As a moderator don't you think you should try and stay above the level of Cabbage Face et. al.?

Man City 6-1 defeat dissection post match thread.
suewhistle replied to saint lard's topic in The Saints
The great thing about being otherwise engaged on a Sunday is that I managed to miss watching the game. Saw on my phone at HT that we started with an og by Hoedt, and conceded in the last minute of the half, so all seemed to be going as forecast. I heard a bit of Solent which described a few promising moves, they detailed just how much MC had paid for their individual players, JWP seemed to be playing well and then I lost interest again and it was no surprise when they scored a couple more. I haven't fallen out of love with football yet: I was playing, we won and I scored a goal, but the Saints aspect is getting increasingly depressing. -
I respect you and your faux outrage. Can you please take this to the muppet show.

..and only if the rest of the panel were Afro-caribbean!

My feelings exactly. I missed the email from the club when it came out saying I could get a ticket, but I'm really not in the mood tp spend more watching a dire football team and being taken advantage of by another club as well.

What is the old saying "justice is like The Ritz, open to all"..? What Sir PG should be considering is that no one hearing the news has been the least bit surprised it was him. You do have to wonder why he was paying 7 figure sums for people to keep quiet. As for the fact that a couple of people wanted to keep quiet, I don't that particularly strengthens the argument in favour of enforcing NDAs, particularly given the unequal relative power and financial relationships of the various parties.

Last post of the 24 hours, sat in front of the wood burner. I would have sone red wine but had too many beers at lunchtime... I'm with Johnboysaint, leaving the comfort of home to watch Saints at the moment is a difficult proposition. My team's game this afternoon was called off, hence adjourning to the pub, but I wouldn't be as disappointed with a Saints postponement unless I'd already travelled.

I don't care what some of you think about some people's reaction and whether you (or myself for that matter) personally think it over the top , but perhaps you could consider it best not to express your opinion at this moment. That way people won't have their opinions of you confirmed. No names, no pack drill.

It was mooted that he might have been. My girlfriend is learning to fly helicopters and I've been up with her and an instructor. A serious mechanical failure at take-off with a substantial load of fuel (not just what you need for doing local circuits) and you have no chance. Pre-flight checks are thorough and all the instruments have to be showing the correct readings before lift, so who knows what happened here. There won't be any long term change to helicopter flying as a result of this, I wouldn't think, although I wouldn't be surprised if they bring in a temporary ban on landing at enclosed stadia. We'll have to wait for the AAIB report and in the meantime agree that Tuesday is too soon for our game against them.

I'm hoping Maidenhead United beat Cheltenham so that they play Pompey in the FA cup. I saw the Magpies play Aveley in the cup many years ago and that was one great atmosphere. The game features in Nick Hornby's Fever Pitch. If there weren't so many Pompey supporters I'd consider wandering down to my local H&W. But I'll still be there this Saturday and the cynical discussions about the cynical set up of football with my friends will continue.

Can I be first in the queue, or do I just try and get one of their neutral area ones?
-
If Portsmouth go up will they pass safety requirements for the Championship (or even local council?).
-
Can I add Austin to my list?
-
Quite! I'm glad the club aren't managed by some of the drips on here.

Such as? How long would _they_ get? I don't necessarily think Hughes has all the answers, but any manager given Long and Carillo (we still own him..!) as a major part of his strike force must be given some leeway. One does get concerned when a player like Hoedt states they don't do enough defensive training and drills like he did at Lazio, but I'm not sure he's the most reliable witness and sounds a bit like passing the buck. Perhaps he should speak to the manager and not the press? At least we are seeing more out of Redmond, and about time for a goal from him. I wish Pellegrino had gone earlier, but I don't think getting in to a cycle of replacing managers so quickly is going to encourage any decent ones to come, or only the most conceited who are after the extra money we'll have to pay.

Cripes, I'm agreeing with CB Fry! "Economy in great shape." I'm not coming to ashnats for investment advice; I'd be left with stranded assets in FFs, whilst all around me are divesting. There are times when it's good to have only 3 posts a day, otherwise I'd be tempted to waste time arguing with posters whose views on any subject you can invariably predict will be only marginally less extreme than Attila the Hun's.

You just have. perhaps you got confused with Portsmouth Online and Mero thinks you're a traitor for having a sense of humour?
-
Just seen it. Say what you like about professionals but they can certainly kick a ball higher and wider than any Sunday morning pub team..

That's why I don't come on here until about Tuesday, as seeing the game live is bad enough. Then you just know the same old names will be dishing up the same points, smugly satisfied about how humorous they are and scoring points off each other. At least I normally get to play on a Sunday, from the bench, and a little bit keeps me happy. So at least I do look forward to weekends, have a quiet Saturday night, pack my kit, clean my boots, check whether the ground has a defibrillator..
-
I'd agree with this and your point about Romeu. I've not commented or even been on the board since suffering on Sunday, and was thinking that Hughes really hasn't got much to work with when to change the game he has Long and Romeu to bring on. Chelsea had pace and power in pretty well every position as well as game changers like Hazard. We just don't, and if we are to buy I'd at least trust Hughes more than MP and our January purchase of Carillo.

The difference between the two is that we'd all have a cynical universal football fan's laugh and a pint with Mackrill..

I see Charlie Wayman has not only missed the point entirely, (I'm not one of the ones feeling sorry for myself) but he has responded with one of his usual churlish posts, so no surprise there. Apologies if my discursive style offends him, but it wasn't deliberate, unlike the majority of his posts..

Hurrah, I've managed to avoid this board until today. Had an unexpectedly boozy Saturday afternoon, checked my phone only once. Then Sunday was playing the game and Monday I was again busy. I did watch the highlights yesterday on the OS - what depressing defending in the box - but I didn't see any reason to depress myself further by coming on here. So, anything different from the usual meltdown threads? Still the same people welcoming the opportunity to be depressed and saying "I told you so" with some weird satisfaction? As I've only 3 posts can I also ask here whether our game tonight is on the box, and can Yoshida play, pretty please?
