow, although he was having to hang his leg out as a wind brake occasionally to help stop his bike. Inevitably, the magnets finally drew Pedrosa in, as Rossi took a tight left-hander way out on the outside, but cleverly used the speed to power down the straight to pass Pedrosa and keep him behind under braking. He then proceeded to pull away, with his Yamaha uncharacteristically twitching as he gave it the maximum amount of beans. The race then switched mainly to the 3rd place battle, and Andrea Dovizioso and Nicky Hayden were having a hell of a battle. Lorenzo binned it with another front end dive. A shame as he was still in the hunt for 3rd. At this point, this is where a little championship knowledge helps. AD rides on a privateer 2007 Honda, and NH is on the 2008 factory machine. Rookie AD has been extremely quick all season, and 2006 World Champion NH has said that Honda barely recognise him when he walks in the garage. Nevertheless, when NH has gone well, he's justified more attention than he gets, and has beaten his teammate Pedrosa quite a few times this year. NH is off to factory Ducati next year, and should do well riding a bike which suits his style. AD replaces NH at factory Honda next year. Bet he often does better than Pedrosa too. So, back to the race for 3rd place with Hayden trying to save a bit of face. The pair had swapped places a couple of times, and finally Hayden decided enough was enough. He lined Dovizioso up and out braked him at the end of the straight, only to run wide, in which Dovizioso dived up the inside. But Hayden had the better line for the next tight left hander, and got his bike in front. Off he disappeared... no..! Within 3 corners, Dovizioso got him back, and there it stayed. Despite Hayden squirming his Honda all over the place in pursuit, Dovizioso kept a defensive line, and got his podium finish. Hayden may have been disappointed, but the 2007 Honda was a fast bike, and the privateer Honda does run the same 2008 pneumatic valve engine as the factory machine. Which explains how Nakano eventually got past Stoner, who clearly had a bit of a tyre problem in the latter stages again. His saving grace was that he cemented his 2nd place in the championship over Pedrosa. So, just 5 days to Valencia practice and they do all again for the last time this season, and the occasion for people without rides for next season to really impress. But often he got away with it, as the stewards looked the other way. Even the video replays.

Never be ashamed of doing well in anything positive. People who get pleasure from failure from non-mainstream knowledge are just herd losers. Never fall into the trap of the sheep-like attitude to enjoy being bad at non-fashionable things. Bollix to that mentality. Be individual. You can at least celebrate your excellent memory, or the fact that you're extremely observant, if nothing else.

I was looking for that myself on their website, to suggest to exit2, but it's an offer that's a few days old now, so you can't see it. I think they still have them in stock though, but you'd have to pick your store. DiVX/DVD and HDMI too, at £35, I think. Nearly bought one myself, but I still have my Targa DiVX/DVD player from them 2 years ago, that cost £20 at the time [i still pinch myself at that price..?] and still plays perfectly in all its covered formats whenever called upon.
-
I agree with DSM. If you also have a HDD/DVD recorder, you can also the play the file to the recorder, edit it, and then copy to DVD. Easy, and the quality stands up well, unlike in a lot of DiVX/DVD conversions.

Now I like all aspects of the animal world, but Great White Sharks are the bloody limit. I honesty find little beauty in them. So little that when I read that a rogue female Killer Whale was biting massive chunks out of passing Great Whites, and thereby bumping them off, I positively cheered.

50 people on the main forum, but you'd have to be committed to go on there. [see what I did then..?]

Banish Friday evenings and tie people to their computers, rather than do something else for once..?

Sadly I got it before I got to the parenthesis text.
