I agree wholeheartedly, but the purpose of this thread is to show how crap our recruitment is. Based on what's happened so far, whoever is responsible for it (Lowe, JP, Wotte. a.n. other?) should be out of the door sharpish if we are to have a hope of staying up.

Utd, with only about 3 or 4 regular first-team players, will coast to a 1-0 or 2-0 half-time lead and then take their foot even further off the gas. Final score 3-0.

Given the current make-up of the squad and obvious team deficiencies (e.g. lack of goals and inability to defend set pieces), does anyone think the signings of Smith and Molyneux (who remember has no first-team experience, so may be well short of CCC standard) will really help address our slides towards relegation? Moreover, of all the people we've signed (loan or permanent) since the end of last season, who have been unqualified successes? Cork probably, but he seems to be on his way. Morgan has looked very promising, but has probably been absent 50% of the time due to various injuries. Some would say Holmes, although not me personally. In any event, he is a player with a history of injuries who has been injured for a good chunk of the season so far. It really just leaves a long list (Forecast, Pulis, Gasmi, Robertson, Peckhart, etc) who, in half a season, have had little or no positive impact on the first team. Even allowing for the finances, it's shockingly bad recruitment, whoever is responsible for it.

Because they seem to be a club on the way up?

Can't imagine he, Lallana or Surman will play, as being cup-tied will reduce their value.

Saints Greatest XI - Best Left Midfielder Poll

I think you'll find that Paine, Bridge and Matty will! -
The Dell: Matty's screaming volley to get a last minute draw v Newcastle under Souness. SMS: probably Bale's free-kick first home game of the season v Coventry 2 seasons ago.

Mine is simply... "How could you?"

I was about to make exactly the same point, using the same quote, but you've put it better than I would have done!
-
I'll have some of what you're on please!

To answer your first point, I see no worthwhile future for this club with Lowe in charge, whether we stay up or not. If we went down and Lowe left (not that I think for one moment that the former would lead to the latter), I could at least envisage, over time, the club recovering from its current position. Happy New Year to all of you too.

Add England regaining the Ashes and you have a perfect sporting year! Of the above, the second is by far the most important imho.

21,044, as I predicted on another thread
-
Could one of the statistically-minded among you please produce tables showing: 1. Summary of points to games for matches in which Lancashire has played compared to those in which he has not; 2. (After today's game) a breakdown of our CCC results during calender year 2008, broken down between managers? (I think the total points is probably very low.) If the latter can be expanded to compare our results with other CCC teams, all the better. Thanks

21,044 I reckon

Not by me! I made the same point.

I thought I was the only one who thinks he is completely overrated by most on here! If he gets some space he just hits aimless balls into the box. (Yes, I know we don't have forwards getting into the box, but that still makes his crosses aimless!) By the way, how many people still think Simon Gillett is 'the new Paul Scoles', as was widely being touted on here after we'd beaten a side 1-0 that hadn't won for a year?

are the senior players becoming restless?

Saints Greatest XI - Nominations For Best LM

With MLT as a central midfielder, Armstrong would surely have to be picked, although a case could be made for Holmes or CMFG. If Williams had been picked in central midfield with Ball, Sydenham (or MLT) might have been a better option. Huxford was before my time. -
Am I mistaken, or did the third Dutch coach - I forget his name - start working with the players after the Reading game?
