Well let's see. His delivery is poor. He can't tackle. He never heads the ball. His passing is pretty inconsequential. He disappears from games. And he doesn't link the defence and attack sufficiently. He is also - as I keep saying - far too lightweight to progress very far. Simply linking him with Oakley doesn't work. Personally I was a fan of Oakley, but there's no denying that he went missing on occasion too. Was better than Surman, in my view, though. PS a lot of not very good players play for England U21.

Unfortunately Surman is a tippy tappy player who looks like he plays in his slippers and is frailer and easier to shove off the ball than my two year old. Apart from that, yes, he is really suited to life as a footballer. Not. £2m is astonishing business.
