  1. Ooh, the other member of the boy's tag team has arrived. I'll have to guess the content, but I suspect it won't be about Southampton Women's football team. I might be so bold as to guess he's having a go at me in some way.
  2. Yes, Hypo, hence my genuine interest in the subject and posting on the thread. Your contribution is just your usual right wing bullying negativity and has absolutely no connection with this thread. We all know you're a deeply unpleasant individual so there's no need to confirm it at every opportunity.
  3. I recall Hurlock did the player questionnaire in one Saint's programme. Greatest dislike was "a dodgy pint". He appears to have been somewhat experienced in the drinking stakes.
  4. Blimey, that's some commitment. Thanks for your insight. When I retired early at 50 I trained twice a week for a team, but it was a bit late by then!
  5. Thanks for post Monk. Yep, I play in a local grassroots league and thank goodness for revolving subs (!). There are plenty of players who know what they are doing, but to be polite, quite a number who don't..
  6. Nepotism has certainly always been around in all walks of life but there's a difference between giving somebody a leg up or first chance compared with long term support for incompetence, as in AP's case.
  7. Interesting article in The Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2019/feb/17/everythings-a-little-too-cosy-in-footballs-game-of-family-fortunes Relevance to Saints? Well, not mentioned in the article was the two years that Anthony Pulis spent at our club. Who can possibly forget him?
  8. I popped in to the pub on the way back from the shops this morning, saw that they were 2-0 up and had a goal disallowed as I looked, so I didn't think there were any laughs to be had from staying in a Pompey supporting pub and having a pint. Oh me of little faith..
  9. Yep, as mentioned Pepipoo and the dedicated MSE forum are very useful and will help with any appeal, but read their information first. If you ever get caught by ANPR cameras there is also a question of privacy involved; how long they keep the information, how they justify getting it from the DVLA, and even charging when you don't actually end up parking, as you are allowed a grace period to get out your magnifying glass, step ladder and shears so that you can read their signage. Remember that contract law applies in these cases and it's a charge not a fine. I was once fined in a Soton CC car park as I thought it was free after a certain time of night but appealed to the council, sent a cheque for the actual charge and I was let off. As the car park was one full in the day with office trade and virtually empty I'd have thought they'd want to encourage business as there was little or no marginal cost in providing the parking space free. I normally rail in for matches but as it's Southern not always...
  10. Well, you can self-identify as a dripping tap if you want. Others above have replied in more detail, but given he was playing for various reasons outlined I think comments should relate to his game, not whether he should have been playing in the first place.
  11. Thanks for er.. verbalizing exactly what I was thinking. No point commenting further.
  12. It's not criticism per se but how it's couched. So when Shurlock, for example, says his fitness was lacking a bit I take it seriously as he is a poster with a useful contribution to make. Also there is no hint of eternal damnation like some on here, but would seem to be an area of improvement. It's constructive criticism, in other words. Others here I just finished incredibly tiresome with their attitudes, no names no pack drill, but they're like dripping taps.
  13. I don't. Haven't seen the game yet, but it seems most people are saying, and I paraphrase, reasonable performance for his starting debut and looking forward to improvement. I wonder if Ralph kept him on when he was tiring to show him exactly what it was like, and to underline the need for fitness improvements.
  14. Targets like Carillo, I take it.
  15. I'm going for a siesta. Hopefully there'll be good news when I get back. If the news is good I might have to start a new tradition of sleeping through matches. Laters..
  16. Cheers for the detail. From here I can retain my optimism and think that at least he was in a good position.
  17. I'm out in Italy relying on this thread. Could you be a bit more descriptive?!!
  18. Well done Wimbledon!
  19. I'm not sure it would be wise for Charlie to go to a place with a kebab shop on every corner..
  20. I was thinking this some way up the thread. In my very limited experience of less experienced pilots like Ibbotson they don't like to turn down opportunities to get more hours in. If he was put under pressure by Mackay then I presume the AAIB have the power to obtain telephone records?
  21. Interesting read, I agree. This struck home: "And, of course, even as a young boy, he would be enlisted to help clear up the dog **** from the park so that his dad’s team could safely take to the pitch." Fortunately we were away last week and could get the home side to deal with the issue..
  22. Still the same with helicopters from what I learnt when I accompanied my GF on a training flight to the IOW. She's having a lesson tomorrow morning from Hurn and in this weather I'm a bit worried about icing: Schweitzers aren't particularly powerful. These days with larger commercial aircraft there's a bit more margin for error. When my dad started at Eastleigh and was doing the load sheets for Dragon Rapides he would note that Jersey Senator Le Mesurier was on the passenger list and ask to be sent one of the lighter captains and restrict crew baggage, please..
  23. This thread is chilling. I must admit I thought of icing earlier but I'm not a pilot - they wouldn't let me join Southampton Uni UAS back in the day and never had the money since.. But like in sailing or skiing the precautionary principle always holds good and saying NO to a dodgy situation is a very important instinct. I think it was my dad who told me that there were "old pilots, bold pilots but no old, bold pilots". He was on duty as a BEA D.O. at Manchester Airport at the time of the Munich air disaster: another aircraft that should never have tried to leave the ground after the first attempt.
  24. Ah yes, the volcano ash, wasn't it? I've never been a passenger in a light aircraft (DC-3 the smallest), but last summer went across to the IOW in a helicopter from Bournemouth on a beautiful summer's day. The procedure is to cross at the shortest distance so that in the event of engine failure you can auto-rotate to land, although there were scores of light craft around too. But a fixed wing aircraft around Jersey and its tides and in poor visibility...
  25. I saw some of the first half (not their goal) on a low quality twitter feed. I must say Sims looked the only one up to speed, and Leeds were far quicker and more physical and, I'd say, the better team. Good to see Sims scoring. From what little I saw we've seen all the lads likely to play for the first team under RH apart from Sims himself.
