Saints V Millwall FA Cup Replay Match Thread!
Jack replied to SOTONS EAST SIDE's topic in The Saints
Unrelated, but, good report just came in from St Andrews. Pompey giving Brum a good game, had the better chances. And pompey have only taken 488 fans up there. Best fans in the land. Lolz -
It happens to the best of teams Alps. Look at what Blackburn did at Old Trafford a few weeks ago. Look at Man City at Everton. Barcelona have been dropping points and failing to score recently. No matter how good a side is, they will have some unlikely defeats over a season. We're nearly back to full strength, and we've strengthened. With players returning and others finding some lost form, there's no reason we can't replicate our form from the first few months of the season.
-
Also, Bristol City had just got a new manager in and they were in the middle of a mini revival. We had an off day at home against them. Away at Leicester, we were unlucky. Their 3rd goal should never have counted for foul on Lambert, and we found their keeper in unbelievable form. We absolutely battered them in the 2nd half
-
Watch us get on a good run now and pick up at least 7 points from the next 3 games. On paper, 2 points from 2 games isn't that great, but I think there's plenty to take out of the performances. We were unlucky not to beat Cardiff and were all over them, and to pick up a point away from home against the league's form side, in awful conditions, is not a bad result. We didn't get enough shots off, but controlled big parts of the game. I think we're about to get on a tidy run of wins, can see no reason for us not to beat Burnley and Derby, and go to Upton Park full of confidence and give West Ham a lesson in how to play football.

If Millwall play anywhere near as bad as they did yesterday, this should be fairly straight forward. Bart Butterfield Martin Hooiveld (if fit) Fonte if not Harding Falque Hammond JWP Lallana Barnard Lee Davis, Shaw, Stephens, Cork, Reeves, Guly, Lambert

Just 1000 posts in over 6 years will tell you that my life is not wasted trying to feel important on a football forum. The reason for my reply was that there was another thread started a few minutes before this, making exactly the same point. You just sit quietly and carry on trying to feel appreciated, or even acknowledged.

Skates game vs Hull is off due to a frozen pitch. Only one in the championship so far. Mickey mouse outfit

Surely, as Lambert had just got past his man, and his next action would have been a shot at goal, he was denied an obvious goalscoring opportunity?
-
From the back of the Northam, we had a great view of the Lambert shout. We were absolutely fuming it wasn't given at the time. He had skinned his man and was pulled back. From watching the replays it looked like he went down easily, but the defender DID slow him right down, denying him a shot (goalscoring opportunity). Rules would say a pen and a red card, I just think the ref was weak and the lino gave no help. Was obviously a long way away from the other 2 shouts but knew they good shouts from the crowd reaction
-
This x2. You don't need to be a unit to be a good player. Speed and skill can often be enough. Look at Messi.
-
The pens definitely weren't as stonewall as I first thought on the night. Lambert - Looks a dead cert in real time, looked like the defender dragged him back/down when he got the wrong side. Think the ref would have given it if he was anywhere near it. See them given in the prem regularly, although from the replay it looks like he goes down too easily. Lallana trip - the most obvious of them all IMO. Was definitely a foul, I reckon it would have been given if it wasn't so close to the byline. Lallana cross - Handball, nuff said. You can't block a cross with a flailing arm like that, but they're not always spotted/given
-
Always had a dislike for Birmingham. They get **** attendances until the last few games of a promotion campaign then sell out for the last few games. They then sell out for a few games in the Prem till they lose a few, then stop going again. That's what I remember of their last promotion anyway. Also I find the brum accent very irritating. You could be the most intelligent person in the world, but still sound absolutely stupid with a Birmingham accent.
-
Can't see either putting up a serious challenge for the top 2. Leicester are too far back and Boro aren't very convincing. I think the current top 4 will battle it out for the top 2, with the rest of the top 10 for the playoffs, plus Leicester if they can keep a good run going
-
This. Pretty sure we also recently beat Forest with Morgan playing. Didn't he score? Ottery, I wouldn't write someone's opinion off as ridiculous unless it was factually incorrect. To say we never win with Morgan in the side WAS a ridiculous comment
-
Ridiculous comment. He doesn't always deliver, and wasn't on his game yesterday, but he is quality when he's on it. Agree that in some games we need Hammond in there to do the dirty job, but more often than not Morgan adds that quality passing a good side needs
-
I'm confident, despite Birmingham's good run. Should be an open game, and that suits us. Lads should be hungry for 3 points having come so close last night. Time to put this inconsistent run behind us and pick up some much needed wins
-
Looks lively, decent first touch, decent pace. And we've managed a decent song for him already. Think he'll be important for us this season
-
Lambert for me. Absolutely terrorised their defence. Very good performances from Lallana, Punch, and Fonte. Morgan's radar was seriously off today. Too many attempts at the 50 yard diagonal, most went for throw ins or straight to Cardiff players. Needs to play the easy pass more if unsure.
-
Lee. Tonight. Overhead kick from the edge of the box following a half-clearance after a poor Danny Fox corner.
-
Ok, so embarrassing was obviously too strong. Disappointing then. This is our first season back in the Championship and we're on for back-to-back promotions. I think it's a shame that our support isn't slightly more enthusiastic about that. Would you be happy if we got to the prem, started with a few sell-outs, then say we lost 2-0 at home to Bolton in front of 24k and saw the side booed off at HT and FT? You will say that's irrelevant, but I think it's about people forgetting exactly where we just came from.
-
21014 for a fixture: - at home in the Championship having just been promoted - with the chance to return to the TOP of the championship - against one of the pre season promotion favourites - having been averaging over 25k at home this season Poor IMO. And people on here have a pop at other clubs who can't fill their grounds, and say we are a premier league club, with premier league facilities, stadium, and fan base. Yes, 11k+ empty seats is embarrassing in my opinion
-
Yep, people need to sort themselves out and get down there. Monday was an embarrassment.
