I have to say the notion of an appeal disturbs me too. All pilots want to build their hours but Ibbotson was culpable too and apparently not the most accurate of pilots. My best friend has not long got her PPL (H) and one of the reasons I feel safe going up with her is because if there is any issue - with the conditions, the aircraft, whatever, I know she'll say NO.

Good old Vesty, playing his old mate onside..

As I mentioned above the story I heard is that Rupert asked the goalkeeping coaches about him when he was offered as part of the Bale deal. They told him that Forecast was crap, and Rupert, I suspect not wanting to believe him because he wanted to do the deal, asked how he knew. "Because it's my job" replied the coach/scout. The rest is history.. Mind you, you have a good point as to how he was ever offered a contract by Spurs: maybe early promise never materialised?

Wish Rupert had said that when we were offered Tommy Fourpast. The goalkeeping coach told him to do so but was ignored..

Thanks, that's saved me a few quid going down the pub to watch..
-
Surely that would be one reason why he'd stay well away?!
-
The other thing I noted was how well-weighted some of the passes were. Behind the defender but not overhit so that the covering player/keeper could collect. There seems to be a good level of skill and I can't see how someone like Dan Nduludu will ever make the grade with us compared with this cohort of players as he just doesn't have the touch.

"Good character"? I haven't heard that in connection with L.D. before! @Chez is a poster whose opinions I respect and, like T.War, I see that he surmises that the use of substitutes last season was very much in the context of their quality. No manager, apart from Bare Bones 'Arry, is going to ruin morale by painting this fact too explicitly in public. This season we have more options (at the moment..) and are able to rotate and rest players. I'd like to see Livramento given a rest on the bench after the targeting by Villa, and have him available to bring on to hopefully nail Norwich's coffin down. As for playing him further forward, now is not yet the time. From full back he runs into space made by others and playing him further forward is not going to automatically strengthen that side.

You're not in block 9 are you? I have somebody like that near me..

Me too, although I can get where I'm going by the 10.30 and change at Havant. So if a puffing older woman comes past you it's me ignoring my doctor's orders not to strain my heart. Apparently I shouldn't have been playing those 90 minutes of football in September and October! Sensible shoes and loitering around the entrance is the way to go as I hate leaving before the final whistle. Hope there's no injury time..

That's my view too, and it's good to see they aren't hiding and shirking responsibility. I had an ex-coach as a colleague once and he highlighted how a particular player (not Saints) was "hiding" by the positions he took up and it's the sort of thing I've noticed since then.

Well, they're fellow football fans. It's part of the illness for all fans..

Quoting from Emery after the game last night..: “I have been told of their interest and I pretty much don’t have more news than that. There is no offer, which in any case would have to come via the club. So there’s no more beyond that [which would make] me say I’m going.” From the article I read:

Greener pastures? 🙂 Ok, I'll certainly give you better paid.. That's why we need to win on Friday!
-
No, next time..
-
So it wasn't that biased an edit then! Thanks.. 🙂

Beat Villa 4-0. Highlights on the OS. Tella scored a penalty, Lewis Payne got 2. It's a club edit so difficult to tell but not much from Villa..
-
From what I saw of the game tonight there was an awful lot of hoof ball from both sides, and Villa looked really disjointed. What was Ings ostensible reason for joining them again?
-
Thanks, fortunately I'm heading East past enemy territory..

Get soaked and miss the last train home..

I presume ex-footballers become commentators when they don't want to do the hard work getting their coaching badges. Mind you, I watched a bit of a programme the other day whilst I was looking for a Saints stream where two ex-pros (I think..) were dissecting Manchester United's (non) performance against Liverpool. It was quite detailed stuff but also highlighted and contrasted for me how well Saints do their press. I was very late in learning to drive but I could still tell who was and wasn't a good driver! Obviously more experience in any field enables a more detailed critique, but you don't have to be a professional in anything to be able to comment in at least a slightly informed manner.

I mentioned this on my football team's chat last night and I hope we can get a group together to go, I certainly shall but it's more difficult as they're mainly Pompey fans and heading west is difficult for them!:-) As for the troll, he's one of the very few people I've ever put on ignore in 25+ years on the internet, so I always appreciate it if he isn't quoted. From the threads he starts you'd think he was all for BLM, LGBT and the like, plus he posts on women's football. Unfortunately his only inputs are negative, disparaging and disruptive and can even be personal (hence the ignore).

You clearly maybe weren't there! 🙂

Good point. We might have a strong bench! For all we like to theorise about team line-ups we don't know the background details like fitness, people carrying knocks and so forth. For all I sometimes find any managers' decision strange, whether line-ups or subs, I do accept that there may be reasons I don't know about..
