Oh come on Minty, are you surprised? Most of us acknowledge the failings of the team whilst appreciating the strengths. The criticisms are not for the content but the presentation and that why most people don't play the ball: there's really no point in picking it apart constructively. Good grief, I can only comment through what I see from quotes, and that's bad enough.

Sod me! A lesson in playing the percentage game and then finishing. We weren't bad but we lacked a bit of yeast in the mix. The worse thing is now listening to some of our own supporters who come across as opposition fans on a wind-up.

Well, sodding SportItalia isn't showing the game so I've only seen the last 15 minutes on a stream after rushing back from the bar and that seems a fair summary from what I've seen. Our passing forward has generally been good - not to much square and backwards - but crossing has been poor. De Ridder on for Chaplow - hampered by that card perhaps. As long a the team are less panicky than us.....

Ah, sorry. I didn't realise your bank manager didn't like you AT ALL.. Perhaps he found out you were a football fan from the south coast: guilt by association and all that...

You could head down to Italy using the route I do: Dunkirk, Luxembourg (fill up with fuel!), then Nancy, Metz, Besancon, Pontarlier and over the Great St Bernard Pass with it's fantastic views and into Italy. Turin is worth a visit then pootle across northern Italy getting fatter, perhaps visiting Ferrari or the Italian Lakes. That way you also avoid French motorway tolls [and NEVER buy fuel on French motorways - always come off to some supermarket] although you'll need a motorway carnet for Switzerland. It's certainly a more interesting route than hacking down the middle of France on the motorway, and I find I save a fortune on fuel by relaxing and keeping the revs down! Chuck in a tent and you could occasionally save some money which I'd prefer to spend on good food and decent wine. Try staying at agriturismo/i in Italy for pig out local meals in nice locations.

No probs, I'm feeling magnanimous.;-) Earnt a bit teaching this morning, skied fresh powder under blue skies then came home to the first class entertainment this thread represents - it constantly gets better in a succession of laughs, dropped jaw in amazement and wicked chuckles at Pompey's plight. I know, when it rains we all make a dash for the dugout: does our manager's head in.. Actually I'm going to lie through my teeth at training tonight and tell the manager I've a meeting on Friday so won't be able to train - the first time this season I've bunked off. There had better be a stream! I'm not a rich bugger like DP so can't make the end of the season. July, August and first 2 weeks in September I'm not teaching so when does next season start: I need to start planning?

Funnily enough I've felt the same on previous occasions, watching him as I'd seen his name mentioned on here, but as you point out yesterday I began to see his qualities. If he does go to a bigger club, all well and good, but as SSOTN points out, it might be a mistake for him to go to a very big club...

Just watched the extended highlights on Saints Player. Difficult to get a proper impression but it looked pretty comfortable from what I saw. Crowd sounded OK too. Of their players the only one we might want would be Clyne perhaps, as long as he's not marking someone tall, particularly in dead ball situations: he's got the bit of pace we lack in defence.

I think this Saturday post by St Chalet has more than a ring of truth to it: well, being richer than the Pompey Trust that is.
